Chapter 465 Generous?
Lillian changed the topic. "Miss Price said the Price family wants to keep Wendy's baby, and you've already handed Wendy over to them. You're not planning to send her to the police, right?"
Jackson turned, took Lillian's hands, and brought her closer.
"Star was abandoned in the mountains and taken in by a villager. That villager had a son with an intellectual disability, five years younger than Star. He locked her up, planning to marry her off to his son.
"Star had a high fever and forgot many things. She was out of it and couldn't contact her family.
"Her memory came back in bits and pieces later. Last year, she tried to escape but got caught and almost beaten to death. She's got hidden injuries, and the medical report says she might not be able to have kids."
Lillian felt heartbroken hearing this.
She hadn't expected Star's life to be so rough.
She thought, 'No wonder Star cried so much in the café, and Jackson made me apologize.
'Even though Star is found, Jackson probably feels even more guilty.'
"Lillian, I didn't hand Wendy over to the Price family. She's being guarded. She can't go to the police now, but it's like she's in prison.
"I promise you that she won't bother you again. When she gives birth, she'll face the consequences."
Jackson held Lillian's hand, looking a bit nervous.
Lillian took a deep breath. "You've already decided. I can't interfere, so fine."
She looked calm, not angry.
But he always broke his promise to her. How could she not be affected?
Jackson stood up, wrapped his arm around her waist, and said, "I know you're upset. There's a jewelry auction in a few days. I'll take you to relax, okay?"
When men felt guilty, they often tried to make up with gifts.
But sometimes, that was not what women want, and men might just be easing their own guilt.
Lillian wasn't interested. "The dance troupe's performance is next week. I have to take care of Shirley. I don't have time; forget it."
Jackson's eyes darkened. Clearly, he was displeased, but he didn't push it.
"Okay, then, after your performance."
Lillian nodded. Just then, there was a knock on the consultation room door. It was Terry with replacement clothes.
Jackson left the hospital, and Lillian went back to Shirley's ward.
She handed a bank card and two property deeds to Shirley.
"These are gifts from the Frane family to show their gratitude."
Jackson had brought Daisy to the hospital to thank Shirley today.
But he didn't expect to see Lillian and Star talking in the café.
With Daisy's personality, her visit wouldn't be sincere and would just disturb Shirley. Lillian accepted the items and refused the visit on Shirley's behalf.
Shirley looked at the bank card and property deeds, feeling like she was facing a tough test.
"Is Daisy really this generous? Lillian, should we accept this money? This doesn't seem right. By the way, how big are the houses? Which neighborhood? How much is on the card?"
Shirley covered her face.
Lillian smiled, shaking the bank card and property deeds.
"Both properties are in great locations, probably worth five million dollars. The card has three million dollars. Daisy isn't this generous. I had Jackson force her to give it. Are you sure you don't want it? Then I'll return it."
She pretended to turn around, and Shirley immediately grabbed her clothes.
"How about I touch it for a bit, and then you send it back?"
