Chapter 52 Who Dared to Strike My Wife's Face
Jackson deftly sidestepped, evading the subtle movements of Wendy. His voice, firm and resolute, filled the room, "Lilian could not have been the one to spur Jeffrey into action. You've misconstrued her intentions."
Wendy found it difficult to believe what she was hearing. Despite her current predicament, Jackson was quick to leap to Lilian's defense. She lifted her tear-streaked face, unable to voice her innocent grievances, and sought solace in Jenny's embrace.
Jenny, immediately complying with Wendy's silent plea, voiced her complaints to Jackson. "Brother Jackson, look at what Wendy has been subjected to! Ever since her return, she's been confined to this hospital bed, repeatedly assaulted by Lilian. Lilian, who you've indulged to the point of her losing sight of right and wrong. Wendy is the biological daughter, and Lilian is just an imposter. If not for your support, she wouldn't dare to act so audaciously. Why do you continue to shield her? Jeffrey, still so young and innocent, has no quarrel with Wendy. His harassment of her must be Lilian's doing! Jeffrey has always been easily manipulated by Lilian, he listens to her every word!"
Jenny's fervent wish was for Jackson to reprimand Lilian, especially after Wendy's severe injuries. The audacity of an adopted daughter to step on her own sister was unthinkable.
Jackson's gaze shifted, its intensity causing Jenny's face to blanch and her heart to race. "Jenny, by what right do you stand here? Don't forget, you're a Frane, not a Sivan. Lilian is your sister-in-law! Leave." His voice was cold, indifferent, not quite a reprimand, but enough to silence Jenny. She knew Jackson was irate, and she didn't dare challenge his authority. With tears streaming down her face, she gently disentangled herself from Wendy and fled the room.
Wendy collapsed back onto the hospital bed, her lips trembling. "Jackson, Jenny was merely defending me. Are you blaming me? I'm the one who's been beaten and mistreated..." Her tears flowed freely, her sense of injustice overwhelming.
Jackson's mind was filled with images of Lilian's defiant and unyielding demeanor, her eyes rimmed with red. His voice softened slightly, a hint of annoyance flickering in his eyes. "Today's incident was Jeffrey's doing. I'll reprimand him and have him apologize to you later. But I'll say it once more, Lilian had no part in this. Take this, use it for your medical expenses and as compensation."
Jackson pulled out a bank card from his wallet, placing it on the bedside table without a glance at the stunned Wendy. "Rest well," he said, before turning on his heel and striding towards the door. He exited the room without giving Wendy a chance to stop him.
As he closed the door behind him, he bumped into the York couple who were on their way in, with Lilian trailing behind them. His gaze fell on Lilian, who met his stare with a cold expression before turning her head away. But Jackson's eyes turned icy, his aura radiating danger.
"Jackson, you..." Grace began, but was cut off as Jackson's gaze swept over her. His voice was icy as he demanded, "Who dared to strike my wife's face?!"
