Chapter 448
When the argument kicked off, Shirley saw Wendy hiding nearby.
She'd been watching Wendy and couldn't let her get away with it!
And if Daisy fell to her death, Lillian and Jackson's relationship would be doomed.
But Shirley didn't tell Lillian; she didn't want her feeling too guilty.
"I don't care about Wendy's baby; I just want you to be okay!" Lillian said sadly.
Lillian's nose tingled.
Shirley's heart tightened.
Not caring about Wendy's baby meant not caring about Jackson either.
Shirley knew she was the one hurt, but Lillian was the one really suffering.
She reached out and touched Lillian's head.
With tear-filled eyes, Lillian asked, "What are you doing?"
"I'm the one injured, so why are you crying so much?" Shirley asked.
Lillian was stunned momentarily, then laughed and sniffled.
"Yeah, but you're the one being punished for me!" Lillian said.
"What else can I do? I have to protect my friend. I can't just leave you because you're a fool, can I?" Shirley said, chuckling weakly.
"Stop joking! Get some rest," Lillian said worriedly.
Shirley had just had brain surgery and must've felt awful. The fact she could talk meant she was conscious, just like before.
Lillian felt relieved and urged her to rest.
When Lillian left the ICU, she was about to thank Barry when Jackson showed up with a plainly dressed middle-aged woman.
"This is Vesper. The doctor said Ms. James can be moved to a regular ward tomorrow. Vesper will take care of her," Jackson said, pointing to the woman.
Barry said, "The hospital has reliable, professional caregivers who know brain care. It's better to have pros handle it; regular servants might not cut it."
Lillian's eyes lit up. "Barry, can you recommend one?"
Before Barry could speak, Jackson glanced at Vesper, who pulled out a bunch of certificates.
"Mrs. Frane, I'm a professional too. These are my certificates; you can check them out. I can even tell jokes if Ms. James wants!"
Lillian was silent.
Where did Jackson find such a gem?
Not giving her a chance to refuse, Jackson wrapped his arm around her waist and said to Barry, "Being a doctor is tough these days, with so many worries. That's why young doctors' sudden death rates are up.
"Honey, look at Dr. Hall's eyes; they're bloodshot. Let's not trouble him more and let him rest."
Jackson's hand on her made Lillian stiffen.
But Barry had helped a lot and hadn't rested. Lillian didn't want to trouble him more, so she smiled and said, "Barry, you should go rest."
Jackson's lips hadn't even curled up before Lillian added, "I'll invite you to dinner another day to thank you."
"Alright, I'll wait for your call," Barry replied.
He then smiled warmly and nodded at Jackson before leaving.
As Barry disappeared, Lillian pushed Jackson's hand away and sneered, "Mr. Frane, your mocking skills have improved. And stop calling me 'honey'; I don't want to hear it!"
She could clearly hear his mockery of Barry earlier.
Jackson felt a lump in his throat. In the past, whenever he called her 'honey,' she'd blush and look shy.
But now, her face only showed cold disdain.
