Chapter 597

He was all set to stick around for her during the whole recovery thing after the baby, taking care of her and little Taylor.

But he didn't see it coming, everything just blew up in his face, turning all his dreams into nothing but pipe dreams.

And then, hearing her say she was down to give him another shot, only to watch that chance slip away in the cruelest way, just shattered him.

"Lilian."

He wanted to beg for one more shot. They were still young; they could have more kids down the line.

But those words got stuck in his throat, couldn't get them out.

Deep down, he knew she had already given him a ton of chances.

Time after time, bleeding and swallowing her tears, she came back to him.

He screwed up again, how could he ask for another chance?

Jackson squeezed his burning eyes shut, and right then, Lillian opened hers.

She looked at his stiff figure by the bed and croaked, "It's over between us. Let's end this on good terms."

A tear silently rolled down her cheek.

Lillian raised her hand and gently wiped it away, leaving no trace.

She said, "Jackson, please leave. Later, let's get the divorce papers, and never see each other again."

Jackson opened his eyes, his Adam's apple bobbing.

"Lilian, does it have to be this way? Is there no other chance for us?"

Lillian's lips barely moved. "Unless Taylor comes back."

Otherwise, there was no chance for them.

Jackson looked at her, his face dark and gloomy.

Lillian had already closed her eyes. After a moment, the sound of footsteps echoed, and Jackson walked out.

As Jackson closed the door to the hospital room, he heard muffled sobs inside.

The sound was so low, covered by the blanket, that it was hard to hear clearly.

He gripped the doorknob so hard it almost broke.

As he turned around, two figures rushed from the other end of the corridor—it was Shirley and Gray.

Gray had hooked Shirley up with a director for an audition for the lead role in a fantasy drama and had taken her to Celestial Bay.

Shirley had just finished the audition when she got news of Lillian's accident and bailed on the dinner with the director.

They drove back like maniacs. Gray felt so sick from the speed he puked a few times after getting out of the car.

Shirley rushed straight towards Jackson, and the bodyguards, sensing something was up, immediately stepped forward to stop her.

But Jackson spoke in a deep voice, "Let them through."

The bodyguards hesitated but stepped back, letting Shirley rush up to Jackson.

She was fuming and shouted, "Jackson, what right do you have to stand here! Where were you when Lillian had her accident? You can't even protect Lillian and Taylor, what kind of man are you!"

Shirley clenched her fist and swung it towards Jackson's face.

Gray, fearing she'd cause a scene, caught up from behind and luckily grabbed Shirley's hand.

"Are you nuts? The kid is gone, Jackson is hurting more than you, don't make it worse! Besides, it was Bob who did it, Jackson didn't see it coming!"

Gray held Shirley tightly, and Shirley struggled, cursing angrily, "What right does he have to be sad! Does he deserve to be sad? His mind is all on the Price family and Wendy's unborn kid. How could he possibly know? Just assigning a few bodyguards to Lilian, he thinks he's off the hook? Does he have an excuse? Bob caused the harm, but it wasn't even him who brought Lilian to the hospital!"
