Chapter 846
Ambrose's gentle reminder was a stark contrast to Jackson's blunt one.
But Shirley felt their stares could burn holes through her hand.
She was speechless. Lilian wasn't made of glass. Why were they acting like she was hurting her?
Shirley's hand froze mid-air. She awkwardly pulled it back and looked at Lilian.
"Lilian, you must be hungry, right? Tell me what you want to eat, and I'll make it for you."
Remembering Shirley's disastrous cooking, Lilian quickly grabbed her hand.
"Let's just order takeout. I want to talk to you."
Shirley nodded eagerly.
Ambrose chimed in, "I've had the staff prepare some light meals. I'll call them to bring it over now."
"Thank you," Lilian said to Ambrose.
Ambrose's eyes were gentle and apologetic. "Grandpa and Grandma entrusted you to me, and I didn't take good care of you."
Luckily, Lilian had woken up. Otherwise, he would never have forgiven himself.
He had been in Miracalia and hadn't even noticed when Anouk was brought back.
Thinking about the recent findings, how Anouk had been targeting Lilian at the company, and now the sudden brake failure, Ambrose's eyes darkened with a heavy gloom.
Lilian, worried he would feel guilty, quickly smiled and waved her hand.
"Ambrose, don't say that. It's not your responsibility to take care of me. Besides, I wasn't careful enough. I didn't even tell you I was going out to eat that day. How can I blame you?"
She had underestimated human nature and hadn't been cautious enough.
Jackson, seeing Lilian smile so gently at Ambrose, immediately stepped forward to block her view and turned to Ambrose.
"Aren't you supposed to call the staff to bring the food? Stop dawdling."
Ambrose could see through his little scheme.
But he didn't say anything and turned to leave.
One person left, but Shirley was still by the bedside.
Jackson lowered his gaze, his intense stare almost piercing through Shirley.
"Ms. James, you have been here the past few days without leaving. You must be exhausted. How about going home and resting?"
Lilian looked at Shirley, who knew Jackson wanted her gone so he could have Lilian to himself.
She rolled her eyes. "I'm fine, not tired at all, and I don't need rest. But Mr. Frane, you're almost turning into a wild man. You should take some time to clean up."
Shirley still held a grudge for the hurt Jackson had caused Lilian before.
She couldn't believe Lilian had forgiven Jackson. Seeing them kiss passionately earlier, Shirley felt a mix of emotions.
It was like she had guarded the house so carefully, yet the prized cabbage had still been snatched by a pig.
Shirley turned back, squinting at Lilian.
"Lilian, who do you think should go rest now, me or him?"
Her best friend's eyes were full of warning, and the power of a best friend was formidable.
Lilian immediately decided that friends were most important and turned to Jackson.
"Jackson, I want to talk to Shirley for a bit."
Jackson was speechless.
This was frustrating.
His woman, after a major ordeal, wanted to see and spend time with someone else first!
Jackson clenched his fists and gave Shirley a cold look.
If she weren't a woman, he would have kicked her out the window.
Shirley met Jackson's gaze, feeling a bit scared but still mustering the courage to roll her eyes at him.
She turned back, ignoring Jackson's cold stare, and asked Lilian.
"Lilian, are you feeling uncomfortable anywhere? You don't know how scared I was when I got the call about your accident."
Shirley kept talking, clearly not planning to leave anytime soon.
Jackson stood there, stiff as an ice statue, with a volcano possibly sealed beneath.
Lilian sneaked a glance at him, giving him a look of reassurance and pleading. Jackson pointed at her, giving her a look that said he'd deal with her later, then turned and left.
As soon as he left, Shirley was furious.
"When did you forgive Jackson? I didn't even know. What did he do to make you fall for him again? What should I say? If he hadn't saved you this time, I'd want to slap him. Why does he only cause trouble for you?"
Lilian's face turned slightly red from embarrassment. She felt nervous and shy, like a teenager caught in a secret romance.
"Shirley, I didn't mean to hide it from you. I just recently agreed to be with him, and our relationship is still new. I wanted to wait a bit before telling you."
Who knew this accident would expose everything?
"You're not mad, are you?" Lilian asked cautiously.
Shirley laughed. "Would you break up with him if I were mad? You should worry about what your grandpa will say."
Though she didn't like Jackson and didn't want her best friend to go back to him, it was ultimately Lilian's decision. If Lillian chose to look back, there must be reasons worth her turning back to Jackson.
As an outsider, Shirley had no right to interfere.
She just hoped Jackson had thought things through and wouldn't hurt Lilian again. What else could she say?"Shirley, you're the best."
Lilian leaned over, resting her forehead on Shirley's shoulder.
Shirley patted her shoulder. "Stop it. If you want to be affectionate, go find your Jackson."
Lilian was surprised by her reaction; she thought Shirley would strongly oppose her being with Jackson.
She looked at Shirley in shock. "Why are you so calm? You're even joking about us?"
Shirley pursed her lips, looking at Lilian's surprised face.
"It's because Jackson has been doing well these past few days. You didn't see it because you were unconscious, but Miracalia was in chaos. The road to the suburbs was completely blocked, SWAT helicopters were deployed, and ambulances were rushing there. At least Jackson cares about you."
