Chapter 51 A Multitude of Grievances

With a resounding slap, Lilian was jolted from her thoughts. The sharp sting in her cheek and the ringing in her ears took a moment to register. As she regained her senses, her eyes hardened, fixing on the figure before her. It was Grace.

Before Grace could strike again, York swiftly intervened, his hands firmly restraining her. "What are you doing? Speak properly," he admonished, his voice strained. He then turned his attention to Lilian, concern etched on his face. "Lilian, are you okay? Your mom... Auntie is just overly anxious because of Wendy's injury. Don't mind her."

Lilian's face throbbed with pain, her hands clenched tightly at her sides. "I'm slapped without cause, and yet I'm not allowed to defend myself. What kind of twisted logic is this?"

Grace's eyes blazed with fury. "Are you still arguing back? Do you dare deny that you instigated Jeffery to harm Wendy's hand!? It was you who slapped Wendy last time, leaving her bruised. How could you be so cruel!" Her voice was filled with rage, her gaze threatening another slap.

York's brow furrowed in concern. "Lilian, you were once a kind and generous child. This isn't like you. Your aunt and I never taught you to behave this way." His face was a mask of disappointment and confusion.

Lilian felt wronged, yet she was the one being accused of not apologizing. Her eyes were icy, filled with contempt. "Yes, you raised me until I was six years old, but you raised your daughter, not me, Lilian. If we follow your logic, shouldn't I also accuse you of abandonment? After all, when I turned six, you willingly sent me to the Young family, knowing fully well what kind of person Bob was. The bond of raising me ceased to exist when you chose your biological daughter and abandoned me. You can't ask anything of me anymore!"

Grace was left speechless, her hand raised for another strike. "You heartless person!" she spat out.

Lilian swiftly caught her hand. "Enough! You've got it all wrong. If you want to educate a child, do it with your own children. I have no relationship with you and no obligation to listen to your teachings! I'll let it slide this time, but if it happens again, I'll retaliate twice as hard!" With that, she forcefully pushed Grace away and stormed off.

Grace stood trembling, while York, looking conflicted, gently led her away from further confrontation. "Let's go check on Wendy first," he suggested, guiding Grace away.

Meanwhile, in a hospital room at the end of the corridor, Wendy's hand had been treated. Although the injury looked severe, it was only flesh and tendon damage, with no fractures.

Wendy's brow was furrowed, her sobs of pain echoing in the sterile room as she leaned against the head of the bed. "I'm not someone who cares about petty issues, but every time I come back, I get hit three out of the four times I see my sister. Why can't my sister accept me? Just because I returned to Sivan House, she was sent away. But I endured six years of suffering for my sister and also wanted to be with our parents..."

Tears streamed down Wendy's face as she nestled into Jackson's embrace, seeking comfort. She wished he would wipe away her tears, maybe even pat her head…
