Chapter 862
Lillian's heart skipped a beat, panic flickering in her eyes as she instinctively responded.
"Grandpa, what are you talking about? I didn't..."
Before she could finish her lie, Jackson's tall figure appeared behind her.
Lillian was speechless.
What kind of boyfriend was this, always exposing her lies?
Feeling a bit embarrassed, Lillian didn't dare to look at Oberon's expression on the screen.
"Hey, Grandpa, Grandma," Jackson greeted casually.
When Lillian started the video call, Jackson had been sitting on the couch opposite the hospital bed, never leaving.
Although it was Lillian's sudden glance at him that made Oberon suspicious, Jackson was certain.
Oberon must have known he was there all along. It was just ,Lillian, who thought she could fool him.
"Don't call us Grandpa and Grandma. It's not appropriate. After all, you and Lillian are divorced. There's no need to be so familiar," Oberon said, his expression unchanged, but his words sharp.
Jackson didn't mind at all and nodded.
"Sure thing. I'll follow your lead. Whenever you tell me to change how I address you, I'll do it."
Oberon was both amused and annoyed. "You sure are confident. How do you know I'll ever tell you to change?"
Jackson's smile faded slightly, and he spoke seriously.
"I don't know, but I have patience. For Lillian, I'll wait as long as it takes."
As Jackson spoke, he looked at Lillian. She instinctively looked back, and they shared a brief smile.
Then Lillian noticed Oberon's stern, disappointed gaze that seemed to pierce through the screen.
Lillian hadn't forgotten that Oberon had just been upset earlier today.
He couldn't handle any more stress.
She quickly looked away, scooting over to give Jackson most of the screen.
Let Oberon direct his anger at him.
"Patience? You think you can wait? You need to have the right to wait! Let me be clear, just because you saved Lillian this time doesn't mean I approve of you two!"
Oberon stood up from the operating table without warning and bowed to Jackson on the screen.
"Grandpa!" Jackson exclaimed, his expression changing.
Lillian turned around, shocked by what she saw.
"Grandpa, what are you doing? Please get up."
Lillian took the tablet from Jackson, her eyes reddening as she looked at Oberon's graying hair on the screen. She urged.
"Ambrose, help Grandpa up!"
"Mr. Kelly, you were just feeling dizzy. Please sit down and talk."
Ambrose tried to help Oberon, but he didn't move.
Jackson's eyes darkened as he spoke.
"Mr. Kelly, I understand your feelings. Don't worry."
Only then did Oberon let Ambrose help him up.
"Grandpa, you don't need to do this. Jackson and I..."
Lillian was anxious. She wanted to tell Oberon that Jackson saving her didn't require such gratitude. If Oberon didn't want them together, she would thank Jackson properly herself and listen to Oberon.
But before she could finish, Jackson, thinking she was about to argue with Oberon, squeezed her arm to remind her.
Lillian stopped, and Jackson looked at Oberon.
"I know I hurt Lillian before. You have every right to be angry and not trust me..."
Oberon interrupted with a nod.
"At least you know that. You did everything you could to save Lillian this time. I know you pulled a lot of strings. I'll have the butler prepare a generous gift to thank you. But don't think for a second that you can win her back."
Oberon's words were firm. He didn't care about Jackson's silence and turned to Lillian.
"Lillian, men who betray once will do it again. Don't be fooled by his act. Grandpa doesn't approve of you two being together. Do you understand?"
Jackson looked at Lillian, about to squeeze her arm again to remind her not to argue with Oberon for his sake.
But before he could, Lillian smiled brightly at Oberon and said cheerfully.
"Of course, Grandpa. You're the best role model for a husband. If you say he's not good enough, then he's not good enough. I trust your judgment completely."
Jackson was speechless.
He didn't want Lillian to have conflicts with her family because of him.
But her quick agreement left him feeling a bit cold.
Oberon, on the other hand, felt warm inside.
Lillian was still the same, filial and considerate. Such a good granddaughter shouldn't be wasted on someone like Jackson, who didn't appreciate her.
He refused to believe he couldn't find someone better.
Oberon snorted and glared at Jackson. "Did you hear that? Lillian listens to me. The Kelly family isn't so easily fooled. Stay away from her. We'll send a generous gift to the Frane family to thank you for saving her, but don't think you can use this to get back with her."
