Chapter 468 Genuine Smile
"Nothing much, just a bit nervous since I'm performing tomorrow," Lillian said, trying to keep her anxiety hidden. She tilted her head up and gave Jackson a faint smile. "Are you coming to the show?"
For the past week, Jackson had been making every effort to please Lillian.
He spent more time with her and supported all her desires, but despite his efforts, there was still a barrier between them, making their interactions feel distant and awkward.
This was the first time Lillian had extended an invitation to him since their wedding.
Jackson was momentarily taken aback, feeling unexpectedly honored.
He removed his coat and draped it over Lillian's shoulders, pulling her close and gently teasing her nose with his finger as if in affectionate play.
"Of course, if my wife is inviting me, I wouldn't miss it."
Lillian looked up at Jackson, a smile gracing her lips.
Her eyes sparkled with a joyful light.
It had been over four years since she had last been on stage, and she was genuinely thrilled.
This time, Taylor would be performing with her, which made the occasion even more special.
Jackson was Taylor's father, so she sincerely hoped he could be there to watch, both as a farewell gift for Taylor and as a way to draw a line under their past.
Jackson's gaze grew intense as he looked down at Lillian. His warm hand rested on her waist, holding her tightly. He leaned down to kiss her forehead, his lips curling into a teasing smile.
"Darling, it's been a long time since I've seen you smile like that."
There was a glimmer of hope in his eyes.
He tilted his head slightly and leaned in to capture her lips in a kiss.
Lillian froze momentarily, torn between avoiding the kiss and not wanting Jackson to sense her discomfort.
As their breaths mingled, a familiar voice interrupted.
"Jackson, it's cold outside. Why don't you take Lillian and get in the car?"
Lillian jerked her head around to see Star's smiling face through the lowered rear window.
She pulled away from Jackson's embrace, taking a deep breath. She caught a hint of perfume on Jackson's coat, her eyes flashing with sarcasm.
Jackson had been gentle and attentive recently, worried that pressuring Lillian too much might push her away. He hadn't forced any intimacy on her.
The perfect moment almost led to the kiss he had longed for but was interrupted, leaving Jackson frowning in frustration.
"Let's go. Get in the car," he said, his voice carrying a hint of irritation.
He pulled Lillian's shoulder and guided her towards the car.
Jackson opened the rear door, and Star immediately moved aside.
Jackson gestured for Lillian to get in, but she sidestepped.
"Three people will make it too cramped. I'll sit in the front," she said, heading towards the front seat.
Jackson quickly grabbed her waist, pulling her back.
"Lillian, don't be difficult."
Jackson's voice was hushed. He was likely feeling that Lillian was putting Star in an awkward position.
Lillian stood rigid, her frown deepening, unwilling to back down.
She squeezed into the middle seat, feeling like an unwelcome third party.
Her concern that she might feel nauseous on the way was evident.
Noticing her stubbornness, Jackson spoke quietly, "I ran into Star at the auction today, and the Price family’s car had some trouble. We're just giving her a ride, okay?"
Inside the car, Star leaned slightly forward.
