Chapter 721
Star's voice was filled with malice as she spoke, knowing that nothing else would provoke Lillian.
But she insisted on using the baby to hit Lillian's sore spot. Lillian was finally enraged and slapped Star across the face.
Star gasped, covering her face and glaring at Lillian with resentment. "You dare hit me!"
Lillian chuckled. "You deserved it! If you don't leave now, do you believe I'll slap you two more times?"
Star clenched her fists, gave Lillian a vicious look, but ultimately said nothing and left quickly.
She knew that even if she complained to Jackson and Lyra about Lillian hitting her, it wouldn't matter.
"What did Star just say to you?" Lillian took a step, only to see Jackson's tall and upright figure rounding the corner.
Clearly, Jackson had seen Lillian slap Star.
Star's words had affected Lillian's mood, making her annoyed at the sight of Jackson.
The harmony and warmth from their meal at the restaurant had completely vanished.
Lillian thought, 'Star would say those things just to get me to slap her, probably for this.'
Lillian's voice was cold. "What? Do you feel sorry for her?"
Jackson stepped closer, grabbing Lillian's right wrist without a word, his handsome face filled with anger. "Are you stupid? If I felt sorry for her, I would have asked why you hit her, not what she said to you!"
He was only concerned about what Star had said that made Lillian so emotional and violent.
But Lillian misunderstood his intentions.
The anger in his brows was replaced by helplessness. Jackson lowered his head, forcibly opening Lillian's right hand to examine her delicate palm under the light. "Does your hand hurt?"
Her palm was slightly red. Jackson frowned, his thumb instinctively tracing the lines on her palm.
Lillian's hand felt a bit numb from the slap, and his gentle touch sent a sensation that was hard to describe as either itchy or painful.
Lillian's fingers trembled as she forcefully pulled her hand back.
"The wind is picking up, and Grandma is feeling a bit cold. I'll go get a shawl." Lillian walked away after speaking. Jackson's large hand, which she had brushed away, paused in mid-air but he didn't reach out to grab her again.
In the car, Star stared at her swollen face and eyes in the mirror, angrily throwing the makeup mirror.
The driver didn't dare to make a sound, but the mirror almost hit his head.
He dodged, causing the steering wheel to wobble, and the car swerved slightly. Star immediately glared at him coldly. "Useless! Go to the Porter Manor."
"Sorry, I'll change the route right away."
Half an hour later, Star arrived at the Porter Manor.
When she arrived, Bianca had locked herself in her room. Bianca's mother, Zoey Porter, was outside with two servants carrying food, trying to persuade her to open the door.
Zoey kept urging Bianca to open the door, but there were sounds of things being thrown and smashed inside.
"Let me try." Star took the tray from one of the servants.
Zoey, as if seeing a savior, nodded quickly. "Bianca has been locked in her room and hasn't come out or eaten since her father forced her to publicly apologize in front of the media. This can't go on. Star, you're her good friend. Please comfort and persuade her."
Star nodded. After Zoey and the others left, she knocked on the door and spoke gently, "Bianca, it's me. Can you open the door and let me in to see you?"
There was no response from inside. Star's voice took on a tearful tone. "Bianca, my dad just gave me a harsh scolding too. I just came from the Frane Mansion."
The door opened, Bianca looked pale and much thinner. Seeing Star, who also had swollen eyes and a slap mark on her face, she stepped aside to let her in.
Star went in, comforted Bianca to eat a little, then held her hand and said, "Lillian and Shirley are nothing. They came from the slums and dare to go against the Porter Family and the Price Family only because they have Jackson's support. You are the heiress of the Porter family, and your dad cares you so much. He punished you severely because of Jackson. I went to the Frane Mansion to plead for you. As long as Star Group and HorizonHive Media cooperate, your dad will be happy and won't be mad at you anymore. Once this matter blows over, everything will be fine."
Bianca was moved, especially since she had been treated as a pariah these past few days. Her usual friends ignored her, but Star still stood by her. "Star, I knew you were different from the others. Thank you."
Star, however, looked guilty and apologized, "Don't say that. Unfortunately, I went at a bad time. Lillian was at the Frane Mansion. When she heard I was there to plead for you, she didn't let me in, hiding it from Lyra and Jackson. She even slapped me."
Bianca extremely hated Lillian. She could have almost ruined Shirley's reputation.
Because of Lillian, Shirley had cleared her name, and Bianca had become the one exposed online.
Even her engagement to Gray was jeopardized. Melissa wouldn't take her calls, and the marriage was likely affected.
Bianca's eyes were filled with hatred. "How dare that bitch Lillian do this! Star, you saved Mr. Frane's life. The Price Family and the Frane Family have such a close relationship. How dare a divorced woman like Lillian deceive Mr. Frane and Lyra and humiliate you!"
Star smiled bitterly. "Lillian grew up in the Frane Mansion. It's not surprising the servants listen to her. Besides, Jackson feels guilty for Lillian losing their kid during childbirth, so he compensates her more. We should avoid her for now."
Bianca slammed the bowl of porridge on the table in anger. "Who does Lillian think she is? Why should we tolerate her!"
"What else can we do? Jackson feels guilty for her and won't be with me." Star's tears rolled down her cheeks.
Bianca had an idea. Her eyes lit up, and she grabbed Star's hand. "Star, stop crying, it won't help. We need to make Jackson remember your worth and let everyone know you are the woman Jackson should cherish the most!"
Bianca had a clear plan.
She needed to help Star. Once Star was with Jackson, Lillian would lose her backing. Without Jackson, Lillian and Shirley were nothing.
When Star became Jackson's wife, she could easily speak to Jackson on behalf of the Porter Family, and they would be connected to the Frane Family.
Even her father would look at her differently.
"Bianca, what do you mean?" Star pretended not to understand.
She nervously held Bianca's hand. "Don't do anything rash. If you anger your dadagain, it won't be good."
Bianca looked at Star's timid demeanor with disdain, but it only strengthened her resolve.
She thought to herself, 'Star is indeed easily intimidated. Two women from the slums has scared her into inaction. But I'm not easily scared. The pain I endured would be returned tenfold. Star's personality is also beneficial. Once she becomes Jackson's wife, she will listen to whatever I say.'
Bianca held Star's hand. "Don't worry. Wait for my good news."
Star lowered her head, a slight smile on her lips. 'Bianca is a fool, but sometimes fools could do the most unexpected things. She better not disappoint me.'
