Chapter 632
Star was gripping her hands so tight, her nails were about to snap.
"Star?" Dominic shot her a look.
Star, not wanting to cross Dominic, forced a smile at the cops and nodded.
"Lilian was freaked out. She was bawling in my arms. It was all just a big mix-up, a false alarm."
Once the cops and Jackson's crew took off, the Price family finally got some peace.
With teary eyes, Star asked, "Dad, why'd you back down? If I marry Jackson, the Frane and Price families could share the spoils. Once I get better and have a kid with Jackson..."
Dominic cut her off with a sneer, "It's not that simple. Jackson's not someone you can just control!
"When you first showed up, Jackson felt guilty. Marrying you then might've made him treat you and the Price family well.
"But you messed it all up with your so-called cleverness. Now there's bad blood between Jackson and us. Even if you force the marriage, he'll always be suspicious of the Price family. You think he doesn't suspect us in this mess? He just doesn't have proof.
"The immediate perks are clear. The land in Enchanted Grove is prime real estate and a key development area in Miracalia. If we play our cards right, the Price family could rise up and maybe even rival the Frane family!"
Star bit her lip, "So, should I just give up?"
"Of course not. Look at Lillian now. We don't need to do anything; they'll have a hard time patching things up. There's plenty of time. You just need to be patient and put in the effort. Once the Price family gains more power, being Mrs. Frane will be a given."
Dominic patted Star's shoulder. Star thought of Lillian's frail look earlier.
Thinking about how Lillian would be nothing without the Frane family, and how she herself would become the richest woman in Miracalia once the Price family got stronger, she smiled again.
In the car.
Jackson held Lillian, using a towel-wrapped ice pack to cool her swollen cheek, his eyes full of worry.
Harry, sitting in the front seat, took a call and then turned to report, "The videos online were taken care of right away, no one noticed. The witnesses at the scene have been dealt with by Terry and his team."
On the way to the Price family's, Jackson had already ordered these cleanup tasks to make sure the matter stayed buried.
Jackson nodded and wrapped the blanket around Lillian tighter.
"Turn up the heat a bit more."
He touched Lillian's cold neck and frowned as he gave the order.
Harry wiped the sweat off his face and complied without a word.
But looking at Lillian's pale, sleeping face, Harry couldn't help but ask, "Mr. Frane, are you really gonna give that land to the Price family?"
A cold glint flashed in Jackson's eyes, "The Price family's got too big for their britches. Sooner or later, I'll take back the land they grabbed today."
His stuff was never easy to take.
The car slowly rolled into the Frane Mansion.
When getting out of the car, Jackson put a hat on Lillian.
She hadn't woken up the whole time. Jackson carried Lillian into the living room, where not only Lyra but also Martin were waiting with stern faces.
Plus, there were doctors and nurses.
Seeing Jackson carrying Lillian in, Lyra stood up anxiously.
"What happened to Lillian? After these two days of care, why does she look even worse? How have you been taking care of her?"
Lyra was so mad she was about to swing her cane, but Jackson turned to shield Lillian and said, "Grandma, let me take Lillian upstairs first and have the doctor check her out. You can hit me later."
Lyra then stopped, and Martin, supporting Lyra, frowned at Jackson.
"You two are divorced. Why'd you bring her back to the Frane Mansion? She was fine in the hospital. And why'd you have your people bring your mom back from the airport and lock her up? Let her go immediately."
