Chapter 488 Intrude

Jackson got back to Peace Mansion late at night, exhausted after two days without Lillian. He was surprised to see the lights on.

His heart raced, and he rushed inside, hoping to find her. The living room was empty, but he heard a noise from the dining room.

He walked over and saw a woman by the table, her hair glowing softly in the dim light. For a moment, he thought it was Lillian.

"Honey," he called out, his voice cracking. The woman turned, smiling, but it wasn't Lillian. It was Star.

He thought, 'Of course, Lillian, who has meticulously planned her departure, wouldn't suddenly change her mind and return home.'

"Jackson, I'm sorry if I'm intruding," Star said, her voice tinged with nervousness.

Jackson quickly masked his emotions. He flicked on the overhead light.

The bright light revealed Jackson's cold, stern face and furrowed brows.

"What are you doing here? How did you get in?"

Star seemed taken aback by his icy tone, her expression becoming uneasy.

"Daisy brought me here. She went upstairs. I know Lillian is missing, and you've been so anxious and restless without much rest.

"I was worried about you. I brought some food, and since you were late coming back, I thought I'd cook something for you. Are you hungry? How about I get you a bowl of porridge first?"

Star's eyes were full of concern, her smile warm and inviting.

She stood there like a devoted wife waiting for her husband to come home, ready to offer comfort.

Jackson, however, couldn't help but remember how Lillian used to wait for him day after day in the same manner.

He lowered his gaze slightly to hide the sadness in his eyes and turned away coldly.

"Please leave."

His tone was frostier than the winter chill, leaving Star feeling stiff and utterly embarrassed.

She had hoped that with Lillian gone, she might seize her chance to comfort Jackson in his moment of need.

But his response was colder than she had anticipated, a clear rejection.

She bit her lip, feeling awkward and out of place.

At that moment, Daisy's voice echoed from the living room. "Jackson, how can you speak to Star like that? She's just trying to help you. She's made food for you. What's wrong with that?"

Jackson turned to Daisy, irritation flashing in his eyes. "What are you doing here?"

Daisy frowned. "I came to see for myself if Lillian truly left! How could you keep such a huge thing from the family?

"I checked upstairs. Lillian's things are still there. Is she really gone, or is she just planning something else?"
