Chapter 397 A Fatal Blow

Elowen shoved Wendy away, snapping, "I've gone two months without a paycheck. In the Sivan Mansion, it's finders keepers, and I only took two bags. They are second-hand and worthless. What more do you want? If you want to act like a princess, then pay me my salary now. I'll give you back this lousy bag right away. Is that what you want?"

Wendy trembled with anger as Elowen rolled her eyes and walked off with her suitcase.

Just then, Grace and York were also kicked out of the Sivan Mansion.

Wendy rushed over, grabbing York's arm, her face a mix of shock and fear. "Dad, what's going on? How did the company suddenly fail? Didn't you say that if we got the investment and filled the funding gap, we could get through the crisis and turn things around?"

Wendy thought, 'I'm still trying to find a way. How did it suddenly come to this?'

She was panicking, unable to accept the reality.

York turned to her, his face lifeless. Suddenly, rage twisted his features, and he slapped her hard.

Wendy let out a scream and staggered back, holding her face in disbelief. "Dad, why did you hit me?"

Ever since Wendy returned to the Sivan family, York and Grace had doted on her, feeling sorry for the hardships she had endured as a child.

But recently, Wendy had been blamed and scolded more than once.

York pointed at her, his chest heaving with anger. "Tell me! What did you do to anger Jackson so much that he would destroy the Sivan family like this? Oh my god. How could the Sivans produce such a disaster like you!"

Wendy's face went pale, and her expression was blank.

She realized it wasn't that Tina didn't expose her but that Jackson had taken action against the Sivan family.

It was a fatal blow.

The Sivan family was finished, and Wendy, the heiress, had become a joke.

Grace grabbed Wendy, demanding answers. "Wendy, what did you do? Why is this happening? Did you provoke Lillian again?"

Wendy's expression darkened, and she forcefully shook off Grace's hand. Her eyes were bloodshot as she glared at Grace and York. She shouted hoarsely, "What do you mean? What does it have to do with me? Didn't you say I was your biological daughter and that you would always love me the most? Why are you bringing up Lillian now? Did I provoke Lillian? Don't forget, I wasn't the only one who had a dispute with her at the restaurant a few days ago. Lillian is now Mrs. Frane. Are you regretting it? Do you think you shouldn't have brought me back? It's too late! Don't be so sure. The tables can turn. I won't be worse than Lillian. There's still a long way to go, and I won't lose!"

With that, Wendy turned and rushed out, only to find that even the car she had driven was gone. Rose stood there helplessly.

Wendy's tears finally fell uncontrollably. 'No, I won't give up! I still have a bargaining chip—the child in my belly,' she thought.

She took out her phone, her hands trembling as she dialed a number. "Lillian is already suspicious about our identities. She secretly did a paternity test with Grace! If she finds out what you did back then, do you think she'll let you off? And the Sivan family has already been bankrupted by Lillian and Jackson!"

The news of the Sivan family's bankruptcy spread quickly. Wendy had made quite a splash with Jackson when she returned to the country, becoming a minor internet celebrity.

Shirley saw the news online and gossiped with Lillian about it. "What's going on with Jackson? How could he treat Wendy like that?"

Lillian didn't tell Shirley about the amniocentesis, fearing she would worry. So she changed the subject, briefly mentioning that she had misunderstood Jackson about Star and that she would be staying at the Peace Mansion for a few days before hanging up.

Lillian stayed at the Peace Mansion for a day, but Jackson neither returned nor contacted her.

At night, as Lillian was about to sleep, there was still no word from Jackson.

Lillian had a restless night, waking up twice and having a nightmare in the early morning.

She dreamed of Jackson and Star's wedding, with Daisy holding her down and sneering. "Lillian, Star is the daughter-in-law I want. Jackson is going to marry Star, and he doesn't want the child you're carrying!"

Wendy laughed, pointing at Lillian. "Lillian, you're so pathetic!"

When Lillian woke up, her face was wet with tears.

Before she could wipe them away, she heard a man's voice behind her. "Another nightmare?"

Lillian's heart leaped with joy. 'It's Jackson. He has returned.'

She turned to Jackson, thinking about the nightmare she just had.

She realized that even though they had reconciled, she still lacked a sense of security.

Lillian touched her belly, stared at Jackson, and suddenly asked, "Jackson, why did you force me to take birth control pills before?"
