Chapter 395 His Promise

The nurse was quite responsible and immediately brought the phone over.

Susan had already been taken to the operating room, and Jackson was anxiously waiting with Dominic.

Seeing the phone brought by the nurse, Jackson furrowed deeply. He took it and asked, "Where's the person who brought the phone?"

The nurse replied, "She gave me the phone and then left."

Jackson held the phone and said to Dominic, "I'll be right back."

Without waiting for Dominic to say anything, Jackson strode towards the elevator.

However, Lillian was nowhere to be seen on the floor, so he quickly called her.

The phone rang for a while before she answered.

Jackson was already in the elevator and asked in a deep voice, "Where are you?"

Lillian was walking out of the hospital. Hearing the urgency in his voice, she replied calmly, "I'm a bit tired, so I'm heading home. You go ahead and handle things."

Jackson could hear the coldness in her tone.

His heart tightened slightly, and he knew that she might have overheard his promise earlier.

Jackson was silent for a moment, his knuckles turning white as he gripped the phone. He said softly, "Honey..."

But before he could think of the right words to explain, Lillian interrupted him, "The car is here. I'm getting in. I gotta go."

Jackson's breath froze, and he said, "Alright. Let me know when you get home."

"Okay, I will." Lillian hung up the phone but sat down on a bench by the roadside.

Lillian had lied to Jackson. She hadn't actually got a cab yet.

She just didn't want to hear his explanation, nor did she need to.

Because even without hearing it, she knew he was going to say that he just tried to reassure Susan to go into surgery peacefully.

Just because Adara wasn't Star, he had to appease Susan temporarily.

However, those were not the words Lillian wanted to hear. She wanted a husband who would choose her firmly, no matter the time or place.

But he had ultimately disappointed her.

Lillian didn't know how long she had been sitting on the bench until her phone suddenly rang again.

She answered it numbly, and her expression changed when she heard the voice on the other end.

The call was from the paternity testing agency, informing her that the DNA comparison results of Wendy and Grace's hair samples she had sent in were ready, and she could come to pick up the report.

Lillian quickly got a taxi and rushed over.

"Where is she rushing off to? Rose, follow her." In the car across the street, Wendy watched Lillian leave and urged Rose to drive.

Wendy had previously bribed a nurse to keep an eye on Susan's condition.

Upon learning that Susan's condition had worsened and that Jackson and the others had come over, Wendy hurried over as well.

She hadn't expected to see a sad Lillian sitting on a bench outside the hospital before entering.

Wendy was in high spirits, knowing that Star's return had dealt a severe blow to Lillian.

She and Rose were enjoying the sight of Lillian's misery and were about to get out of the car to mock her, but Lillian received a call. Her expression changed, and she hurriedly got in a taxi and left.

Wendy sensed something was up.

Rose nodded and immediately drove to follow her.

Wendy hadn't expected that twenty minutes later, Lillian would get out of the car and walk into a paternity testing agency.

"It's so strange. What's she doing here?" Wendy was confused.
