Chapter 911
A flicker of something strange crossed Ruby's face, but the regret and struggle quickly vanished.
Holding the document, she looked at Lillian across from her and said, "Isn't it weird? My kidney failure happened just a month after this document was dated. Don't you think that's too much of a coincidence?"
Lillian, seeing the suspicion and sarcasm on Ruby's face, quickly understood what she was implying.
Furious and incredulous, she shot back, "Are you saying my grandfather sabotaged you? That your kidney failure his fault?"
Ruby nodded with a smile. "Exactly. I hadn't even experienced kidney failure yet, and Oberon already had a donor lined up. Isn't that suspicious?"
Ruby's lips curled into a malicious grin. "You Kellys are experts at pretending to be saints, winning people over with your fake nobility. Your mother, your grandfather—they're the worst. Maybe my kidney failure was his doing, so he could swoop in with a donor and get all the gratitude and praise."
Lillian, surprisingly, felt no anger. She realized Ruby was a shameless creature, devoid of any conscience.
She snatched the document from Ruby's hand and sneered, "You have no right to talk about my mother or grandfather. You see everyone through your dirty, selfish lens. You're pathetic, incapable of understanding love or human decency.
Since you've been here, has anyone visited you? Cared about you? Your loved ones have probably abandoned you."
Since Ruby's incarceration, the Lawson family hadn't shown up. They were in chaos, too busy with their own troubles. Ruby knew the Lawsons were cold and heartless. Even if someone did visit, it would likely be to persuade her to take the fall alone, sparing the family.
Kenneth hadn't shown up either, eager to distance himself from her.
Ruby's expression darkened, her gaze at Lillian sharp as a knife.
Lillian, unfazed, mocked, "A monster like you doesn't deserve kindness. No wonder your own parents don't love or value you. Ruby, you should have been drowned at birth."
Lillian, usually kind-hearted, even to those who wronged her, rarely spoke so harshly. But Ruby, as Lillian said, didn't deserve to be treated as human.
Ruby's face twisted with rage, her most hated sore spot hit. She interrupted Lillian, shouting, "Shut up! What do you know? Don't forget, your son is still in my hands."
Lillian clenched her fists. Jackson gently took her hand, prying her fingers open, his gaze icy as he stared at Ruby. "Your crimes are well-documented. Getting released won't be easy. First, prove Taylor is alive and in your custody. Then, we can discuss medical parole and a kidney transplant. Ruby, you know we won't agree to anything based on your words alone."
Jackson's deep voice resonated, and Ruby knew he was right. Proving that Taylor was in her hands would secure her the transplant.
"Deal," Ruby said, standing up.
Lillian frowned, watching her. "Contact your people now!"
Ruby turned, signaling the police to take her back. She glanced back at Lillian with a smirk. "Go home. You'll get proof your son is alive in a couple of days."
She had already instructed her people to hide Logan if anything happened to her, avoiding contact with the police to prevent Jackson from tracing them.
Lillian, anxious, saw that Ruby was more cunning and cautious than they had thought. She wanted to speak, but Jackson squeezed her hand, calming her. "I won't accept any DNA results unless I verify them myself. I need Taylor's blood sample, nothing else."
Lillian watched Ruby tensely. Ruby, surprisingly, agreed. "Fine."
She had prepared for this. On the fifth day after her arrest, Taylor's blood sample would reach the Kelly Manor.
Ruby disappeared, leaving Lillian worried. "I didn't expect her to be so prepared and cautious!"
Jackson patted her hand, guiding her out. In the car, seeing her still silent and tense, he ruffled her hair. "As long as they make a move, they'll reveal something. Taylor will be closer to us. Ruby's caution shows she values her life, so she won't harm Taylor."
Lillian felt a bit reassured, nodding. "I'll have Grandpa's people keep a close watch."
Back at the Kelly Manor, Terry was waiting outside. Seeing Lillian and Jackson, he approached. "Mrs. Frane, rest assured. Next time, Mr. Frane will bring Taylor home."
With everything in Seaspring Valley City arranged, Jackson was almost certain Taylor was somewhere in Miracalia. They had planned for Jackson to return there immediately to find Taylor.
Lillian smiled at Terry. "Thank you."
Terry quickly stepped back, not wanting to take up their time. Lillian looked at Jackson, her eyes speaking volumes.
Jackson gently touched her hair, kissed her forehead, and said softly but firmly, "Don't worry. I'll bring Taylor home safely."
Ambrose approached from a distance. Jackson released Lillian, turning to him. "Ambrose, take care of Lillian and everything here in Seaspring Valley City."
Ambrose still wasn't used to Jackson treating him with such respect. He adjusted his glasses and nodded.
Jackson gave Lillian one last look before getting into the car. Lillian watched the car drive away, her heart filled with endless worry and hope.
"Let's go back. Don't worry, Miracalia is already set up like a trap. As soon as the fish makes a move, we'll catch it," Ambrose said, patting Lillian's shoulder. She looked up at him and smiled, nodding.
The next evening, Lillian received the blood sample.
She was in the living room, folding clothes she had prepared for Taylor. The clothes had been urgently sent by the brand, and Lillian had personally washed and dried them, folding each piece carefully.
The butler rushed in from outside, his footsteps sounding different. Ambrose immediately stood up and walked quickly to meet him.
The butler held a delivery box, saying, "A package for Ms. Kelly just arrived."
"Quick! Give it to me," Oberon said urgently. Lillian put down the clothes, her eyes fixed on the box.
The butler carefully placed the box on the table, and a servant brought over a knife. Oberon reached to open the box, but Ambrose, worried about potential danger, stopped him.
"Grandpa, let me do it," Ambrose said, looking at Lillian. She immediately took Oberon's arm.
"Grandpa, let Ambrose handle it," she said, guiding Oberon to stand a bit farther away. Ruby was known for her ruthlessness.
Ambrose opened the box and took out a safe. Inside the safe were ice packs and a vial of blood.
Ambrose breathed a sigh of relief and nodded at Lillian and Oberon.
Lillian quickly approached, carefully taking the vial of blood and holding it close, her eyes welling up with emotion.
This was Taylor's blood sample.
The testing team was already prepared. Ambrose patted Lillian's shoulder.
Lillian handed the blood sample to the doctor, who stepped forward. "Ms. Kelly, don't worry," the doctor said, taking the sample and leaving.
Ambrose's phone rang. He answered, listened briefly, and then hung up, turning to Oberon. "We've caught the person who delivered the package. I'll go check it out."
Oberon nodded. "Go ahead."
Lillian didn't have to wait long. Ambrose returned quickly, knowing Oberon and Lillian were anxious for news.
He didn't waste time. "The package appeared out of nowhere. We can't trace the sender's address, and the tracking number is invalid. Only the delivery address is ours. The delivery driver didn't know anything. Someone slipped the box into his truck while he was distracted. We've already identified the person who did it and are keeping an eye on him."
Oberon nodded. "Don't lose him."
"Don't worry, Grandpa. The police are personally leading a team to follow him. We won't lose him."
As Ambrose spoke, Oberon's phone rang. Lillian and Ambrose looked over, tense.
"Grandpa, is it the doctor with the results?" Lillian asked.
Oberon saw it was indeed the doctor calling and immediately put the phone on speaker.
"Mr. Kelly, congratulations. The paternity test results are in. The sample matches your granddaughter, confirming the mother-son relationship. Your grandson is indeed your family. After all he's been through, he'll surely have a bright future," the doctor said.
The doctor was someone the Kelly family had supported in the past and was completely trustworthy.
Lillian, though she had already believed Logan was Taylor and that Taylor was alive, felt a wave of relief and joy hearing the confirmation.
She choked up, "Thank you. Thank you for bringing me this wonderful news."
Oberon smiled. "When Taylor comes home, we'll have a welcome party. You'll be invited, and we'll have a special gift for you."
After hanging up, Lillian looked at Oberon, who quickly wiped his eyes before turning back to her.
Lillian took Oberon's hand, about to offer comfort, but he patted her hand. "Grandpa is just very happy. Go call Jackson."
Lillian hugged Oberon before taking her phone and walking to the garden.
Her fingers trembled as she dialed Jackson's number.
Jackson answered quickly, clearly waiting for the results. The moment the phone rang, his deep voice came through. "I'm here."
Lillian tried to speak but choked up first.
She didn't hold back, crying as she said, "It's our Taylor! Taylor is really alive. You have to bring him home."
Jackson was silent for a moment before his voice, hoarse with emotion, replied, "Don't cry. Trust me."
Lillian hung up and took a long time to calm down before returning to the living room. Oberon and Flora were still there, but Ambrose was gone.
"Where's Ambrose?" Lillian asked.
"The person who delivered the package wandered around the city before finally entering a shantytown. Ambrose got a call from the police. They're preparing to act, and Ambrose went to join them," Oberon explained.
It was already past eleven at night.
Lillian walked over to Flora, who was clearly exhausted, and said to Oberon, "Grandpa, you and Grandma should rest. We might not get any definite news tonight. Even if you want to wait, Grandma can't stay up any longer."
Flora didn't know what was going on, but she insisted on staying up with Oberon and Lillian.
Seeing Flora's tired state, Oberon nodded and didn't argue.
Lillian escorted them to their bedroom, making sure they were settled before turning off the lights and leaving.
Unable to stay still, she grabbed a coat and went outside.
She called Ambrose.
"Ambrose, which shantytown are you in? I'm coming over."
"Don't come. This person isn't from Gemma's family. He's just a hired hand. Someone contacted him two days ago, paid him to pick up the box today, and promised more money after the job. We're tracing the payment and checking the surveillance from the pickup location and route..."
As Lillian listened, she heard a shout of excitement from Ambrose's end.
"Captain, we've identified the target! It must be him!"
