Chapter 895

Lillian fell asleep almost immediately after Jackson stepped away. Watching her peaceful yet slightly weary face, Jackson felt a growing sense of regret, knowing they might have to climb some steps once they reached the cemetery.

He drove as smoothly as possible, glancing at her from time to time.

Lillian woke up over an hour later, startled by the faint sound of the seatbelt. She opened her eyes suddenly, looking around in confusion until her gaze met Jackson's warm, gentle eyes.

"Did I wake you? Do you want to sleep a bit more?" Jackson asked with a smile.

Lillian squinted, still a bit groggy. "Are we there yet?" She felt so cozy and didn't want to move at all. She instinctively leaned her head towards Jackson, resting it on his shoulder like a cuddly little animal.

Jackson's smile deepened. He gently tidied her slightly messy hair. "We're here, but your grandpa and the others haven't arrived yet. You can sleep a bit more if you want."

Hearing that Oberon and the rest hadn't arrived yet, Lillian felt a bit relieved but didn't feel like sleeping anymore. After napping on the way, she felt much better.

She opened her eyes and looked at Jackson. "Why aren't they here yet? We left the hotel quite a bit later."

The car was parked at the cemetery entrance, and since it wasn't a special day for visiting, there weren't many cars around. Lillian didn't see the Kelly family's car either.

"Maybe the driver is taking it slow because of their age," Jackson said, raising an eyebrow.

In reality, after leaving the hotel with Lillian in the morning, Jackson had messaged Ambrose on Facebook to let them know they were just heading out.

Lillian could tell Jackson was trying to fool her. She sat up and wrapped her arms around his neck. "No way! What's really going on?"

It definitely wasn't because the Kelly family driver was slow that they arrived before Oberon and the others.

Cornered, Jackson admitted, "I called Grandpa this morning and told him I'd bring you directly."

Lillian was completely surprised. She motioned for Jackson to raise the reclined seat and sat up. "You told Grandpa? Isn't that like walking into a trap, making decisions without consulting him first?"

Seeing her slightly panicked expression, Jackson kissed her lips and said, "Making decisions without consulting is better than hiding it and sneaking you away, right?"

Lillian thought for a moment and realized he was right. She blinked. "So, did Grandpa agree to let you bring me and also to visit Mom together?"Before Jackson could answer, a strange sound echoed in the car. Lillian didn't realize what it was at first until it happened again. She looked down, covering her stomach, feeling a bit embarrassed.

"Sounds like someone's hungry," Jackson said, chuckling at her blushing face.

He reached into the back seat, grabbed a thermos, and opened it. "Yeah, Grandpa said it was fine for me to bring you."

Lillian was speechless. So that's why he wasn't in a hurry this morning and didn't tell her. She had been worried about Oberon finding out and getting angry. He must have done it on purpose! Did he find her panic amusing?

Before she could get upset, the familiar aroma from the thermos filled the car, making her mouth water instantly.

"It's been kept warm, but the texture might not be great. Just have a little to fill your stomach, and I'll take you for something better later," Jackson said, serving her a small bowl and handing her utensils.

Lillian didn't care about anything else. She took a sip of the soup and looked at Jackson. "Did you not sleep last night? Where did you make this?"

The taste was so familiar. She realized it was Jackson's cooking. When she woke up in his arms this morning, she thought he had just woken up too. But he mentioned calling Oberon and now this familiar-tasting soup. Clearly, Jackson had gotten up early to make breakfast for her.

"I slept a bit. Eat up," Jackson said, gazing at her without elaborating.

He had woken up around five in the morning, not wanting to disturb her. He went to the hotel kitchen to make the soup, planning to wake her for breakfast before taking her back to the Kelly family. But seeing her sleep so soundly, he couldn't bring himself to wake her, especially after their late night.

That's why he called Oberon. He never intended to sneak her away without permission. Oberon had scolded him, but didn't refuse his request to bring Lillian along.

"It's delicious, just like I remember," Lillian said, feeling a warm, sweet sensation in her heart. She took a big bite of the noodles, her eyes crinkling with satisfaction.

The noodles had become a bit mushy from sitting too long, but to Lillian, they tasted just as wonderful as she remembered. She recalled the first time Jackson made her a late-night snack; it was these noodles. Back then, she wondered who would be lucky enough to marry such a talented and kind man. Little did she know, she would be the lucky one.
