Chapter 838
Lillian suddenly stopped in her tracks and turned around.
Ophelia had always treated Ruby like a little sister. Since Ophelia had no other siblings, many of her belongings were left to Ruby after she passed away.
And when Ruby married Kenneth, Ophelia's possessions naturally ended up with Ruby.
This was evident when Ruby took over The Kelly Media, which Ophelia had founded.
After Lillian returned to the Kelly family, during a family dinner, Oberon brought up the matter. Ruby did hand over some of Ophelia's things to Lillian.
However, Ruby made various excuses to keep some items, including many of Ophelia's cherished jewelry and artworks.
"Alright, I'll go with you at noon," Lillian said, staring at Anouk and agreeing without hesitation.
As Lillian turned to go back inside, Anouk's eyes turned cold, and she left with a faint smile.
Noon.
Just before Lillian was about to leave work, Jackson's Facebook message popped up right on time.
[Jealous King: I'll pick you up. Let's go back to the Peace Mansion and have dinner with Logan? He misses you. Photos, photos.]
Lillian opened the two photos he sent.
They were likely from Mireille. One showed Mireille holding Logan in the yard, with Logan craning his neck to look down the road outside the Peace Mansion.
The other photo showed Logan with teary eyes, looking directly at the camera. His pitiful expression made it impossible to refuse him, making Lillian want to reach through the screen and hug him.
Lillian's lips curved into a smile as she replied to Jackson.
[Got plans at noon.]
Jackson replied almost instantly.
[Man or woman?]
Lillian chuckled at Jackson's response, thinking his "Jealous King" nickname was well-deserved.
[Man.]
Kenneth had asked her to come over, and even though he was her biological father, he was still a man.
Lillian expected Jackson to immediately follow up with more questions, but to her surprise, he went silent.
Maybe he got busy all of a sudden?
Lillian shrugged it off and got back to her work.
She got so engrossed in her tasks that she forgot she was still in the middle of a conversation with Jackson.
Meanwhile, in the CEO's office at Star Group.
Jackson was reviewing documents, but his phone was placed to the side, and he kept glancing at it.
He was annoyed that Lillian, as his girlfriend, had declined to spend lunch with him with another man.
He was upset and decided not to reply, expecting Lillian to explain and comfort him.
But as he finished most of his paperwork and his phone remained silent, Jackson's mood soured, and his lips tightened.
He tossed his pen on the desk, picked up his phone, and unlocked it, opening Facebook again.
[Is it Ambrose?]
Jackson typed but then deleted the message word by word.
He hadn't asked directly before, and now, after so long, it would make him look even more ridiculous.
Lillian wasn't explaining or comforting him. Didn't he deserve some respect as her boyfriend?
Jackson tugged at his tie and tossed his phone back on the desk.
He pressed the call button, and soon, Terry walked in briskly.
"Yes, sir?"
"Check if Ambrose has any lunch reservations at any major restaurants. Also, check for Mrs. Frane's reservations."
Terry was used to such requests and left without a hint of surprise.
He returned within five minutes, informing Jackson that Ambrose had indeed reserved a private room at the upscale Bell Pavilion, not far from The Kelly Media.
Jackson's expression darkened immediately.
"Mr. Barton from Kaiyue Company has been trying to schedule a meeting to discuss their new VR technology. Let's do it today."
Terry understood and replied promptly, "Yes, Mr. Frane. I'll book a spot at Bell Pavilion right away."
Not just any spot, but the one next to Ambrose's private room.
As Jackson's assistant, Terry felt his ability to read his boss's intentions had improved significantly over the past year.
Noon.
Lillian left The Kelly Media and stood by the roadside, waiting for her ride.
She had come from the Peace Mansion that morning, driven by the Frane family's chauffeur, so she didn't have her car.
Before her ride arrived, a flashy red Porsche 911 roared out of the underground parking lot and stopped in front of her.
The driver's window rolled down, and Anouk, pushing her sunglasses up, smiled at Lillian.
"Lillian, this car is a gift from Dad for my new job. It's my first time driving it. Hop in, I'll give you a ride."
Anouk emphasized that the car was a gift from Kenneth, knowing Lillian, his biological daughter, didn't receive such a gift.
Anouk intended to hurt Lillian, but Lillian felt nothing.
She had no emotional attachment to Kenneth and had long outgrown any desire for fatherly love.
Besides, since returning to the Kelly family, Ambrose had showered her with affection, even dedicating a new parking lot at The Kelly Mansion filled with luxury cars for her.
In Miracalia, Ambrose had also prepared two cars and a chauffeur for her.
But Lillian preferred to keep a low profile, so she had Ambrose get her a more modest car.
"Lillian? Are you upset? If so, I can..."
Anouk started to say, but Lillian walked around the car, opened the passenger door, and got in.
Anouk was stunned that Lillian got in.
"What are you waiting for? Drive," Lillian said, fastening her seatbelt and pulling out her phone to play a game.
The game's background music played, making Anouk feel like a chauffeur for a rich heiress.
She gritted her teeth and started the car.
"Lillian, can you stop playing games? You know I rarely drive myself," Anouk said, frowning after a short distance.
Lillian glanced at her and exited the game.
"Your driving is that bad?"
Anouk laughed awkwardly. "I never had the chance to drive before. I told Dad I should practice with a regular car first, but he said his daughter could drive any car, and it would be worth it even if I crashed it."
Lillian smirked. "Well, let's hope you don't crash this one. I kinda like my life."
Anouk's grip on the steering wheel tightened, but she forced a smile. "Don't worry, I'll get us there in one piece."
Lillian leaned back in her seat, watching the cityscape pass by. "Good. Because I have plans, and being late isn't one of them."
