Chapter 378 Nightmares
Lillian didn't sleep well.
In her dream, she seemed to return to the summer when she was eleven.
That day, she received the prize money from a competition and ran a long way to the mall after school to buy a diamond-studded business pen she had been eyeing for a long time. It was a gift she wanted to give to Jackson.
However, when Lillian returned to the Frane Mansion, she learned that Jackson was going abroad to study, and he would be gone for several years.
She squatted on the road outside the Frane Mansion until midnight, waiting for Jackson to return from a gathering with friends.
When Jackson got out of the car, she stumbled over, hugged him by the waist, and looked up at him with tearful eyes, asking, "Jackson, can't you stay? There are good universities here, too. Why do you have to go abroad?"
Jackson replied softly, "No, I have to go."
Lillian cried and said, "But I don't want to be separated from you."
Jackson said, "Sorry, I can't stay to watch you grow up."
Lillian asked expectedly, "Can't I go with you?"
Jackson denied. "No, I'll be very busy and won't have time for you."
Lillian tried hard to persuade him. "I don't need you to take care of me. Instead, I can take care of you. The food abroad is terrible, and you won't like it. I can cook for you. I'm really good at it."
However, Jackson patted her head and firmly shook his head. "Be good, Lilian. It can't."
At that time, Lillian didn't understand why he had to go abroad, but now she did.
The reason he had to leave was Star.
He left her and went abroad for so many years, all to find Star.
The dream shifted bizarrely, and suddenly, Lillian was in the operating room.
She was pinned down on the operating table, and Daisy, with a ferocious look, shouted at the doctor, "Cut her open! I need to save Jeffrey. If we wait, it will be too late!"
The doctor approached with a scalpel, and Lillian struggled and screamed, "You can't do this to me. Jackson won't let you hurt us."
"Who do you think you are? Lilian is back. She is my daughter-in-law and is already pregnant. She is about to marry Jackson. The child in your belly is just a blood bag to save Jeffrey! Give up!"
"No, it's not true!" Lillian struggled in disbelief but saw Jackson walk in with the pregnant Star standing beside him.
He gently supported Star and looked at her coldly, instructing the doctor, "Do it!"
"No! Get away!" Lillian suddenly screamed, her hands flailing wildly in the air.
However, a warm, steady force held her, and a familiar male voice called out, "Lillian! Wake up!"
Lillian abruptly opened her eyes to see Jackson's familiar handsome face.
Jackson was lying beside her, his brows slightly furrowed, his eyes filled with obvious concern.
"Had a nightmare? Don't be afraid, I'm here." Seeing Lillian awake, Jackson softly comforted her, gently patting her back with one hand.
For a moment, Lillian was dazed, as if she was still in the dream.
When she had nightmares as a child, Jackson would comfort her the same way.
Lillian pondered, 'If Jackson hadn't gone abroad and there was no Star, we could have remained as close as we were in our childhood. How nice that would have been. However, I wasn't his first choice before. Now, I'm certainly not.'
"I'm fine now," Lillian replied calmly. Her eyes gradually cleared, and she pushed Jackson away, trying to sit up.
But Jackson wrapped his arm around her waist, pulling her back into his embrace, and said softly, "Even if you're fine, you should lie down and rest. The doctor said you need rest for two days."
Lillian leaned against his chest, listening to his steady and strong heartbeat, her body stiff.
Jackson clearly felt her silent resistance.
