Chapter 246 A Chance to Make Amends

Barry was a prominent figure at school, admitted to Snowcrest Institute a scholarship. At the end of Lillian's freshman year, he already graduated and went abroad.

He had a car accident overseas, and no one at the school knew about it.

Lillian thought of how teachers and classmates often mentioned the brilliant Barry at that time. When everyone thought he was thriving abroad, he was actually enduring the pain of disability, which made her feel a pang of sympathy.

"You were very strong. You stood up again," Lillian comforted.

Barry's smile remained gentle, as if after he had gone through many storms, he had grewn calm and serene.

"There were times I felt hopeless and even tried to overdose on sleeping pills. My mother discovered my diary after almost losing me that time," Barry gazed at Lillian and said, " She saw you as a beacon of hope for my recovery and went back to the Frane family to arrange an engagement. After I talked to her and promised to pull myself together, she went back to the Frane family to clear things up. But by then, you were already... "

Barry didn't finish, but Lillian understood. He meant that by then, she had already been involved in that scandal with Jackson.

Whenever Lillian heard people mention that incident, she could never remain calm. Her face turned slightly pale.

Barry continued, "My mother guessed that you might have done something foolish to avoid the engagement, and she felt very regretful. I also felt guilty and didn't dare to contact you again."

Lillian remembered occasionally receiving greeting messages from Barry at first, but they eventually stopped. But, it was normal for friends who went abroad to drift apart, so she didn't care about it.

"Later, I cured my legs and transfered to studying medicine. When I returned from abroad, Max had an accident, and I wanted to make up for the past, so I became his attending physician. When I saw you, I wanted to apologize, but I found you seemed unaware of the engagement. I couldn't figure out the reason, so I didn't mention it again and haven't revealed my identity in the past two years."

Barry finished explaining and looked at Lillian solemnly, his eyes filled with apology. "Lillian, I'm sorry for my offense back then and for my concealment. I don't expect you to forgive me, but I hope you can give me a chance to amend. The Phantom Kingdom research lab is a great opportunity for Max, and I hope to help you wake him up."

Lillian shook her head.

After seeing that, Barry looked dejected, but then he heard Lillian say, "I've forgiven you, so you don't need to be like this. As for Max, I can't accept your kindness. I'm sorry."

Lillian didn't hold much resentment towards Barry, perhaps because she had also experienced secret crush. She also only dared to pour her feelings and thoughts into her diary in the quiet of the night and then seal them away. Lillian felt a sense of empathy and understanding towards Barry.

The person who drugged her wasn't from the Hall family, and that night's incident had nothing to do with the Halls' engagement. Even if the Halls' engagement was somewhat disrespectful to her, Barry didn't know about it. He had been dedicated to Max for over a year, which had already made up for it.

"You really don't blame me?" Barry asked in surprise.

Lillian smiled and nodded. "It's good to clarify things. Barry, you don't need to feel guilty."

She looked at Barry, unflinching, and said, "That incident back then had nothing to do with the engagement. It was my own choice."

Barry's fingers clenched. He understood that this was Lillian's way of rejecting him.

She said that she willingly had a relationship with Jackson back then, and it had nothing to do with him or the engagement. She had rejected him once again without any hesitation.

Barry gave a bitter smile and said, "Alright, I understand. My mother has always wanted to apologize to you in person..."

Before Barry could finish, something suddenly leaped out of the flowerbed, startling Lillian, who swayed and fell to the side.

Barry quickly steadied her, and Lillian, still shaken, said, "Thank you."

It was a mischievous wild cat that had climbed up a tree.

Lillian looked up and saw Barry's gaze fixed on her belly, where her hands were tightly clasped.

"Does Jackson know about your pregnancy?" Barry suddenly asked.

He had seen Lillian talking to herself while touching her belly, which aroused his suspicion.

Lillian was shocked as she asked, "How did you know that?"

"I've seen many pregnant women in the hospital. Their protective gestures towards their babies are exactly like yours right now, so I guessed," Barry replied.

Lillian grasped Barry's arm and said, "He doesn't know. Please keep it a secret for me."

Barry's expression was complicated, saying, "But Lillian, being a single mother is very tough, especially being alone in a foreign country, far from home! Jackson doesn't seem like an irresponsible man. Maybe you two should have a good talk. Running away abroad isn't the solution, and the child needs a father."

Lillian didn't expect him to persuade her as well. She shook her head and withdrew her hand, saying, "I've already decided. Barry, I want to be alone for a while."

"Alright." Barry didn't say anything more and turned to leave.

Just as he reached the hospital entrance, he ran into Jackson, who was walking out quickly. Their eyes met, and Jackson walked towards him.

"She's in the garden," Barry offered.

Jackson's cold eyes fixed on him as he said, "I don't need your reminder. It's unnecessary."

As Jackson was about to pass by Barry, Barry hesitated but then raised his hand to stop him. He looked at Jackson, who was cold, and said, "Instead of being unnecessarily jealous and causing trouble with women, you should care more about Lillian's health and give her a sense of security."

Jackson's eyes narrowed, turning dangerous and cold. "What do you mean by that?"
