Chapter 623
Lillian's body shook a bit as she lay there, her hands gripping the sheets tight under the blanket, trying to keep her emotions in check.
He lied to her!
No way he went to the office.
He snuck out in the middle of the night, so how could he have gone to the office to handle documents?
And she just caught a whiff of disinfectant on him.
He must've found out something but decided to keep it from her.
When Jackson came back to the bedroom after his shower and change, Lillian's face was back to its usual cold look.
Violet brought up some food, and Jackson sat by the bed, watching Lillian eat.
She seemed to have accepted reality and wasn't fighting eating anymore. She quietly held the plate and ate in silence.
After she finished, Jackson took the napkin from Violet and wiped the corner of Lillian's mouth.
Just then, footsteps echoed, and Harry showed up at the door.
Jackson stood up and said, "You should get some more sleep. I'll head to the study..."
But Lillian suddenly grabbed Jackson's arm. "Let Harry come in and talk. I've slept too much, I don't want to sleep anymore."
Jackson's eyes fell on her hand gripping his arm, feeling his heart skip a beat.
"Lillian, you want me to stay with you a bit longer?"
His voice lifted slightly, and a soft smile appeared on his thin lips, clearly happy.
Lillian seemed to realize what she did and quickly pulled her hand back, turning her face away without a word.
Seeing this, Jackson's eyes showed a hint of a smile, but he said softly, "Talking here will disturb your rest."
He didn't want Harry talking in front of her, something was definitely up.
If Jackson wanted to hide something, no matter how much Lillian pushed, she wouldn't get any answers.
Just like when he hid the truth about the child Wendy was carrying.
Lillian said nothing more and closed her eyes.
Jackson leaned down, gently kissed her forehead, and then got up to leave.
Violet tidied up a bit, and seeing Lillian's long and steady breaths, as if she had fallen asleep, she quietly left the room and closed the door.
Lillian got out of bed, barefoot, and quietly walked out of the room towards the study.
She noticed that the villa's security was tight on the outside but lax on the inside.
After all, she was recuperating and needed peace; bodyguards coming and going would disturb her rest.
Inside the villa, there were only her private doctor, her assistant, and Violet, while outside, at least eight bodyguards were on duty.
The private doctor and the assistant rarely moved around inside the villa, and with Violet downstairs, no one would be upstairs.
So Lillian didn't hesitate and boldly walked towards the study, pressing her ear against the door to eavesdrop.
Faint voices reached her ears.
"Mr. Frane, should we pull back the people watching the Price family?"
"Did Dominic and Star do anything today?"
"No, they sent the kid to Digital Health Hospital, and then they went back home, staying at the Price Mansion."
After that, Harry said something else, but his voice suddenly became much lower.
Lillian only caught a few vague sentences at the end.
"Should we tell Mrs. Frane about this? Mrs. Frane might hate you even more."
Harry's question was met with Jackson's long silence.
Lillian felt a chill climbing up from her bare feet, like she was suddenly standing in a frozen wasteland, about to be buried by the biting wind and snow.
