Chapter 770
"Sorry, I took my anger out on you. Let's take some time to cool off." Lillian lowered her head, pursed her lips slightly, then looked up at the unusually silent Jackson and spoke.
Her voice was tense, her face a bit pale, and her bright eyes seemed to be tinged with melancholy and confusion.
Jackson was lost in reflection, thinking about his past actions, and his heart was filled with endless regret.
However, when he came back to his senses, what he heard was Lillian's almost cold words.
And her hand that he had tightly clasped was slowly pulling away.
In an instant, Jackson felt as if he had been thrown into an icy wilderness, coldness spreading through his limbs, while a burning anger ignited in his chest.
Jackson's handsome face suddenly turned cold and stern, staring at the Lillian he both loved and hated.
"What do you mean by 'cool off'?" Jackson's voice was extremely calm.
So calm that it even carried a hint of a cool smile.
Lillian's fingers were hurting from Jackson's large, hard knuckles. She frowned, feeling a bit panicked.
"It means exactly what it says."
Jackson's jawline tightened. Exactly what it says?
But they had just started over, and now she suddenly wanted to cool off. Wasn't that like hitting the pause button when he was at his most excited?
Even a robot would have trouble stopping suddenly and would fall over.
"Don't overthink it. I just feel that in such a short time, we keep thinking about bad things and memories, our emotions are fluctuating. Maybe we're not ready to start over..."
Lillian tried to explain, to soothe Jackson's obviously angry emotions. But under Jackson's increasingly cold and icy expression, Lillian's voice gradually faded away.
Her words increasingly sounded like she was regretting it.
The atmosphere was tense. After a moment, Jackson's thin lips let out a mocking laugh, as if mocking himself, or mocking her.
The short laugh abruptly stopped.
Jackson's voice seemed to be squeezed out from his chest, "You really have a lot of nerve!!"
In a minute, she could make him feel like he was floating in the sky, and in the next, she could throw him into the mud.
How dare she? Did she really think he could tolerate everything, that he had no dignity or bottom line in his concessions to her?
Did he have no temper at all?
Jackson's jawline tightened. Facing Lillian's clear yet somewhat panicked and confused eyes, he ultimately said nothing.
Jackson just gently let go of her hand and took a step back. "Fine, as you wish, let's cool off."
With that, Jackson withdrew his gaze, turned around, and strode out, his back exuding a sense of cold determination.
When Lillian tried to pull her hand back, Jackson wouldn't let go.
She didn't struggle anymore, but Jackson suddenly let go gently.
She stood there, feeling the lingering warmth of Jackson's palm on the back of her hand.
But Jackson's figure had already disappeared from her sight.
A sense of grievance and anger surged in Lillian's heart.
She hadn't said much, she had even apologized to him.
But he, despite his earlier nice words, had left her alone again, hadn't he?
Cooling off was the right thing to do. She should hurry and find Shirley.
Lillian clenched her hand and started walking out, but after a few steps, she remembered something and turned back towards the restaurant hall.
Five minutes later, Lillian walked to the roadside, hugging a giant teddy bear.
She had come with Shirley's car, but now Shirley, along with her bag and car keys, was nowhere to be seen.
Lillian had to call a cab to leave. She took out her phone and opened the ride-hailing app.
It was lunchtime rush hour, and there were over thirty people in line ahead of her.
Lillian was considering whether to call the family driver when a Bentley slowly drove up.
And the man in the driver's seat was clearly Miguel.
Lillian's eyes lit up.
Although Miguel and Shirley hadn't hit it off today, Lillian still had a good impression of Miguel and could try to set them up again next time.
Miguel was also Ambrose's friend, so it wasn't unreasonable to ask Miguel for a ride.
Moreover, Miguel was a gentleman and patient. Since he was driving towards her, he must have seen her and intended to give her a ride.
Lillian smiled as she stepped off the sidewalk, hugging the teddy bear.
But the next second, when Miguel met her gaze, he looked as if he had seen a monster.
His eyes darted away, and the Bentley sped off, leaving Lillian in a cloud of exhaust.
Lillian couldn't believe it. She turned to stare in the direction the Bentley had disappeared, and after a moment, she laughed in exasperation.
At that moment, a car horn sounded behind her.
Lillian realized she was blocking the way and stepped back onto the sidewalk, still hugging the teddy bear.
But the car behind her didn't drive past. Instead, she heard a car door close.
She looked up from her phone and turned her head.
Tall and imposing, Jackson had already walked around the front of the car and was now standing in front of her.
Jackson's tie was gone, and the top two buttons of his black shirt were undone. The afternoon sunlight filtered through the leaves, casting shadows on his stern face, giving him a wild and fierce aura.
"Why didn't you leave?" Lillian was a bit startled, her face pale, her eyes filled with surprise and wariness.
Jackson ignored her unnecessary question. He reached out and took the cumbersome teddy bear from her arms.
With her arms free, she could breathe more easily.
The next second, Jackson grabbed her arm and led her off the sidewalk, opened the car door, stuffed the teddy bear inside, and then lifted Lillian and placed her in the back seat.
Lillian hadn't even settled in before she found herself hugging the teddy bear.
Before she could get up, the seat beside her sank.
Jackson had followed her into the car.
He was driving a silver-gray Maybach today, and the back seat was spacious.
But with the large teddy bear and Jackson, Lillian felt like a sandwich, squeezed into a small space.
"Aren't you driving? Didn't you come without a driver...?"
Jackson's presence was overwhelming, the air pressure low.
Panicked, Lillian tried to make conversation, but before she could finish, Jackson's heavy breath silenced her lips.
