Chapter 701

Lillian was familiar with this feeling. It just stirred up emotions by touching a scene.

Seeing the baby, it wasn't the first time she had felt this way, dazed, regretful, and with a hidden pain..

Lillian thought it would probably accompany her for life because no mother could forget her own baby.

The sound of high heels brought Lillian back to her senses.

Then Lillian's face changed because, around the corner, two waiters were carrying dishes and soups towards the turn.

The stroller was in their blind spot, and if they turned, they would definitely collide.

Judging by the waiters' path, they were about to turn.

If the food spilled, it would be unimaginable, and it could even knock over the stroller.

Lillian hurriedly shouted to the two waiters, "Stop! Don't move!"

The two waiters, startled by her shout and seeing her rushing over with a tense expression, immediately stopped in their tracks. "Is there a problem, ma'am?"

Lillian ignored their questions and quickly went over to protect the stroller, pushing it aside.

The waiters were startled to see a stroller there, but they obviously thought Lillian was the baby's mother and quickly apologized, "Sorry, ma'am, did we scare you? Is your baby okay? Your baby is so well-behaved, not crying or fussing."

Lillian was slightly stunned by their words, her mouth filled with bitterness, and she forced a smile, "This isn't my baby. I don't know why the baby is here alone. Please find the baby's family as soon as possible."

As Lillian was speaking, the baby in the stroller, perhaps sensing the noise and the approach of strangers, suddenly started crying with a pout.

The crying tugged at Lillian's heart, and she quickly looked into the stroller, finally seeing that it was a boy, a tiny cute boy.

Because he was crying, his small face quickly turned red, revealing his smooth, tender gums.

Everything about him looked incredibly soft.

Lillian, in a panic, wanted to pick up the baby to comfort him, but she didn't know how to start.

She had no experience holding such a small baby and was afraid of hurting him.

Lillian, anxious to the point of tears, wanted to cry along with the baby.

Just as Lillian was at a loss, her outstretched right hand was suddenly grabbed by a soft, gentle force.

Lillian's heart skipped a beat, and when she came to her senses, the baby had already grabbed one of her fingers and put it into his mouth, sucking on it.

The wet, warm, incredibly soft, and slightly itchy sensation from her fingertip left Lillian froze on the spot.

The waiter was stunned. "Not your baby? Okay, we'll contact the manager right away to find..."

Still in a daze, Lillian couldn't hear the waiter's voice anymore. She also didn't see a woman with a phone coming from the end of the corner.

Seeing the situation, the woman quickly walked over. She grabbed the stroller, "What are you all doing around my baby?"

Because of the woman's action, Lillian's finger was pulled out of the baby's mouth, and the cool air brushed over it, feeling chilly.

Lillian felt that chill and emptiness spread from her fingertip to her heart. She instinctively grabbed the stroller.

The woman glared at Lillian defensively, "What are you doing?"

The baby started crying again without the finger to soothe him, and the woman pushed Lillian aside, picking up the baby and gently patting him. Lying on her shoulder, the baby was quickly comforted.

Lillian watched the woman's skilled movements in a daze. Suppressing her disappointment, she asked in a low voice, "Are you his mother?"

The woman put the comforted baby back, "Of course."

She straightened the stroller and was about to leave, but Lillian blocked her way, and the woman grew impatient. "What do you want?"

Lillian said firmly, "We need to confirm that the baby is indeed yours before you can take him away!"

The woman clearly grew more impatient, glaring at Lillian, "What do you mean? Can't you see he recognizes me? Are you accusing me of being a kidnapper?"

Lillian stood her ground, "What kind of mother leaves such a small child alone and disappears? It's best to confirm."

Lillian looked at the waiters, who initially thought Lillian was overreacting but now felt uneasy. One waiter immediately used a walkie-talkie to contact the manager.

the woman's expression grew even more unpleasant. "Leaves him alone? I just went to the bathroom and realized I left my phone on the sink. I was gone for just a minute to get my phone. Mind your own business!"

The woman tried to push the stroller away, but Lillian grabbed the handle, insisting, "If I'm wrong, I'll apologize."

The two waiters quickly tried to calm the woman, and the manager arrived soon, saying they had checked the surveillance and confirmed the woman had brought the stroller in.

Lillian personally watched the surveillance footage before stepping aside.

The woman, however, was relentless, "Didn't you say you'd apologize?"

The manager, knowing Lillian had come in with Jackson and Ambrose, was about to step forward to negotiate with the woman, but Lillian raised her hand to stop him and slightly bowed to the woman.

Lillian apologized sincerely, "Sorry, I was abrupt. I apologize, but I still want to remind you that it's best not to let such a small baby out of your sight."

However, the woman remained impatient, "Got it, mind your own business."

She quickly left with the stroller, clearly not taking Lillian's reminder to heart.

The manager frowned, "How can she be like that? Don't mind her. Thank you for alerting our waiters earlier; otherwise, there could have been an accident."

Lillian looked at the manager, "Can you do me a favor?"

The manager nodded, "Of course, anything."

Lillian said, "Please make a copy of the surveillance footage from the corner just now and give it to that lady."

The mother clearly hadn't learned her lesson or taken Lillian's reminder to heart.

But the thought of the baby possibly facing another accident due to family negligence made Lillian's heart ache.

"No trouble at all, I'll do it right away. Don't worry, it will be done," the manager immediately agreed.

He and the waiters left, and Lillian stood there, staring at her finger in a daze.

There was still a glistening drop of saliva on it.

"What are you standing there for?" Jackson's familiar voice suddenly sounded above her head. When Lillian looked up and saw Jackson, the emotions stirred by the recent incident surged again.

She really didn't want to face him. She didn't answer him and started to walk back to the private room.

Jackson suddenly raised his hand and grabbed her shoulders, bending slightly to look at her, "Why are your eyes red? Have you been crying? What happened?"
