Chapter 478 Anxiety

"Jackson, hurry up. Mom and Dad are waiting."

Star smiled, reaching for Jackson's arm.

Jackson sidestepped, closed the car door himself, and nodded.

"Let's go."

Star pulled back her hand, still smiling.

"Don't laugh, but I haven't been in a place like this for ages. My childhood memories are fuzzy, and I'm really nervous. Glad you're here. You make it easier."

They walked into the villa.

There weren't many guests. Dominic was helping Susan walk over.

The couple looked great, and Susan's health seemed much better; she wasn't in a wheelchair.

"Jackson, can you walk Star in later?" Susan asked, holding Jackson's arm.

Jackson said, "Godmother Susan, it's better if Godfather Dominic does it for such an important occasion."

Star's face fell at his refusal.

"Jackson," Dominic said, his voice laced with concern, "I twisted my ankle a couple of days ago. Navigating the stairs might not be a pretty sight. If something happens, it could really embarrass Star."

Jackson noticed Dominic's right foot was indeed giving him trouble.

"Mr. Price is supposed to accompany Miss Price down the stairs under the lights," the butler interjected, "It'll be a bit of a strain for him."

Seeing Jackson's somewhat troubled expression, Star quickly chimed in, "Dad, if Jackson isn't up to it, let's not push him. I can manage on my own. Though I'm a bit nervous—I've never worn heels this high before. What if I stumble? If only Henry were here; he would've supported me."

The thought of Henry, just before he passed, grasping Jackson's hand with a heavy heart, made him glance at the jittery Star.

"I'll go with you," he offered, a reassuring smile taking shape.

Star's eyes lit up, a genuine smile spreading across her face.

Susan said, "Great! In that case, let's head upstairs so the makeup artist can do a final touch-up. I can't see how she looks, but I know my daughter will be the most beautiful tonight, right, Jackson?"

Susan wore a warm smile. Jackson nodded absently, his gaze still locked on Star. The red gown truly was striking, and for a fleeting moment, Lillian's face flashed before him.

When they were young, Lyra always dressed Lillian in red; she loved those vibrant outfits. But as Lillian grew up, those bold colors faded from her wardrobe, and it struck Jackson that she'd have looked stunning in such a dress today. He could easily have someone get one just for her.

Lost in thought, Jackson found his gaze lingering on Star longer than intended. Feeling the heat rising in her cheeks, she looked down shyly. "Jackson? Shall we?"

Turning, she grasped the hem of her gown and dashed up the stairs, her back radiating a blend of confidence and shyness.

Snapping back to reality, Jackson watched her retreating figure, bewildered.

Ten minutes later, guests began to trickle in.

Star sat before the makeup mirror for a final touch-up, striving for perfection. Her eyes, however, wandered to where Jackson was lounging on a nearby sofa.

In his tailored black suit, he exuded effortless charm, accentuating his broad shoulders and slim waist. His long legs were crossed, and he fiddled with his phone nonchalantly, radiating an air of innate elegance.

Such a man effortlessly captivated countless women yet also stirred their desire for conquest.

For the past few days, Star had been hiding her intentions, fearful of rushing things too much, but at this moment, she felt her desire simmering, barely contained. She bit her lip and smiled.

"Jackson, could you grab me a piece of orange candy? I'm still feeling a bit on edge."

When she was a child, candy was her go-to comfort for nerves.

Jackson met her gaze in the mirror, her playful wink pulling at his resolve. Star's deliberate gestures and playful atmosphere weren't lost on him; he wasn't oblivious to her game.

He paused, gazed at Star for a moment, then stood up.

Star's face lit up, but then she saw Jackson heading towards the door.

She pointed to the table beside her. "The candy is right there."

Jackson didn't look back. "I'm going out to make a call."

Star panicked and stood up to chase him. "Jackson!"

But Jackson closed the door behind him with some force, almost causing Star to bump into it.
