Chapter 50 Release Them

Jackson's temples pulsed with the rhythm of his fury. Wendy, sensing his anger, gently placed her hand on his chest, her voice a soothing whisper, "Jackson, don't be angry. I... I'm okay. It was just a hammer blow to the arm. I'm not as fragile as you think..."

Jackson remained silent, his gaze hardening as he turned away. He quickly moved towards the exit, cradling Wendy in his arms. Nestled against him, Wendy shot a triumphant smile at Lilian. The sight of it made Lilian's blood run cold, her face draining of color.

"Jackson, do you even consider yourself a man?!" Shirley's voice rang out, sharp with accusation. "Your wife and brother are right there, and you're leaving with your mistress?" She charged forward, determined to stop them. If Jackson were to leave with Wendy in his arms, wouldn't that make Lilian a laughingstock?

But Jackson didn't falter, instead instructing his bodyguard, "Move her aside!" The bodyguards sprang into action, attempting to restrain Shirley. However, her taekwondo skills proved superior, and she quickly dispatched them. The brief delay, however, gave Jackson the opportunity to slip away with Wendy.

Shirley made to give chase, but Lilian's voice halted her. "Shirley, don't pursue them. Let them go." Lilian had been the butt of New York's jokes for the past four years. Shirley, her anger momentarily quelled, rushed to Lilian's side.

Lilian shot a glare at the remaining bodyguards, her voice laced with urgency. "Master Jeffery has fainted. Hurry up and assist him!" Her tone was fraught with genuine fear for Jeffery's well-being.

Lilian's hand stung with the sensation of two scratches, causing her to freeze. Looking down, she saw Jeffery's eye crack open, a sly wink directed at her. She was at a loss for words.

The little rascal had been holding his breath, his face flushed and sweat beading on his forehead, all to trick her into believing he was unconscious. Her anxiety had been for naught! She pinched him discreetly, prompting the bodyguard to step forward. He hoisted Jeffery up and they made a hasty exit.

Meanwhile, Jackson and Wendy had reached the mall's exit where Terry awaited them with a car. Catching sight of Jackson's impatient gaze, Terry quickly moved to meet them. "Boss, I'll take it from here." Wendy lifted her head, her eyes brimming with sadness. She reached out with her uninjured hand, clutching at Jackson's collar. "Jackson..." But her plea fell on deaf ears. Jackson had already extended his hand, passing her over to Terry.

Wendy clung to him, unwilling to let go. Terry, however, was firm. "Miss Sivan, the President's stitches have yet to be removed."

At his words, Wendy immediately released her grip, her eyes filled with concern. "It's been a week already, why hasn't Jackson's wound healed? Have the doctor examine him when we reach the hospital. I'm genuinely worried."

Jackson offered a slight nod, his gaze catching the sight of the bodyguard hauling Jeffery away from the corner of his eye. The young boy certainly knew how to play his part.

Lilian trailed after the bodyguard, her hand intertwined with Jeffery's. As they exited the mall, she caught sight of Jackson bending to slide into a car. The vehicle sped away almost instantly.

"Such haste," she muttered, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "Off to Wendy's funeral, are we?"

Jeffery struggled to suppress his laughter, his body shaking with the effort. The bodyguard, sensing something amiss, halted and cast a concerned glance downwards.

Lilian, her fingers pinching the boy's hand, voiced her worry. "He's fainted! Quick, to the car."

Once safely ensconced in the vehicle, Lilian allowed Jeffery to rest against her shoulder. In a hushed voice, she asked, "What happened?"

With his head nestled against Lilian's shoulder, Jeffery began to recount the day's events.

Days prior, he had spotted Wendy at the hospital, a bracelet dangling from her wrist. He had instantly recognized it as the Frane family's heirloom emerald bracelet.

Upon overhearing Wendy and Jenny's plans to go shopping, he had promptly instructed the bodyguard to tail them. His intent had been to have Wendy remove the bracelet, but she had proven uncooperative, and the bracelet had clung stubbornly to her wrist. Despite the staff's best efforts with lubricant, the bracelet had refused to budge.

Wendy had taken the opportunity to taunt Lilian a few more times. Unable to bear the insults directed at Lilian, Jeffery had arranged for a hammer to be brought in.

"Regrettably, my brother arrived too soon, and I missed my target. Even if it had shattered, I wouldn't have let her wear it! Who does she think she is? Sister Lilian, you are the only one I acknowledge as my sister-in-law!" Lilian, moved by his words, gently stroked the boy's head.

Shirley leaned in, whispering to Jeffery, "Jeffery, this is your fault. You acted recklessly. You should have included me!"

"Hmm, next time I'll involve you."

"Good, because I know how to wield a hammer. I'll teach you. We'll practice on the heads of the wicked, see if their brains are white or black."

Lilian lightly tapped Shirley's finger, chiding, "Don't fill the boy's head with such nonsense!"

Shirley, realizing her error, quickly backtracked. "I was only joking. Don't take it to heart."

Jeffery rolled his eyes at her, thinking, "I'm not as foolish as you." Watching their playful banter, Lilian's lips curled into a smile, her mood lifting.

At the hospital, Shirley received a call and had to leave for a set, leaving Lilian alone outside the emergency room. The doctor examined Jeffery and soon moved him to a temporary ward for observation.

Upon her arrival, Daisy immediately berated Lilian. "Didn't I entrust you with his care? How did Jeffery end up fainting and in the hospital? Can't you do anything right?"

Seeing Lilian under fire, Jeffery quickly sprang up from the hospital bed. "I'm fine, Mom. Don't blame Sister Lilian. I caused the trouble, so blame me."

Daisy rushed to the bed, enveloping Jeffery in a worried embrace. "Why did you get up? Lie down quickly and tell Mom where it hurts. How did you faint so suddenly? Are you bleeding? Do you have a fever?"

Lilian quietly exited the ward, fearing Daisy would turn her wrath towards her again. She closed the ward door behind her, and as she turned around, she was met with a slap across her face.
