Chapter 394 Disappointed
Jackson clearly didn't expect Susan to make such a request. His brows furrowed slightly as he said, "Susan, I can't agree to this. I'm married."
"No! I know you and Lillian have already filed for divorce. If it weren't for what happened back then, you wouldn't have married her. You would have waited for Star! Now that you're divorced and Star has been found, this is fate. Promise me!" As Susan spoke, she tightly clasped Adara's hand with Jackson's.
Jackson's brows furrowed deeper, and he instinctively tried to pull his hand away.
Susan's hand was withered and trembling, but she held on so tightly.
Jackson's arm stiffened, and he said softly, "Susan, I'm sorry. But you can rest assured. Even if I don't marry Star, I will always take care of her."
After Jackson finished speaking, he cast a deep glance at Adara.
Adara understood his meaning and quickly said, "Mom, don't worry. I trust Jackson. He will definitely take good care of me! Don't say anything more. Now, hurry into the operating room. I just got back to you, and I hope you can spend more time with me. You will get it through successfully. Dad and I will be waiting outside the operating room."
Jackson signaled the doctor to come forward.
However, Susan suddenly became agitated, grabbing onto Jackson and Adara and refusing to let go. "No! No way! Jackson, promise me, or I won't rest in peace even after I die!"
Susan shouted, and the room was filled with the sound of her heavy breathing.
The medical equipment connected to her body suddenly emitted various warning sounds. Dominic, standing nearby, looked alarmed and quickly stepped forward to comfort her.
The doctor also stepped forward, anxiously saying, "Mrs. Price must undergo surgery immediately! We can't delay any longer."
Susan's life was in danger, but she stubbornly clung to Jackson's hand.
Dominic tried to pry her hand away but failed. He looked at Jackson anxiously, pleading, "Jackson! Just promise her. I'm begging you."
Jackson's voice was hoarse as he leaned down and said, "Alright. Susan, you go ahead with the surgery."
His voice wasn't loud, and the room was noisy.
However, Lillian felt as if that answer echoed right in her ear.
It was as if an invisible hand gripped her heart tightly, making it hard for her to breathe.
She wanted to escape, but she couldn't move her legs, feeling like they were filled with lead.
Lillian thought, 'Jackson actually agreed with Susan to marry Star!'
Even though Lillian knew Jackson might just be placating Susan, as his wife, she still felt very uneasy.
Inside the ward, Susan finally let go of Jackson's hand after hearing what she wanted.
Doctors and nurses stepped forward, pushing the mobile bed out of the room.
A nurse stepped back and bumped heavily into Lillian.
Lillian staggered back a couple of steps, her back hitting the door, and she was pushed out of the room.
She clutched her abdomen, steadied herself against the wall, and looked up to see Jackson following the bed, heading towards the operating room.
"Ma'am, are you feeling unwell? Do you need me to call a doctor?"
Lillian stood there in a daze until a stranger's voice woke her up.
She came to her senses and saw a young woman in a hospital gown looking at her with concern.
Lillian snapped out of it, shook her head slowly, and thanked her.
The woman asked worriedly, "Are you sure? You don't look well."
Lillian forced a smile and replied, "No, thank you."
After the young woman left, Lillian turned and slowly walked towards the elevator.
She took Jackson's phone to the nurse's station, asked the nurse to give it to Jackson, and then turned to leave.
