Chapter 459 Thank You
Lillian had always found Star a bit odd, but now it all made sense. The contrast between the carefully displayed vulnerability and the underlying sense of insecurity was glaringly contradictory.
"It's driving me up the wall," Shirley said, reaching to rub her head, but Lillian quickly stopped her.
"Don't move! Okay, don't be mad. I shouldn't have told you all this.
"By the way, when you got hurt and had surgery yesterday, Gray stayed outside the whole time. He only left after you were taken to the ICU. What's going on with you two?"
Lillian squinted at Shirley.
Shirley didn't care and raised an eyebrow. "It's nothing."
"What do you mean?"
"He's into me."
"And you?"
"I don't care."
Lillian looked at Shirley's nonchalant attitude and was a bit speechless.
"What do you mean by 'I don't care'?"
"I mean, if I want to date, I can go out with him. His family is rich, and he's a big movie star. I wouldn't lose out. That's just how relationships in the entertainment industry work. Don't worry, I'm not like you; I won't let emotions get in the way."
Shirley blinked, looking indifferent.
Lillian thought that sometimes feelings were beyond control, and one might not even realize when one was falling into them.
She wanted to ask more, but there was a knock on the door.
Lillian opened it and saw Star.
Star was holding a big bouquet of flowers, followed by a maid carrying a lot of nutritional supplements.
"Lillian, I'm here to thank Ms. James. May I come in?"
Lillian had snapped at Dominic in the ward yesterday, and she didn't expect Star to actually come.
She didn't want Shirley to be disturbed and was about to refuse, but Shirley spoke up from behind, "Lillian, who's here to see me? Let her in."
Shirley was clearly curious about the infamous Star.
Lillian stepped aside, and Star walked to the bedside with a gentle smile.
"Ms. James, I'm Star. Lillian should have mentioned me to you, right?
"Yesterday, you risked your life to save Henry's child. We are all very grateful. I'm here today on behalf of the Price family to thank you."
Star handed the bouquet to Shirley.
Shirley didn't take it and smiled apologetically. "Sorry, I'm too dizzy and weak. Who did you say you are again? Why would Lillian mention you to me?"
Shirley thought, 'Don't think I couldn't hear the hidden meaning in your words.'
Star, holding the bouquet, straightened up, her smile unwavering.
"Lillian didn't mention me? Then, let me introduce myself again. I'm Star, I grew up with Jackson, I..."
Seeing Shirley's lack of resistance, Star seemed poised to elaborate on every detail of her history with Jackson, ready to dig a knife into Lillian's heart.
Shirley immediately frowned and interrupted, "Miss Price, I'm too dizzy to listen to your long story. If you have something to say, say it. If not, I appreciate your gesture, but I need to rest."
Star nodded. "I'm just here to express my gratitude. Here are five million dollars as a token of appreciation. Please accept it, Ms. James."
She took out a bank card and placed it on the table.
Shirley didn't even glance at the card; she just looked at Star and smiled.
"I heard there were issues with the baby Wendy's carrying. I also heard she might be facing jail time. Given the circumstances, I don't think I can accept this money."
Star was surprised and said, "That's not accurate. While the baby might have some complications, the Price family is more than capable of supporting a child. The baby is going to be born.
"Jackson has also entrusted Wendy to us for care. Please accept this gift, Ms. James. Don't have any psychological burden."
Even though Lillian knew that Jackson had no bottom line when it came to the Price family, she didn't expect him to let Wendy off the hook again.
She suddenly clenched her fists, a hint of hatred in her eyes.
