Chapter 541

Mila took great care of everything. When she saw Lillian, she exclaimed in surprise, "Welcome back, Mrs. Frane! I was wondering why you hadn't come by recently and it was always Mr. Frane. Turns out you were pregnant and taking care of your health. That's wonderful."

Lillian walked over and took the towel from Mila's hand, who was unaware of Lillian's trip abroad.

"Has Jackson been to see Max?" Lillian asked.

Mila found her question odd. 'Aren't they a couple?' She thought Jackson came because Lillian had asked him to.

"Mr. Frane comes by once a week. He talks with the doctors and carefully inquires about Mr. Young's condition," Mila replied.

Lillian lowered her eyes and bent down to wipe Max's face. Her eyelashes fluttered at Mila's words.

Jackson was usually quite busy. Although this hospital was part of the Frane Group, Jackson was in charge of Star Group and didn't deal much with the Frane Group's businesses, which were managed by Martin.

So, he must have come specifically to visit Max.

Lillian thought about this and became slightly absent-minded while wiping Max's hands. She didn't expect to feel a light flick on her palm.

She snapped back to reality and looked down in surprise. "Max's hand just moved!"

"Mrs. Frane, recently Mr. Young has been more responsive to external stimuli. His fingers often twitch. The doctor says there's a good chance he'll wake up, so we should interact with him more and not miss the opportunity."

Mila's words filled Lillian with joy and guilt. She held Max's hand. "Max, I'm back. I haven't been able to visit you for a while. Are you mad at me?

"But I have good news for you, Max. Taylor has grown a lot and is very healthy. In just over three months, Taylor will be able to meet you.

"Max, you need to wake up soon. Don't you want to teach Taylor to call you uncle yourself?

"Max, I'm about to divorce Jackson. I'm afraid I won't be able to take good care of Taylor. Can you wake up and help me? You said you'd always have my back. Don't just lie there being lazy."

Max's hand twitched again. Lillian froze, then broke into a smile. "You heard everything, didn't you? Keep it up! You have to wake up!"

"Lillian?" A voice called from the doorway.

Lillian looked up and saw Mary. She had changed a lot since the last time they met.

The burn marks on her face were still visible. She wore a wig and no makeup, looking old and haggard.

"Lillian, where have you been? Your belly is so big now. Is it Mr. Frane's?" Mary stared incredulously at Lillian's belly.

Lillian frowned and asked, "What are you doing here?"

"Max has been more responsive lately, so I naturally want to be here for him. If he wakes up, he would want to see me first, right?" Mary responded.

"Then you stay here." Lillian didn't want to deal with Mary and got up to leave.

Mary reached out to grab her, smiling ingratiatingly. Before she could speak, Lillian said coldly. "I don't want to hear it if you're going to talk about money."

"Lillian, you can't just stand by and do nothing." Mary frowned. "You don't know what I've been through. Your uncle's company went bankrupt, and he owes a lot of money. We're being chased by debt collectors everywhere. Even the house I lived in was swindled away.

"I don't even have money for food now. Do you want me to starve to death? You're a mother now; you know how hard pregnancy is. You wouldn't want your child to treat you heartlessly in the future, would you?"

Lillian stared at Mary's pitiful face. "What, Wendy doesn't give you money every month anymore? If you want money, tell me why Wendy was sending you money every month."

Mary's eyes flickered, and she quickly let go of Lillian's hand. "Why else? Because I raised her. Now the Sivan family is bankrupt too, and Wendy has been missing for a long time. Lillian, I'm really starving. I don't need much, just give me a hundred thousand dollars, no, fifty thousand dollars."

Lillian smirked and said, "I may be heartless, but you can't even tell the truth. Clearly, you haven't hit rock bottom yet."

She walked away. Mary wanted to follow, but remembering the excruciating pain from the last time, she gritted her teeth and stopped.

Outside the ward, Lillian called Mila over and whispered, "I put a recording pen under Max's pillow. When Mary leaves, take it out. Next time she comes, make sure to record her."
