Chapter 604

Jackson yanked at his tie and strolled in.

"Lilian, I ain't tryin' to control you, just wanna look out for you."

Lilian shot back, ice-cold, "Mr. Frane, we got nothin' now. I don't need your help."

She figured she'd bounce back quicker if he just left her alone.

Jackson frowned, about to say something, but then there was a knock on the hospital room door, and Shirley's voice piped up from behind.

"Lilian, guess who's here? It's Mr. Kelly, come to see you."

Shirley waltzed in, all smiles, with someone in tow.

Trailing behind her was a tall dude—Ambrose.

Maybe 'cause he was visiting, he ditched the formal shirt. Rocking a dark blue striped suit with a simple white crew-neck tee underneath, a bit loose but still showing off his solid build.

He had a thermos in hand, following Shirley, and his eyes locked onto Lilian.

Then, his gaze zeroed in on what Lilian was holding.

A divorce certificate.

"Did I crash the party? Mr. Frane, you cool with this?"

Clearly, Jackson and Lilian had just split, and Ambrose's steps faltered a bit.

Jackson turned to Ambrose, eyes icy.

Ambrose's intentions were crystal clear, and Jackson wanted to boot him out.

But he couldn't. Whether it was 'cause Ambrose had saved Lilian last night or 'cause he wasn't her husband anymore, he just couldn't.

They were divorced, and now other guys could openly chase her.

They could try to win her over.

One day, Lilian might be swayed, might fall for another guy, might end up with someone else.

Realizing this, Jackson, who'd been pretty chill when he got the divorce papers, suddenly felt a storm brewing inside.

His handsome face darkened, and he said coldly, "If I did mind, would you leave?"

Shirley stepped up, subtly positioning herself between Jackson and the bed, nudging Jackson aside.

"Mr. Kelly, have a seat. Chat with Lilian; I'm sure she'd love it."

Shirley even fetched a chair for Ambrose, placing it by Lilian's bed.

Feeling Jackson's cold stare, Shirley didn't flinch, rolling her eyes and adding, "Whether Jackson minds or not, Mr. Kelly, you don't need to care. He's just a guest now, not welcome at all, so what right does he have to mind?"

Shirley hoped Jackson would get mad and leave.

But Jackson didn't budge; he walked to the window and plopped down on the sofa.

"Didn't get to thank you properly yesterday, please sit." Lilian ignored Jackson's glare and smiled faintly at Ambrose.

Ambrose stepped forward, sat down, placed the thermos on the table, and said warmly, "My grandma made fish soup for you herself, wanna try some?"

"You're late, she's not hungry..." Jackson said coldly.

But before he could finish, Lilian smiled and nodded at Ambrose.

"Did Mrs. Flora Kelly get scared last night? I'm really sorry to trouble her to make soup for me. I'd love to try it."

Last night, the Kelly family had saved her, and Flora and Oberon had been comforting Lilian all the way.

Such kindness was beyond words, and with Flora personally making soup, Lilian couldn't just ignore it out of politeness.

"I'll do it," Shirley jumped in.

After serving the fish soup, Shirley didn't hand it to Lilian but said, "Oops, I might've served too much, it's kinda hot. Lilian, you don't have the strength, don't spill it on yourself."

Ambrose then turned slightly. "I'll handle it."

"That'd be awesome, thanks, Mr. Kelly."
