Chapter 875
In the hospital room, Lillian could already hear Logan crying outside.
As soon as Terry walked in, she anxiously asked, "Is that Logan? Why's he crying like that?"
Terry nodded, "Mrs. Frane, Ms. Price brought Logan here."
Terry repeated Star's words, and Lillian felt a cold sneer inside.
She had come to terms with Logan's identity now. If she hadn't, Star wouldn't have missed the chance to bring the child here to provoke her, even while she was unconscious.
Jackson spoke sternly to Terry, "Tell her to leave."
But Lillian waved her hand, "No, I actually miss Logan. And why's he crying even harder? Isn't Mireille supposed to be taking care of him?"
Mireille was the nanny Jackson had specifically arranged for Logan.
Jackson nodded, "A couple of days ago, the Price family took Logan and Mireille back to the Price Manor. With Mireille there, Logan won't be mistreated."
But he had been busy taking care of Lillian these past few days and hadn't paid much attention to Logan's situation.
Lillian was still worried and said, "Didn't Star say Logan might help wake me up? Perfect, you can keep Logan here for a few more days."
Jackson wasn't too happy about it.
Although he liked Logan, he preferred having Lillian all to himself. Previously, he had insisted on keeping Logan because it meant Lillian would stay at the Peace Mansion. But now, keeping Logan would only distract Lillian from him.
He pondered silently, and Lillian directly told Terry, "Let her in."
She then turned to Jackson, "Aren't we suspicious that the Price family is connected to Ruby? This is a good chance to test them."
Jackson was a bit helpless and glanced at Terry.
Terry immediately stood still, and Jackson finally said to Lillian, "Are you sure you want to let her in like this?"
Before Lillian could react, Jackson lifted his neck slightly, revealing the fresh scab of a bite mark on his Adam's apple.
Jackson raised an eyebrow, "You were unconscious, and this is from my affair?"
Lillian was speechless.
Terry couldn't help but stifle a laugh at Lillian's stunned expression.
Lillian blushed slightly and glared at Jackson, "Why didn't you remind me earlier?"
They couldn't expose this now, and it was already past the season for wearing turtleneck sweaters. Plus, the bite mark wasn't something a single band-aid could cover.
Lillian fetched the first aid kit and tried to cover Jackson's neck with two band-aids, but it didn't work.
Frustrated, she grabbed a roll of gauze from the kit and started wrapping it around Jackson's neck. "Let me wrap this around you. Lower your head."
Jackson watched her leisurely, "Sure, then I can tell her I tried to slit my throat for you but failed."
Lillian was embarrassed and annoyed. "What should we do then?"
She had bitten him too hard, and it wasn't something that could be covered with foundation.
"Little fool. Go tidy yourself up first. You look too pretty to be unconscious. I'll have Terry bandage me."
Lillian touched her face. Jackson had taken good care of her these past few days, and her complexion had improved quickly.
She hurried to the bathroom. Fortunately, Shirley had brought some skincare and makeup products when she visited.
Lillian quickly applied makeup to make herself look sickly. When she came out of the bathroom, Terry had already cut a suitable piece of gauze and applied it to Jackson's neck.
Though it looked a bit odd, it wasn't too noticeable.
Luckily, Jackson still had the scars from breaking the car window, so the neck injury wouldn't be too suspicious.
Lillian lay down on the hospital bed and gave Terry an OK gesture.
Terry left, and soon Star walked in behind him, holding Logan, whose face was still streaked with tears, looking very distressed.
As soon as she entered the room, Star's eyes eagerly scanned Lillian on the bed.
Lillian lay there, thin and frail, covered tightly with a white blanket, which made her face look even paler.
Jackson sat by the bed, his back turned, holding Lillian's hand tightly, exuding a sense of deep sorrow and solitude.
He didn't even turn around when Star entered, his posture showing how much he cherished Lillian.
Star felt a mix of jealousy and hatred, but mostly she was pleased.
So what if Lillian had Jackson's love? She was unlucky now, and in this situation, Lillian might become a vegetable or even stop breathing in her sleep.
Star hoped Lillian would become a vegetable. Dying quickly would be too easy for her. Being a vegetable would be better; one day, Star would stand by Lillian's bed and tell her that she had replaced her as Jackson's wife.
Thinking about this, Star almost couldn't hide her excitement and joy.
She tried hard to control her emotions but ended up tightening her grip on Logan, causing him pain and making him cry again, breaking the silence in the room.
Jackson finally turned around, his eyes filled with anger at the disturbance to Lillian's peace.
Star felt her legs go weak under his gaze.
Her eyes reddened, and she managed to squeeze out some genuine tears.
"Jackson, I'm really sad about what happened to Lillian. Are you okay?"
Jackson showed no interest in her concern and coldly said, "He's too noisy. Get out!"
His expression was dark, his words impatient, and the bloodthirsty aura around him seemed ready to destroy everything.
Star was even more pleased, thinking Lillian really had no hope of waking up this time.
She patted Logan gently and cautiously said, "Jackson, Logan and Lillian have a special bond, you know that. Logan must be sad and scared seeing Lillian like this, showing they have a connection. How about I put Logan on the bed and see if he can get a reaction from Lillian?"
Jackson narrowed his eyes slightly. "How did you get the news?"
Seeing his calm expression, Star moved closer with Logan and said, "The special forces were involved that day, such a big commotion. Everyone was asking around to find out whose family was affected. Jackson, the upper circles almost all know now. The commotion that day was related to you. Although you tried to block the news, no one dared to spread specifics, but the story of a car falling into Mirror Lake and you jumping in to save someone has spread in the circles."
"But no one knows exactly who was involved, except me. How could I not guess?"
"The only person you can risk everything to save must be Lillian."
"How did this happen? Was it an accident? Or did Lillian offend someone outside?"
Star looked at Jackson inquisitively, her eyes filled with genuine confusion and surprise.
Jackson's cold eyes fixed on her, "You don't know who did it?"
Star was taken aback, her expression changing slightly. She quickly said, "Jackson, you don't think it was me, do you? This has nothing to do with our family. I didn't even know it was Lillian who got hurt until a couple of days ago. Really, you have to believe me!"
Star's face turned pale, clearly afraid that Jackson might blame her for this.
Her reaction didn't seem like she had any secret connection with Ruby.
Jackson had suspected that Star bringing Logan over was another attempt by Ruby to confirm Lillian's condition. But it seemed he was overthinking it.
Jackson withdrew his gaze and said, "It was an accident."
Star was full of surprise. An accident?
She felt it wasn't that simple, but regardless of who Lillian had offended, she was grateful to that person.
Her face, however, showed a sorrowful expression, and she began to cry, "The misunderstanding between Lillian and me hasn't even been resolved, and now this..."
Star's tears fell, making it seem like she and Lillian were close sisters with a deep bond.
Jackson's eyes were icy, and he abruptly interrupted her, "Lillian is just asleep. She'll wake up soon. Why are you crying here?"
Jackson's disdainful and resentful gaze cut into Star like a knife.
Star's expression stiffened, and she quickly said, "I'm sorry, Jackson. I misspoke. I also believe Lillian is lucky and will wake up soon. So, you need to take care of yourself and not worry too much. Otherwise, Lillian will feel guilty when she wakes up."
Her words seemed to comfort Jackson a bit, and his expression softened slightly. "You can bring Logan over to try."
Star's heart leaped with joy. Jackson's change in attitude gave her a glimmer of hope.
Sure enough, without Lillian, Jackson would eventually see her worth.
She walked over, approaching the bed, but Jackson reached out and took Logan from her arms, saying coldly, "That's enough. Step back! Lillian doesn't like you. If she smells you, she might not want to wake up."
Jackson's attitude made it seem like she was some kind of plague.
Star felt hurt but didn't dare go against Jackson's wishes. She told herself to be patient.
The key now was to see if Lillian really had no sensation.
She watched as Jackson placed Logan on his lap and brought him closer to Lillian.
Unlike his cold and ruthless demeanor towards her, Jackson's face was now full of warmth and hope.
He spoke softly, "Lillian, Logan is here. You like this child, don't you? He cares about you, too. Look, he's crying. Can you wake up and see him? Remember, you promised me we would have lots of babies. You haven't fulfilled your promise yet. How can you be lazy and sleep all the time?"
Lillian, of course, didn't respond. Jackson then turned to Logan and said, "Logan, call Lillian."
Logan seemed to understand, crawling towards the bed and grabbing Lillian's hand with his chubby little fingers, calling out continuously.
Lillian found that pretending to be unconscious was harder than she thought. Lying there, her whole body stiffened, and she wanted to move.
Especially with Logan holding her hand, his soft little fingers grasping hers. She almost turned her hand to play with him.
As she endured, Jackson's hand joined in, lightly tickling her palm while pretending to help Logan.
The tickling sensation was almost unbearable, and Lillian's eyelids nearly twitched.
She knew Jackson was doing it on purpose. Was this his way of getting back at her for biting his neck?
Just as she was thinking this, Star's voice broke in.
"Jackson, did Lillian's eyes just move under her eyelids? Is she reacting to Logan's touch?"
Star was full of shock, regretting her actions. Damn it, what if Logan really did wake Lillian up?
She wasn't here to save Lillian. If Lillian woke up, Star felt she might just die of anger.
Jackson's fingers continued their mischief in Lillian's palm. Hearing Star's words, he felt Lillian's body stiffen.
Jackson lowered his head, unable to suppress a chuckle.
Fortunately, he was facing away from Star, and her attention was on Lillian, so she didn't notice.
"Did she really react? Are you sure you didn't see it wrong? I didn't see anything. Logan, call her again."
Jackson said, moving Logan closer to Lillian.
Star, hearing Jackson say he didn't see anything, felt relieved.
Jackson was watching Lillian closely. If she had reacted, he would have seen it.
It must have been her imagination.
Thinking this, Star anxiously stepped forward, "Really, Jackson, I saw Lillian's eyes move."
Star, seemingly too excited, stumbled and fell towards Jackson's back.
In her mind, she would fall onto Jackson's back, hugging him from behind.
Jackson would be lost in his grief over Lillian's condition.
At that moment, she could hold him, offer him warmth, and tell him she was there for him.
But the scene she imagined didn't happen. Jackson, who had been sitting there, suddenly moved, holding Logan and stepping away.
"Ouch!"
Star crashed into the chair and then fell onto the bed.
She cried out in pain, and before she could recover, Jackson's stern voice came from nearby.
"Don't touch her!"
Star looked up, meeting Jackson's stormy gaze, which seemed ready to tear her apart.
She was terrified, realizing she had fallen onto the bed and pressed against Lillian.
Star was both scared and hurt by Jackson's harsh words.
His gaze made her feel like she was something dirty, unworthy of touching Lillian.
Driven by jealousy and hatred, Star, under the cover of the blanket, pinched a piece of Lillian's skin hard and twisted it.
