Chapter 924
Lillian picked up Taylor and gently soothed him.
"Hey, hey, don't cry, little guy. Are you hungry? How about we let Daddy whip up some formula for you?"
Jackson, looking resigned, didn't wait for Lillian to prompt him. He got out of bed and turned on the light.
The warm yellow light filled the entire hospital room. Lillian saw Taylor's tear-streaked, chubby little face and felt her heart ache.
She quickly held the baby, gently patting him as she walked around the room.
"Did you have a bad dream, Taylor? Don't worry, Mommy's here. Or is something else bothering you? Why are you crying so much?"
Lillian was anxious, but her soothing seemed to have no effect.
At that moment, the housekeeper, who had been waiting outside, heard the commotion and quickly came in.
Seeing Taylor crying, Lillian was a bit flustered.
The housekeeper hurried over to help.
"Mrs. Frane, maybe check if Taylor needs a diaper change."
Lillian, still inexperienced, had assumed Taylor was either hungry or uncomfortable, forgetting to check if he needed a diaper change.
Hearing this, she quickly laid Taylor on the bed and checked his diaper.
"Looks like he did. Alright, Mommy knows now. Taylor didn't want to be a stinky baby, huh?"
Lillian didn't mind at all. With the housekeeper's help, she cleaned Taylor up and put on a fresh diaper.
Feeling clean and comfortable, Taylor immediately stopped crying and nestled against Lillian's shoulder, chewing on his little fingers, his eyes fixed on the housekeeper.
He probably found the housekeeper a bit unfamiliar.
Lillian gently pulled Taylor's fingers out of his mouth and looked at the housekeeper.
The housekeeper, who appeared to be in her forties, was dressed simply and neatly, looking very capable and kind.
Seeing Lillian looking over, she quickly smiled and explained.
"Mrs. Frane, I'm Rhiannon, the new nanny Mr. Frane hired for Taylor. You can ask me for anything you need."
Lillian nodded and smiled.
"Thank you, you were a big help just now."
"Just doing my job."
After speaking, Rhiannon quietly opened the window for ventilation and cleaned up the used diaper before leaving.
Lillian held Taylor and looked at Jackson, who was making the formula.
"Is Mireille okay?"
Mireille was the previous nanny Jackson had hired for Taylor. She and Taylor had disappeared together that day.
Now that Jackson had hired a new nanny, Lillian was worried something had happened to Mireille.
Jackson shook his head. "She's fine. Mireille was kidnapped and given a lot of sedatives, and kept in a warehouse outside the city. She needs some time to recover because of the drugs."
"She went through a lot for no reason. It wasn't her fault," Lillian said.
Jackson understood her concern and reassured her.
"Do you think I can't tell right from wrong? Don't worry, we compensated her well and told her she could come back anytime once she's recovered."
Lillian had been worried that Jackson might blame Mireille for not protecting Taylor and for trusting Haven, which led to Taylor's kidnapping.
But Haven had been hiding in the Price Mansion for years, and Mireille didn't know that Taylor wasn't a Price family child. It wasn't her fault.
Hearing Jackson's words, Lillian felt relieved.
"Is he still hungry?"
Jackson had finished making the formula, but Taylor didn't seem hungry anymore. He was nestled in Lillian's arms, playing with her hair, as if considering whether to taste it.
Lillian, seeing Taylor about to put her hair in his mouth, smoothed her hair back and took the bottle from Jackson.
She remembered Taylor calling for Mommy in his sleep before. She waved the bottle in front of Taylor and smiled.
"Taylor, say Mommy. Mommy."
Taylor stared at her with wide eyes, his little mouth opening.
"Say Mommy, and you can have some milk."
Jackson watched Lillian teasing Taylor with the bottle, a smile playing on his lips.
"Are you training a puppy?"
Lillian glared at Jackson, but then looked back at Taylor and felt a bit awkward herself. She brought the bottle closer to Taylor's mouth.
But Taylor turned his head away, pushing the bottle aside with his little hands.
"Not hungry?"
Seeing him refuse, Lillian was about to put the bottle away.
Unexpectedly, the next second, Taylor grabbed the bottle with his chubby hands and pushed the nipple towards Lillian's mouth.
Lillian was stunned. "Taylor wants Mommy to drink?"
Taylor's little mouth moved. "Mommy."
Taylor called her Mommy again, and this time, Lillian heard it clearly.
She was filled with joy and emotion. At that moment, she felt she would do anything for him.
Instinctively, she opened her mouth and took a sip from the bottle.
Hearing a sound, Lillian looked up and saw Jackson standing nearby with his phone.
It was clear he had recorded the moment.
"Who's feeding who? Who's the baby here?"
Lillian's face heated up. She quickly pulled the bottle away and stood up with Taylor.
"Let me see what you recorded!"
Jackson waved the phone at her, showing the picture of her with the bottle in her mouth. Lillian was embarrassed and annoyed.
"Delete it! Delete it now."
Jackson raised the phone higher. "Why delete it? It's a great memory. Our baby is so cute."
His eyes sparkled with amusement as he looked at her.
Lillian, holding Taylor, chased after him. "Delete it! Taylor, look at Daddy teasing Mommy. Help Mommy catch him and hit him, okay?"
She grabbed Taylor's little hand and pretended to hit Jackson.
Jackson dodged, and Taylor, thinking it was a game, laughed, filling the room with his innocent giggles.
As the family of three played, the door to the hospital room opened.
"Lillian, I brought you and Jackson some food."
Lillian found the voice familiar yet strange. She turned and saw Jeffrey standing at the door, holding a food container.
Jeffrey had wanted to visit Taylor in the hospital the day before, but Lyra had stopped him.
Lyra had said that Taylor had just been rescued, and Lillian and Jackson were busy cooperating with the police, so it wasn't a good time for him to visit.
Jeffrey had been too excited to sleep all night and had volunteered to bring breakfast first thing in the morning.
He called out to Lillian again.
"Lillian, what do you want to eat? Check if the breakfast I brought is to your liking. If not, I'll go get something else for you."
After Jeffrey's last conversation with Lillian, he seemed much better. Now that Taylor was back, his lively and enthusiastic nature had returned.
He placed the food container on the table and began opening it layer by layer.
Lillian watched him. "I'm not picky, I'll eat anything."
Jeffrey turned to look at Lillian, his expression serious.
"Well, now that Taylor is back, so he should call me uncle."He walked over to Lillian and bent down slightly to look at Taylor in her arms.
"Taylor is my little lifesaver. Lillian, can I hold Taylor?"
Lillian saw Jeffrey nervously licking his lips after speaking and couldn't help but smile at Taylor.
"Taylor, this is Jeffrey. Can he hold you for a bit?"
Taylor had been to the Frane Mansion before and had met Jeffrey. But back then, Jeffrey didn't know Logan was actually Taylor. Because of the Price family situation, Jeffrey didn't like Logan, whom he thought was a Price family child, and didn't want to interact with him.
Jeffrey, still a child himself, was very clear about his likes and dislikes. Logan, on the other hand, wanted to play with Jeffrey.
Several times, Logan had tried to approach Jeffrey, only to be met with cold stares and glares.
Now, Taylor looked at Jeffrey for a moment, then turned and nestled into Lillian's arms, showing Jeffrey only the back of his head.
Jeffrey felt a bit sad and awkward, looking at Lillian.
"Lillian, when Taylor was at the Frane Mansion, I wasn't nice to him. I think he's mad at me. What should I do?"
Lillian was genuinely surprised. She patted Taylor's little bottom.
"Really, Taylor? You remember Jeffrey? Holding a grudge, just like your dad."
Jackson, who was helping Lillian serve the hot porridge from the container, turned to look at her.
"My son takes after me, that's normal."
There was a hint of pride in his voice.
Lillian couldn't help but laugh. She patted Taylor again, coaxing him.
"Taylor, are you really not going to forgive Jeffrey? Jeffrey actually likes you a lot, and he even brought you a gift."
Lillian had noticed that Jeffrey had come in not only with a large food container but also with two big bags.
Jeffrey remembered he had brought gifts for Taylor. He slapped his forehead and quickly turned to rummage through the bags, pulling out several toys.
After some coaxing, Taylor seemed to forget his grudge and lunged at Jeffrey, playing with him.
Many of the toys Jeffrey brought were his own treasured items, which he usually didn't let anyone touch.
Now, Taylor was holding them, shaking and chewing on them. He even broke one of Jeffrey's meticulously crafted airplane models, but Jeffrey just laughed and picked up the pieces, explaining to Taylor where the engine and wings were.
Taylor was clearly excited, calling out as he played.
Seeing how well they were getting along, Lillian took the opportunity to freshen up in the bathroom.
When she came out, she saw Taylor sitting on the bed playing with toys, and Jeffrey was feeding him porridge.
This scene wasn't entirely unexpected, but what surprised Lillian was how adept Jeffrey was at taking care of Taylor.
To avoid burning Taylor, Jeffrey blew on each spoonful before bringing it to Taylor's mouth. When porridge got on Taylor's mouth, Jeffrey stopped to wipe it off.
He was patient and meticulous.
Was this really the same little tyrant from the Frane family?
Lillian was about to walk over when Jackson pulled her to the sofa.
"Let Jeffrey feed him. Aren't you hungry too? Let me feed you. Open up."
Jackson sat her down on the sofa and picked up a bowl of porridge.
Before Lillian could react, a spoonful of porridge was already at her lips.
The sweet aroma mixed with the scent of rice wafted into her nose.
Lillian instinctively opened her mouth and drank. Noticing Jeffrey's gaze, she quickly tried to take the bowl from Jackson.
"I can eat by myself."
But Jeffrey had already turned around and moved, completely facing away from them.
"I didn't see anything. You should work hard and get back together with Lillian. Being attentive is never wrong."
Jackson raised an eyebrow at Lillian. "Did you hear that? If I serve you for three years, our whole family will unanimously approve."
Lillian was speechless.
Over there, Jeffrey, though not looking back, was shaking with laughter.
Lillian's face felt warm. She took the bowl from Jackson.
"I can eat by myself!"
Seeing Jackson about to say something, Lillian quickly stuffed a pastry into his mouth to shut him up.
Jackson, seeing she wanted to maintain some dignity in front of Jeffrey, didn't tease her further.
Breakfast continued quietly. Just as they finished, the housekeeper came in to clear the table.
It was almost time for the doctor to make rounds.
Lillian pulled Jackson close.
"How's your wound feeling? Any pain or itching? You shouldn't have squeezed in with us last night."
They had slept in a position where Jackson was on his side, not putting pressure on his injured shoulder, but it still couldn't have been comfortable.
Lillian unbuttoned the top two buttons of Jackson's hospital gown and pulled back the collar, leaning in to check for any bleeding. Just then, a stern voice came from the doorway.
"People coming and going so early in the morning, what are you doing? Have some decency."
Lillian froze and turned to see a face she didn't particularly like. It was Martin.
Martin had never been fond of Lillian, but his dislike was always overt, unlike Daisy, who schemed behind the scenes.
Lillian hadn't seen him in a while, and his words were as unpleasant as ever.
In the past, Lillian would have tried to be respectful, giving him some face and acting a bit more demure.
But now, she didn't want to compromise herself at all.
Any self-compromise felt like disrespecting Oberon and Flora.
She was cherished and pampered by her grandparents. Why should she let others mistreat her?
So, Lillian gave Martin a brief glance, then turned back to continue examining Jackson's shoulder, exposing half of it.
