Chapter 428
On the wedding day, the weather was awful.
Dark clouds hung low in the sky, casting a gloomy shadow over everything.
The wedding was set to take place at a fancy hotel owned by the Frane Group.
Lillian was in the makeup room, all done up, but Jackson was still a no-show.
"Here, have some water. Don't stress; I'm here with you," Shirley said, handing Lillian a cup of warm water. Shirley, dressed in a light pink bridesmaid dress, tried to offer some comfort.
Lillian took the cup but didn't drink from it. She just smiled and said, "I'm fine."
Lillian could tell Shirley was more nervous than she was. She was ready for whatever came next.
Just then, the lounge door opened.
Lillian looked up and smiled, standing up. "Mrs. Gemma Frane, Kevin, you're here."
Kevin looked sharp in a white suit with a plaid tie. His hair was perfectly styled, making him stand out.
Next to him was an elegant middle-aged woman in a long purple dress. It was Gemma, Kevin's mom.
"Lillian, congrats to you and Jackson. I have a special gift for you," Gemma said warmly, handing Lillian a velvet jewelry box.
"Thank you, Mrs. Gemma Frane. Can I open it?" Lillian asked, smiling.
"Of course."
Inside the jewelry box was a stunning ruby necklace, intricately designed with diamonds and rubies.
"Mrs. Gemma Frane, this is too much," Lillian said, a bit overwhelmed, trying to close the box. Kevin stopped her.
"Lillian, you know I'm not married, so Mom hasn't had a chance to give away her jewelry. Don't be so formal," Kevin said.
Gemma held Lillian's hand and said gently, "I don't have a daughter, so I see you as one. Please accept it."
Lillian felt touched. "Alright, Mrs. Gemma Frane, could you help me put it on?"
Gemma was happy to help. The necklace looked amazing on Lillian. Her wedding dress had a long-sleeved square neckline, showing off her graceful neck and collarbone. The rubies hung perfectly, making her look stunning.
"It's beautiful. Jackson is lucky to marry Lillian," Gemma said, admiring her.
Lillian smiled, but her joy was quickly interrupted by an unwelcome voice.
"Mrs. Gemma Frane, don't say that. Is Jackson really stepping up by marrying Lillian? If you think she's so great, why didn't you push for her to marry Kevin?" Daisy and Jenny walked in, Daisy's tone as overbearing as ever.
Lyra had always wanted Lillian to marry Kevin, and Gemma had always liked Lillian as well.
