Chapter 852

Jackson's voice had a pleading tone, like a big dog begging for attention.

Lillian's eyes softened, and she smiled gently as she cupped Jackson's handsome face.

"Love you? Of course, I love you."

Jackson froze, feeling like his blood had turned to ice for a moment before it began to rush wildly, pounding in his chest. His heart beat so fiercely it felt like it might burst out, showing her just how much her words meant to him.

His eyes burned with intensity, and he swallowed hard before speaking.

"Say it again. I think I might have imagined it."

Lillian had no intention of repeating herself. She leaned in close to Jackson's ear and whispered, her eyes twinkling with mischief.

"Then you did imagine it."

Jackson lifted his head in protest. "Come on, say it again, quick!"

"No way. If I say it too much, it won't be special anymore."

Sweet words were like candy; you couldn't eat them all at once. You had to savor them one by one.

With that, Lillian turned over. Her body was still weak and tired.

Jackson wrapped his arms around her from behind, pulling her close. His voice was husky as he whispered in her ear.

"Lillian, I love you too."

Lillian felt a shiver run from her ear to her heart. She began to understand why Jackson had insisted she repeat herself.

She felt like she was in a dream, like she had imagined it.

She thought that even if he said it a hundred times a day, she would never get tired of hearing it. Each time would feel like the first.

Her emotions surged as she listened to Jackson's breathing and felt the warmth of his chest. Her eyes grew moist.

After a long while, she spoke softly.

"Jackson, you have no idea how long I've waited to hear those words, how hard it was to wait."

Her voice caught, and she exhaled gently before continuing.

"I love you. I've only ever loved you for so many years. Why did it take you so long to say it?"

Her voice trembled slightly, more like a playful complaint than anger.

But as her words fell, Jackson didn't respond.

Lillian turned over gently and saw that Jackson was already asleep, his breathing even.

His handsome face looked peaceful and relaxed in sleep, free of all tension. Even so, he looked tired.

His long, thick eyelashes cast shadows over his high cheekbones, making the dark circles under his eyes more pronounced.

He must have stayed by her side, waiting for her to wake up, without sleeping for days.

Lillian's heart ached. She brushed the hair from his forehead and snuggled closer into his arms, closing her eyes.

She quickly fell asleep.

At the police station.

Anouk was on the verge of losing it. She had been locked in the interrogation room for nearly twenty-four hours, questioned by several officers in turn.

They wouldn't let her sleep, bombarding her with the same questions over and over.

Anouk insisted she had done nothing wrong, but the police refused to let her go.

"I swear, I never met Mary. She's my biological mother, but we have no relationship. How could I have ordered her to kill anyone? I didn't do it."

She had been repeating her innocence for hours, but the police ignored her, pressing on.

"Anouk, your mother has already confessed. She said you told her to do it and that you contacted her first."

"Anouk, think carefully. The car is registered in your name, and you brought Ms. Kelly to Hilltop Mansion. You can't deny your involvement. If you don't come clean, and Mary gives us more details, you won't be able to escape being the mastermind. No one will be able to help you then."

Hearing that Mary had confessed, Anouk swallowed hard, her hands clenching on her knees.

Her face went pale as she spoke.

"I didn't hurt Lillian. I wouldn't gain anything from it. I've already been disowned by the Kelly family."

Anouk's mind raced with panic.

She and Mary had no real bond, only mutual interests.

If Mary had turned on her, she was in trouble.

But she believed that if the police had solid evidence, they wouldn't waste time questioning her.

Given Jackson's influence in Miracalia, if they had any proof, she wouldn't be sitting here.

Anouk's eyes reddened with worry.

"Lillian, has she woken up? She has to wake up."

Seeing her refusal to confess, the officer's voice turned cold.

"Anouk, if something happens to Lillian, Mr. Kelly will fall ill. The Kelly family could fall into chaos. As Kenneth's adopted daughter, you stand to benefit. If Kenneth takes over, you'll be the Kelly family's heiress again. Even if Mr. Kelly survives, you've been with them for over twenty years. Without Lillian, they might accept you back. You have plenty of motives."

Anouk felt the officer's sharp gaze pierce through her.

But she couldn't admit to anything.

If she held out for twenty-four hours, they would have to release her without evidence.

"I didn't do it. These are just your assumptions. Why do you think I'm so evil? The Kelly family raised me for over twenty years. I could never harm Grandpa. Even though I've been disowned, they'll always be my family."

The officer fell silent, and Anouk sighed in relief.

Just as she thought they had no more tricks, the female officer's eyes gleamed with a cold smile.

"Anouk, Jim's Noodle House is behind Blue Rain Beauty Salon. You know it well, don't you?"

Anouk's face paled, her fingers digging into her knees until they bled.

The officer pressed on.

"Isn't that where you met Mary to plan everything? Have you forgotten so soon?"

Anouk quickly denied it. "I don't know any Jim's Noodle House. I go to the salon often, but I've never been to the noodle house. I swear."
