Chapter 786

Lillian and Shirley followed Jackson out of the guest room. Probably hearing the commotion, Gray, who was in the master bedroom, also opened his door.

Gray had changed into a black casual suit, looking distinguished and cold.

If one ignored the red swelling on his forehead and the slap mark on his cheek, he could have walked straight onto the red carpet.

"Jackson, are you and Lillian leaving?"

Jackson nodded slightly. Seeing the swelling on Gray's face, he thought about how it was caused by the two women behind him.

He usually had little emotion in his deep eyes when looking at anyone other than Lillian, but now there was a hint of sympathy and helplessness.

But he had already laid out the answer sheet for pursuing a wife in front of Gray. Even if it wasn't a perfect score, it was at least a passing grade, right?

Yet, Gray couldn't even copy it correctly. It seemed less deserving of sympathy that he got hit.

Thinking this, Jackson's gaze instantly sharpened, and he said, "I'm taking them back."

Gray had just said that he and Lillian were leaving, implying that Shirley would stay and it wouldn't be easy for her to leave.

Jackson understood, but he told Gray that he was taking both Lillian and Shirley with him.

Gray frowned instantly, "Jackson, I need someone to take care of me."

He had been beaten, with bruises on his face and body, and not just in one place.

Why should Shirley leave unscathed and arrogant?

Gray's cold eyes glanced at Shirley.

Shirley clenched her fist suddenly. She didn't want to trouble Jackson.

Jackson and Gray were friends. Why should Jackson offend his friend for her?

Wasn't it all to please Lillian?

Shirley took a deep breath. She thought that what she said in the room earlier was enough to make the proud Gray kick her out.

But clearly, Gray wanted to keep her to continue humiliating and tormenting her.

However, if she owed Jackson a favor, Lillian had to repay it for her. She would handle her own matters.

Shirley took a step forward, just about to speak, when Lillian stepped forward and took her arm, saying, "Alright, let's go downstairs and wait for him."

Lillian said this without giving Shirley time to react and dragged her towards the stairs.

Gray frowned deeply and took a step forward, but Jackson's tall and slender figure was already blocking his way.

"Jackson!"

"Shirley is already annoyed with you. What more do you want? Continuing to pester her won't look good."

Jackson looked disapproving, and Gray almost rolled his eyes.

Didn't Jackson feel guilty saying that? When he was chasing Lillian, didn't he think that pestering her didn't look good?

Unable to bear it any longer, Gray gritted his teeth and said, "Jackson, you can't use me to please Lillian while you're chasing her!"

Jackson raised his hand, patted Gray's shoulder, and said in a deep voice, "I'm planning to have my grandmother take her in as an honorary granddaughter. Whether it's because of this relationship or because Shirley isn't some random girl from the entertainment industry you can toy with, think carefully before you act."

Gray listened to Jackson's near-warning words and felt as if he had been punched in the chest.

"Did Shirley complain to you? You're deliberately having Lyra take her in as an honorary granddaughter now, Jackson, you're doing this on purpose!"

Jackson's thin lips twitched slightly. He never needed to explain his actions to anyone.

But he didn't want to ruin his long-standing friendship with Gray because of Shirley.

With patience, Jackson said in a deep voice, "Shirley and Lillian grew up together. When Lillian was young and later on, Shirley helped her a lot. Shirley even got hurt at our wedding. I'm very grateful to her."

Especially since he later learned that Lillian had been mildly depressed.

At that time, Max was in a vegetative state, and Lillian almost only had Shirley by her side.

Moreover, Lillian's decision to return to Miracalia was also because Shirley was in trouble.

Jackson was genuinely grateful to Shirley.

Most importantly, if Shirley got hurt because of Gray, Lillian would blame him and deduct points from him.

That was very serious.

Jackson's large hand on Gray's shoulder tightened, and he said with some force, "Your mom has always hoped you would marry a well-bred lady who could help you in your career. She already compromised when you insisted on entering the entertainment industry. She won't compromise on your marriage. You and Shirley are not suitable."

Hearing Jackson mention his mother, Gray's face turned even darker.

His mom, Melissa, came from the prestigious Collins family and was the only daughter, always proud and competitive.

But her marriage wasn't great. Her first husband was a cheating scumbag.

Melissa swiftly divorced the scumbag, and the mistress was a small-time actress.

Just after the divorce, the scumbag married the mistress, and the mistress announced her pregnancy the next month.

Melissa couldn't stand the humiliation and quickly married into the more prestigious Flores family, giving birth to Gray.

It was a way to humiliate those who mocked her.

But it wasn't perfect. His dad had a previous wife and a son, Zaid.

Melissa wanted Gray to be better than his older brother Zaid and even better than the son of her ex-husband and the mistress. Gray refused to compete with Zaid for the family fortune and insisted on entering the entertainment industry.

Melissa was furious back then, and now Gray wanted to marry someone like Shirley, who had no family background. It was almost impossible.

Moreover, Melissa's ex-husband's son had married a wealthy heiress from the Griffin family in two years ago, which only intensified Melissa's resolve to ensure Gray married someone with a more impressive pedigree.

Thinking about how Melissa had been urging him to go on blind dates with dozens of calls a day recently, Gray felt even more frustrated.

Besides, he and Shirley weren't like Jackson and Lillian, who had a decade-long relationship and had to get married after having sex.

"Jackson, I haven't known Shirley for long. We were just having fun at first, and she agreed. Everyone was happy. Talking about marriage now is too early!"

Gray rubbed his aching forehead, feeling very irritated.

Why did it seem like everyone was pushing him to get married now?

Gray ran his hand through his short hair again.

"But now Shirley doesn't want to be entangled with you anymore." Jackson said in a deep voice, withdrew his hand, and walked away.

Gray couldn't possibly think that Shirley should be grateful to be his mistress, right?

He had said everything he needed to say. If Gray understood, he should make a choice.
