Chapter 696

Lillian glanced at the message on her phone.

[Congrats on the new job! Got you a little something to celebrate. Should be there soon. Happy first day!]

Jackson sure found out fast about her new job at The Kelly Media.

In Miracalia, Jackson seemed to know everything.

As Lillian was mulling it over, she heard footsteps and a young woman's voice behind her, "Lillian, someone dropped off a package for you."

Lillian turned to see the receptionist, Cecilia Thorne, approaching with a big cardboard box. Lillian quickly took it and set it on the table, thanking her.

Cecilia didn't leave. Instead, she leaned in curiously and asked, "The guy who delivered this was in a suit. Who is he? What's in the box? It's huge. Need any help?"

She had a sweet smile, her eyes full of curiosity.

Lillian smiled and politely declined, but Cecilia still hovered nearby, eager to assist.

Lillian opened the box, half-worried Jackson might've sent something over-the-top, but she was surprised by what she found inside.

They were all practical items she could use.

There were soft pillows, pretty desk ornaments, a desk calendar, a small mirror, a rechargeable hand warmer, a small vase, a water cup, a coffee mug, a mouse pad, and even a pair of soft-soled slippers at the bottom.

"So cute! Lillian, is the guy who sent these your boyfriend? This is so thoughtful. There's even a bouquet of roses," Cecilia gushed, drawing the attention of two other young female colleagues.

Lillian wasn't a fan of being the center of attention, so she smiled faintly and said, "No, I got all this stuff myself and had someone deliver it."

Cecilia thought about the guy who delivered the package. He didn't look like a delivery courier; he was dressed in a suit and had the air of a high-end assistant or chauffeur.

Cecilia picked up the bouquet of roses, asking, "You even bought fresh flowers for yourself? These roses are gorgeous. Want me to arrange them for you?"

The other two female colleagues, Doris and Elena, also smiled.

Doris asked with a hint of curiosity, "Lillian, your last name is Kelly. Are you related to the boss?"

Elena chimed in, "I think I've seen this ornament in a magazine. It's by a famous ceramic artist, worth over ten thousand dollars. Lillian, are you the heiress who just returned to the Kelly Family?"

Lillian took the dancing ceramic doll ornament from Elena and put it back in the box, saying, "Nope, just a coincidence we share the same last name. This ornament isn't real, it's a replica."

Even though Ambrose had driven Lillian to work that morning, she had gotten out near the company.

Ambrose had kindly offered to drop her off personally, but Lillian didn't want to reveal her identity too soon.

Oberon had sent her here to gain experience. If everyone knew she was the Kelly Family heir, they'd probably treat her differently.

Lillian didn't have much work experience. She had studied dance before and spent a year in Jackson's executive office, but it was mostly clerical work. She really wanted to learn something substantial.

When Cecilia and the others heard her denial, their expressions cooled a bit.

Lillian saw Cecilia holding the small bouquet of roses and smiled again, saying, "You don't need to arrange the roses for me. If you like them, you can take them and share them. Consider it a gift from me. Thalia is looking at us."

Cecilia and the others glanced at the manager's office, took a couple of roses each, and left.

It took Lillian about an hour to get her workspace organized. Once she was done, she picked up her phone to reply to Jackson.

[I don't need these things. Please have someone take them back.]

Jackson must have been glued to his phone because he replied almost instantly.

[If you don't like them, just toss them. I'll send you new ones.]

Lillian sighed, imagining Jackson sending something even more over-the-top next time, and rubbed her temples.

An hour later, Jackson wrapped up his meeting and handed his phone back to his assistant.

The assistant, trying to be helpful, asked, "Mr. Frane, do you not need it anymore?"

He had no idea why Jackson had been so attached to his phone during the meeting, checking it constantly.

Jackson replied calmly, with a hint of helplessness in his eyes, "No need."

Because Lillian had blocked his number.

Jackson walked into his office.

The puzzled assistant kept looking at his own phone, trying to figure out what was so special about Jackson's. He couldn't find anything unusual.

Maybe Jackson was checking if he had ever bad-mouthed him on social media? The assistant quickly opened his social media apps and nervously checked each post.

He was hopeful, but over the next couple of weeks, when Jackson borrowed almost everyone's phone in the office, he realized he had been overthinking it.

In the CEO's office, Terry had received an update from The Kelly Media and reported to Jackson, "Mr. Frane, Mrs. Frane ended up using the items you sent."

Hearing this, Jackson smiled slightly, "So she doesn't hate me that much anymore, right?"

Terry hesitated, "The twelve roses you sent her were given to her colleagues."

Twelve roses symbolized a love that grew stronger each day. Jackson had carefully chosen the number, not too extravagant but enough to express his feelings.

But Lillian had casually given them away.

Jackson's expression darkened, "She didn't keep even one?"

Terry didn't answer, and Jackson's lips pressed into a thin line, "You can leave now."

Even though Jackson didn't say much, Terry could feel the tension in the room.

Terry took a few steps, then stopped. He wanted to buy another riverside apartment this year, so he figured he could try a bit harder.

Terry turned around, opened a photo on his phone, and showed it to Jackson. "Mr. Frane, do you think this rose is pretty?"

Jackson glanced at the photo and saw a handmade rose, looking like it was made of velvet. He looked up at Terry.

Terry quickly explained, "I saw this on Nora's desk the other day. I thought it looked quite nice and unique, so I took a picture. Nora said she made it herself. It was originally a craft project she did with her daughter in kindergarten, and she made an extra rose."

Jackson's eyes turned cold as he stared at Terry, squinting slightly. 'Terry must be out of his mind to think I'll do something as childish as making crafts to please a woman.'
