Chapter 25 All About the Money

Jackson gazed at Lillian with tender eyes, his actions gentle, his words almost whispered like a lover's. It was everything Lillian had ever dreamed of.

But this happiness felt as fleeting as bubbles that couldn't be grasped.

She bit her lip, afraid to speak, fearing that only endless despair awaited her.

Lyra, seeing this, patted Jackson on the back. "It's all your fault! You're never home, neglecting Lillian. You have to promise to come home every day from now on."

Lillian intertwined her fingers anxiously, finally lifting her head to look at Jackson again. ‘Will he agree?’ she thought.

Jackson smiled slightly. "I'll do as you say."

Lyra nodded in satisfaction, then looked at Lillian. "What about you, Lillian?"

Jackson's gaze also shifted to Lillian's face.

Lillian felt a pang in her heart and nose, but she couldn't bring herself to refuse. Her eyes glistened with tears as she nodded gently. "Okay."

Lyra smiled happily, intertwining Lillian's hand with Jackson's. "Great, then I can rest assured and look forward to hugging great-grandchildren."

Exiting Lyra's room, with servants bustling about, Lillian wanted to pull her hand away from Jackson's grasp. But he didn't let go, and she looked up at him.

"Tonight, stay at here. Tomorrow, I'll help you move your things back to the Peace Mansion," Jackson said.

Since Lillian had agreed to Lyra, she decided to give it another try. She nodded, "Okay."

Lillian seemed to revert to the obedient girl she once was, and Jackson, with deep eyes, squeezed her hand before letting go.

His gaze made Lillian's heart race, and she said, "I'll go check on the kitchen."

"Go ahead," Jackson said.

Lillian hurried into the kitchen, only coming out when dinner was ready. At that time, Jackson and Martin were upstairs in the study, and Lyra asked her to go fetch them.

Standing at the study door, Lillian raised her hand to knock but noticed it wasn't fully closed. She could hear Martin's stern voice. "Star Group's three biggest projects of the year are about to launch. Your personal image is tied to the group's image, and this is not the time for stock market turmoil! You can treat Wendy however you want in private, but divorce is not a good idea right now. After this period passes, you can do as you please."

"I have it under control; please, don't worry," Jackson replied in an indifferent tone.

Lillian stood there, stunned. Jackson didn't explain about Wendy, nor did he deny Martin's words. Was this the reason he refused to divorce? Was everything he did just for the sake of the group's interests? All he cared about was money!

Lillian felt weak in the knees and turned to leave. In just half an hour, her heart shattered, and her last hope crushed by reality. Leaning against the wall, she gasped for breath, taking a while to compose herself before heading downstairs, only to find herself standing outside Kevin's room.

Kevin was one of the five children of the Frane family. Four years ago, he had insisted on becoming a professional race car driver, which the Frane family disapproved of, leading him to leave the country and never return.

The room had been locked all this time, but now the door was slightly ajar.

Perplexed, Lillian pushed the door open and stepped inside, only to be interrupted by a call from Barry. "Lillian, good news! Your resume has been approved, and Alice will personally interview you next month during her tour!"

Lillian was taken aback by the sudden good news, jumping with joy. "Really? I'm so happy!" She spun around in excitement, unaware of a dark figure standing outside, which startled her with a cry.

Lillian quickly moved aside. "I have something to attend to. I'll call you back." She hung up, turning around and bumping into a man's chest, her nose turning red.

Jackson took a step forward, causing Lillian to retreat until her back was against the wall. He raised his hand to pin her against the door, sneering coldly. "In this dark room, who are you reminiscing about?"
