Chapter 280 The Morning Kiss
It seemed as if Jackson had been lying beside her for a long time, staring at her like this, just waiting for her to open her eyes and see him.
Lillian was completely stunned. In two years of marriage, this was the first time she woke up to see him as the first thing in the morning.
"Why are you looking at me like that? Have you forgotten me after a night's sleep?" Jackson raised an eyebrow slightly, speaking with a hint of amusement.
Lillian's gaze was so peculiar as if she couldn't believe what she was seeing.
When Lillian heard the familiar voice, she still thought she was dreaming. Perhaps she really hadn't woken up yet.
"Or did I open my eyes the wrong way?" Lillian muttered.
She blinked twice, closed her eyes tightly, and then opened them again. However, the person before her did not disappear. But such things only happened in her dreams.
Lillian raised her hand, wanting to touch Jackson's handsome face, but she was afraid of ruining the beautiful dream, that he would vanish like an illusion. Her hand paused in the air until Jackson lifted his hand, took hers, and placed it on his cheek.
The real, warm touch brought Lillian to full consciousness. It was really him. She remembered now. Jackson had dragged her back from the airport yesterday.
"What are you talking about? Have you slept yourself silly? Or are you just hungry?" Jackson asked as he squeezed Lillian's hand and then reached up to tousle her hair, his voice clear and smiling.
Lillian blushed a little, her eyelashes fluttering. She asked, "Did you sleep here all night?"
"Where else would I be?" Jackson retorted, his tone so assured with justice.
Lillian was puzzled and asked, "What do you mean 'where else would I be'? You never used to hold me while sleeping. Now that we're divorced, you..."
Before Lillian could finish her sentence, Jackson leaned in and kissed her. Lillian's eyes widened. Did he have an obsession with cleanliness? She hadn't brushed her teeth since last night.
She was embarrassed and annoyed, pushing him away forcefully. Jackson seemed to have only intended to give her a simple good morning kiss. He didn't linger and released her quickly.
He pinched Lillian's cheek and said, "In the past, as a husband, I was indeed negligent. So, from now on, I need to make up for my shortcomings. We've only registered for divorce, not actually divorced. During this time, you need to prepare yourself to wake up in my arms every day."
Lillian felt she understood every word he said, but when put together, she couldn't make sense of it. However, she was drawn to the beautiful picture his words painted. That was also her fantasy of the most beautiful married life. She felt a sense of happiness just by thinking about it.
Lillian stared blankly at Jackson, but he had already gotten out of bed and extended his hand to her, saying, "Cynthia has had breakfast ready for a while. You can't go hungry now. Since you're awake, hurry up and wash up, then come down to eat."
Lillian felt dizzy as if she hadn't fully woken up. She didn't catch the underlying meaning in Jackson's words. She instinctively placed her hand in his palm, letting him pull her out of bed and into the bathroom.
As she stood at the sink, Jackson took a toothbrush, squeezed toothpaste onto it, and handed it to her. Lillian took it slowly, feeling as if she had returned to her childhood.
There was a time when she was growing up and always felt sleepy. Sometimes, even when the alarm rang, she would stay in bed, almost being late. Jackson would pull her out of bed, just like now, helping her squeeze toothpaste, impatiently ruffling her hair, and teasing her with a mischievous smile. "If you get punished for being late, don't come crying to me."
"Why are you frozen there? Do I have to brush your teeth for you?" Jackson asked.
When he saw Lillian standing there dumbly and holding the toothbrush without moving, he reached out as if he really would brush her teeth for her.
Lillian snapped out of her daze, quickly turning her head and hastily shoving the toothbrush into her mouth.
