Chapter 639

His voice was all raspy, but Lillian just stayed quiet.

Her silence said it all.

Jackson hung around the bedroom for ages, knowing that once she woke up, this might be the last time they'd be this close.

Harry was waiting outside. When Jackson finally stepped out, Harry trailed him into the study.

"Mr. Frane, you gotta take a break."

Harry looked at Jackson, worry written all over his face.

Jackson might've looked calm, standing tall and walking steady, but Harry could tell he was like a bowstring pulled too tight, ready to snap.

Jackson was already hurt and hadn't caught a wink of sleep.

"Don't sweat it. How's the investigation going?"

Jackson plopped down behind the desk, rubbing his temples.

"Hubert's phone is still MIA, but we got his call records. Last call was from his girlfriend. The timestamp shows he must've snuck out after that call."

Hubert was the guy whose bone marrow matched Jeffrey's.

"Keep digging!"

"Mr. Frane, you think there's more to this? Like, it wasn't just an accidental drowning?" Harry asked.

Jackson thought for a moment. "Hubert was all in after agreeing to donate. Why'd he sneak out that night? He couldn't swim, and if he went out at night, he'd avoid the lake. Yet, he drowned."

"Yeah, it's fishy. If Hubert was offed, then someone's using Mrs. Daisy Frane," Harry nodded.

Jackson's eyes narrowed. "Exactly. If that's the case, then this person knew Daisy secretly did the matching for Taylor and Jeffrey after Lillian's amniocentesis, and that it worked."

Lillian had only done amniocentesis once.

That time, he rushed over and broke the doctor's needle himself, but now he realized the doc had taken two samples.

One sample was stashed away before he got there.

Matching with amniotic fluid was a pain and less accurate than cord blood, so Daisy thought taking more samples would help.

Daisy did the matching on the down-low and claimed she hadn't told anyone it worked.

So how did the mastermind find out?

"When Mrs. Frane had the amniocentesis, Wendy was the one causing a scene. Wendy's been holed up at the Price family's place this whole time."

Harry's voice tightened, frowning. "Mr. Frane, you still think the Price family's involved?"

The sky outside was fully lit, morning light casting on Jackson's face, but it didn't soften his cold, hard features.

His eyes, lit by the sunlight, were bloodshot. "Yesterday, when Lillian went over, the Price family was way too ready!"

They knew Lillian was coming for payback and set a trap for her.

If it was just Daisy and the Price family knew nothing, how could they be so prepared?

"Dig deep into whether Daisy spilled anything about the amniotic fluid matching, and check if the matching doc had any shady contacts."

After Jackson gave the order, Harry turned to leave. He took a few steps, then turned back. "Mr. Frane, you really need to rest. Your eyes are bloodshot."

Harry left, and Jackson closed his eyes for a sec, stood up, lit a cigarette, but didn't rest.

He figured Lillian should be waking up soon. He was so worried about her that he couldn't sleep.

But Lillian didn't wake up.

She stayed in a deep sleep for more than a day and a night, showing no signs of waking up, which was totally not normal.
