Chapter 929
Gray was far from satisfied with Shirley's reaction, but he nodded with a stern expression.
"Of course I'm serious. Why else would I be here?"
Did she think he had nothing better to do than orchestrate a chance meeting at the hospital?
Shirley scrutinized Gray's face, searching for any hint of insincerity. Seeing the earnestness in his eyes and the tension in his brows, she finally believed he genuinely wanted to get back together, rather than just messing with her or seeking revenge.
But his sincerity didn't bring her any joy. Instead, a wave of bitterness washed over her. If only Gray had taken her seriously from the start, establishing a committed relationship with the intention of marriage, she would have been overjoyed.
Now, after their breakup and her gradual detachment from the relationship, his sudden desire to reconcile left her unwilling to turn back.
Shirley looked at Gray, her voice calming down. "Let go of me first. Let's talk."
Gray, thinking she was softening, smirked slightly and released her. In their struggle, the zipper of Shirley's sports jacket had come undone, revealing her shoulder, collarbone, and a significant portion of her chest, covered only by a small camisole.
Shirley, petite with a youthful face but a well-proportioned and curvy figure, caught Gray's attention. His gaze lingered on her exposed skin, and memories of their past flashed vividly in his mind.
His breathing grew heavier, and his eyes darkened with desire. Shirley, feeling his intense stare, looked up to see him gazing at her like a starving wolf. Despite her calm demeanor, his look made her blush.
"Where are you looking? I haven't agreed to get back together with you," she snapped, quickly standing up and zipping her jacket all the way to her chin.
Gray didn't say anything, but he didn't hide his physical reaction either. He spread his long legs wider and casually tossed his own jacket aside, leaning back in his seat with a lazy, relaxed posture.
Shirley glanced at him and felt a surge of anger. He was now wearing a simple white tank top that accentuated his muscular chest and defined abs, paired with loose sweatpants that did little to hide his physique.
She quickly turned her gaze to the window, her mind recalling a comment about how gray sweatpants could make a man look more endowed. Her thoughts became jumbled, unable to understand Gray's sudden behavior.
The car fell into a tense silence until Shirley's phone rang, startling her. She looked down to see it was a video call from Tommy, the second male lead in her current project. Tommy, who had a strong background and had quickly risen to fame, had become a good friend after she helped him out of a tight spot with some overzealous fans.
After that incident, Tommy often sought out Shirley on set to rehearse lines, play games, and discuss martial arts moves.
Being young and with Shirley's carefree personality, the two quickly became good friends.
Tommy and Kaida are classmates, and Kaida's photos with Gray were seen by Shirley when she once looked through Tommy's phone.
That was why Shirley just asked Tommy for Kaida's contact information.
Shirley hesitated, but before she could reach for her phone, Gray had already picked it up and answered the call, pulling her close to appear on the screen together.
Shirley was still in shock, questioning him about why he answered her call without permission.
Gray then held up the phone, casually draping his arm over her shoulder, and they both appeared together in a close pose on the screen.

Gray held up the phone, casually draping his arm over her shoulder, and they both appeared together in a close pose on the screen.
Tommy, with his handsome face breaking into a smile, said, "Why haven't you been replying to me? Is it that..."
Before he could finish, he saw Shirley appearing on the screen with Gray.
Shirley was nestled in Gray's embrace, their posture looking incredibly intimate, as if they were a close couple.
Especially since Gray was only wearing a tank top, his body radiating tension, while Shirley's hair was tousled.
The subtle atmosphere of flirtation between them was palpable, even through the screen.
Tommy's smile instantly froze, and a silence fell on both sides of the phone.
It was only when Shirley sensed something was off that she instinctively started to explain to Tommy, "Don't get the wrong idea. Gray and I..."
Shirley clearly intended to set the record straight; her urgency to explain to another man made Gray tighten his grip on her shoulder.
However, he interrupted her attempt to clarify, saying, "Since you've caught us, Tommy, you have to keep it a secret for us. We're not planning to go public yet."
Shirley turned to Gray, incredulous. What nonsense was he talking about? It was as if he was telling everyone they had been together for a long time.
Meeting Shirley's gaze, Gray showed no sign of guilt. He was a man, and from Tommy's suddenly vanished smile, he could tell how Tommy felt about Shirley.
How dare he covet Gray's woman?
Not kissing that Shirley right there was already showing leniency.
Tommy, being a hot-headed kid, would quickly move on after a setback.
But Tommy was clearly more complicated than Gray thought. Although he showed a hint of shock and disappointment, he quickly noticed that Shirley's expression was off.
He focused solely on Shirley, wanting her to tell him directly.
"A few days ago, I asked Shirley, and she clearly said she was single."
Gray watched Tommy's eyes on the screen, which were now red and filled with grievance.
Shirley looked at the screen, panic flashing across her face as she shook her head repeatedly, saying, "Don't listen to him…"
Gray wouldn't give Shirley a chance to explain. He hung up the video call before she could finish a complete sentence.
Shirley was truly furious, angrily grabbing her phone back, saying, "Gray, can you show some restraint? What nonsense are you saying to others?!"
Gray raised the hand holding the phone, preventing her from taking it back, his fingers still editing the screen.
With a calm expression, he said, "How am I not showing restraint? You just agreed to get back together with me. We're now in relationship. Are you planning to be wishy-washy? Even if you are, you shouldn't be looking for some inexperienced kid like Tommy. Don't you fear your fans calling you shameless?"
Shirley was already quite upset. She hadn't agreed to get back together with him at all.
Just moments before the video call rang, she had been thinking about having a proper conversation about their breakup—she had moved on and wouldn't look back.
Yet now he unilaterally assumed she had agreed to him.
And what did he mean by "shameless"?
Even though she was three or four years older than Tommy, she was still under twenty-five—she was young!
Shirley felt her vision darkening from anger. She coldly snatched her phone back.
Then she realized that Gray had sent Tommy a message in her place.
[We've been together for about six months.]
Not only that, but he had also removed himself from her blacklist and set himself as a special contact, pinning it to the top.
Shirley chuckled darkly, her fingers moving to re-block him.
Gray crossed his arms and said lazily, "If you block me again, don't expect to get out of my car today. Soren has a bad temper; if tomorrow's shoot is delayed, don't blame me."
Hearing his blatant threat, Shirley felt like smashing her phone against Gray's head.
But she knew that this jerk would actually do it.
She wasn't afraid of him taking her away, but she genuinely feared delaying the crew's progress.
As Gray had said, Soren was a very strict director. It didn't matter if she was a rising star in the entertainment industry; even big-name celebrities behaved themselves on Soren's set.
She had only taken a day off; if she couldn't return to the crew smoothly tomorrow, Soren might just kick her out.
Shirley's fingers were turning white from gripping her phone, but in the end, she did nothing, releasing her hold and saying coldly, "Take me to the airport immediately!"
Seeing her put away her phone and not argue with him, Gray obliged, tapping the dashboard and ordering, "To the airport."
The car quickly headed towards the airport, while Shirley turned to look out the window, unwilling to engage with Gray.
Gray felt frustrated seeing her upset. But after everything he had been through recently, he realized he didn't want to break up.
Especially after seeing Jackson and Lillian so sweet together in the hospital, now with their son back, their family was complete and enviable.
He even fantasized about marrying Shirley and having kids with her. It was terrifying; he had always been against marriage, yet now he found the thought oddly appealing, feeling a faint hope in his heart.
Thinking about this, Gray spoke up first, "Didn't you say we needed to talk? What do you want to say? I'm listening."
Shirley curled her lips in sarcasm. After his threats and sending messages without her permission, how could she talk to him?
She remained cold and indifferent, simply closing her eyes.
Seeing her not even wanting to look at him, Gray furrowed his brows, a hint of irritation flashing in his eyes.
He reached out and lifted Shirley into his lap. When she opened her eyes, she found herself sitting on him.
She glared at him, meeting his somewhat helpless gaze. Gray said, "Finally willing to look at me? Shirley, I don't agree to break up; you can't get rid of me!"
Shirley laughed coldly, "Gray, this isn't just a day or two; we've been broken up for over two months. You've already got someone new, and now you're suddenly clinging to me—what's so interesting about that?"
She truly didn't understand.
Gray frowned, "I've told you, I don't have anyone new."
"Would you dare say that in front of Kaida?"
Shirley rolled her eyes, her expression mocking.
"Of course I would! Didn't you want her number? Call her now."
To her surprise, Gray insisted.
To prove his innocence, he even handed her phone back to her, indicating she should call Kaida right then.
However, sometimes the more innocent a man acts, the more he tries to cover up the truth and feels guilty.
Shirley raised an eyebrow in mockery, "I don't believe you. Even if she's not a new flame, there's bound to be some ambiguity, right? No smoke without fire. Otherwise, how could there be so many rumors? You didn't even eat ice cream with me using the same spoon; who are you trying to fool?"
Hearing her words, Gray's sharp brows suddenly relaxed, a smile appearing in his eyes.
He looked pleased, lifting her chin and studying her intently. "Are you jealous?"
Shirley wanted to roll her eyes. What was there to be jealous about? Could they not communicate normally?
Yet, recalling her own words, she realized they did sound a bit jealous.
Furrowing her brows, she was about to explain that she was merely arguing logically and it had nothing to do with jealousy when Gray suddenly said in a deep voice, "Stop the car!"
The car almost immediately came to a halt. Gray smiled at Shirley, raising an eyebrow. "Wait here."
After saying that, he set her down, opened the car door, and got out, slamming the door behind him.
Shirley was taken aback, then quickly realized this was a golden opportunity to escape.
But just as her hand reached for the door handle, she cursed under her breath.
Damn jerk! He could leave, but he took her phone and bag with him!
Without her phone and bag, she wouldn't be able to board the plane at all.
