Chapter 247 She Belonged to Me

Barry's eyes, behind his glasses, grew cold.

"Lillian had been unaware of the engagement all along, but she found out just when you were registering for divorce and when she and I were about to go to Phantom Kingdom. Wasn't this something you did on purpose?"

Jackson, of course, had done it on purpose. He replied coldly, "I haven't settled the scores with you for what happened four years ago. You'd better stay away from her now!"

The gentle expression on Barry's face had vanished as he said, "The Halls openly come to propose marriage. What's wrong with that? Four years ago, Lillian wasn't yours."

"Sounds nice! Didn't you know the situation Lillian was in with the Frane family? Lyra had already refused, and then you went to my parents. How is that different from forcing her?"

Only Lyra and Jackson would protect Lillian in the Frane family. The Halls arranged the engagement while Jackson was in Miracalia, and after Lyra refused, they approached the other Franes again. How could they not know that Martin and Daisy, in the face of benefits, would push Lillian out?

Barry's face turned slightly pale, and he averted his eyes from Jackson's sharp gaze. But Jackson did not let him off. A mocking smile played on his thin lips.

He added, "Lillian wasn't even eighteen then. They wanted her to go abroad to care for a disabled person under the pretext of an engagement. How shameless of the Halls. Just because you was disabled and ruined, does that mean  a daughter from the other family, who they deem less noble, should be dragged down with you?"

Barry's fists clenched tightly. He knew that what Amy did back then was wrong. If not for that, he wouldn't have hidden his identity for the past two years. He felt guilty and feared that Lillian would resent him.

Jackson's narrow eyes narrowed further, and he spoke coldly again, "She is not just any girl. She is a member of the Frane family! She belongs to me. The Halls bully her, and they must bear the consequences!"

Even if Barry had been in perfect health then, Jackson couldn't allow the Halls to take Lillian away.

Barry's eyes narrowed as well. He caught another meaning in Jackson's words, saying, "So, it was Mr. Frane who caused the Halls to withdraw from the market in Harmonyland."

Three years ago, when the Halls was expanding into the Harmonyland auto market, it was a prime opportunity and everything was going smoothly. Then suddenly, they encountered numerous obstacles. After two major mishaps, they missed the best opportunity and completely exited the Harmonyland market last year, suffering significant losses.

Jackson did not deny it. Barry nodded and said, "The Halls have paid the price, and I have also obtained Lillian's forgiveness. She is now 22 years old. She has the right to choose whom she wants to be with in the future. I hope you won't be too persistent and will respect and let go of her when the time comes."

Barry nodded slightly and walked past Jackson.

Jackson's face turned sullen as Barry mentioned Lillian. He frowned slightly.

He didn't understand what Barry meant by asking him to care about Lillian's health.

'Damn it, I should have asked clearly,' he thought.

Jackson strode towards the garden to find Lillian.

Over there, Lillian parted ways with Barry and strolled in the garden. She walked to a corner and heard a familiar woman's voice coming from behind a nearby hedge.

"Let go of me! Stop it. What if someone sees us?"

"Uncomfortable? So let anybody see us. I'll just go to your house for the engagement and play with you openly every day, keeping you in bed. Isn't that better?"

"You're awful! Get off me. I have to go for a prenatal checkup. Take your hand out! Be gentle."

Lillian was stunned.  She recognized that it was Wendy's voice.

The other man's voice was young and somewhat familiar. It was someone she probably knew, but she couldn't recall who it was at the moment.

Regardless of who it was, Wendy was pregnant and had an affair with a man here.
