Chapter 719

Lillian met Star's provocative gaze and slightly smiled.

She knew Star wanted her to publicly admit that she no longer loved Jackson, which would both hurt Jackson's pride and heart, and displease Lyra.

Although Lillian didn't want Jackson to misunderstand,  she did prefer not to have Star get carried away, let alone upset Lyra.

Lillian chuckled. "Ms. Price, why are you so curious about my love life? Who I love or don't love has nothing to do with you."

Star, not achieving her goal, unwillingly pressed on. "Lillian, why don't you answer the question directly?"

Lillian was getting impatient with her pestering and was about to retort when Jackson frowned and said, "Whether Lillian loves me or not, I know best. It's none of your business. Grandma, let's eat."

Star bit her lip, gave Jackson a wronged look, but didn't dare to say anything more and lowered her head.

Jackson stood up and served a bowl of soup to both Lyra and Lillian.

Out of politeness, Lyra asked Star, "Star, have you had dinner?"

Star was about to say no and inform Lyra that she hadn't had time to eat because she wanted to bring the soup over while it was hot.

But just as she opened her mouth, Jackson said, "Grandma, it's dinner time. Ms. Price must have eaten. Otherwise, it would seem like she's freeloading. Ms. Price wouldn't have such bad manners, would she?"

Star's eyes reddened even more, but she could only smile and nod.

"Lyra, I've eaten. I mainly brought the soup for you. Let me serve you a bowl to try?" Star said as she opened the thermos she brought and smiled while taking a soup bowl.

Although she felt unwelcome, Star still refused to leave.

She stood there just to annoy Lillian.

What if she left and then, through Lyra's matchmaking, Lillian changed her mind again?

Star smiled as she served the soup and placed it in front of Lyra, bowing slightly. "Lyra, please try it. Why don't you let Jackson and Lillian enjoy their meal while I take care of you? Just tell me what you'd like to eat."

Star wore a gentle smile, bowed slightly, and looked quite obedient.

But Lyra felt a bit annoyed, not pleased by Star's flattery, instead finding her too insensitive.

Star insisted on pleasing her on the surface, but she played tricks behind her back.

Originally, considering the relationship between the two families and the hardships Star had endured over the years, Lyra felt some pity for Star and didn't want to be too harsh.

But Star insisted on making things difficult for herself.

Lyra glanced at the soup in front of her. "I've been on medication recently, and there are many things I can't eat. This soup is more suitable for Lillian."

Lyra said as she passed the soup to Lillian, "Lillian, you try it."

Star clenched her fists, her face turning pale with embarrassment.

Lyra's actions made her look like a maid.

Lillian didn't hold back, took a spoon, stirred the soup, tasted it, and said, "The taste is okay, but there's too much sugar, it's too sweet, it might affect the appetite."

She dropped the spoon, and Star was so angry her jaw trembled.

Jackson, however, smiled indulgently at Lillian and said, "Then don't eat it. Aren't you used to spicy food now? Try this dish first."

Lyra looked surprised and turned to Lillian. "Lillian likes spicy food now? No wonder Jackson, who never cares about the menu, suddenly ordered a few spicy dishes."

They chatted lively, as if they had completely forgotten there was another person standing nearby.

Even though she was usually shameless, Star couldn't stay any longer.

She clenched her hands and forced a smile at Lyra. "I won't disturb your meal any longer. I'll wait outside. I have something to discuss with Jackson later."

Without giving Jackson a chance to refuse, Star turned and quickly walked out.

Lyra was in a good mood, her spirits undisturbed.

Whether intentionally making Star wait or genuinely missing Lillian, the meal lasted a full hour.

After dinner, Lillian accompanied Lyra for a walk in the yard.

Star, waiting in the living room, followed them outside, walking beside Jackson.

Jackson didn't want her to keep following, so he slowed down a bit, stopped, and stared at Star.

"Spit it out." Jackson's voice was indifferent, his expression impatient.

Star bit her lip, her left hand forcefully rubbing her right hand's deformed fingers. "Jackson, why have you changed? Just because I called you away the night Lillian had a difficult labor, you blame it all on me? But what did I do wrong? I didn't know that would happen that night. If I had known, I wouldn't have disturbed you even if I was panicking. It's unfair for you to treat me like this!"

Star's sad and aggrieved look made her appear pitiful, tears stubbornly hanging on her lashes, refusing to fall.

But Jackson's eyes showed no trace of emotion. "Star, is Wendy's miscarriage that night really a coincidence?"

Star's heart tightened, her eyes widened in shock, and tears finally fell uncontrollably. "What do you mean? Of course, it was an accident."

"Then why did Wendy say someone tampered with her slippers, causing her to slip in the bathroom?"

Wendy was already in prison, and Star knew Jackson had sent people to see Wendy twice.

But Wendy's kid was still with the Price Family, and they had warned Wendy, so Wendy shouldn't be talking nonsense.

"How could that be? Jackson, you might not know, but Wendy was kept locked up during that time, her mental state was off, always thinking someone was out to get her. She must have been mistaken."

Jackson chuckled. "So, the car accident that killed the maid Lila, who was taking care of Wendy, was also an accident?"

Star was shocked. "What? I didn't know that. Lila was specifically hired to take care of Wendy, and after Wendy gave birth, she terminated her contract with the Price Family."

Star's expression was innocent, without giving anything away.

Jackson sneered, thinking the Price Family had indeed handled Lillian's difficult labor cleanly and efficiently.

Jackson suddenly changed the topic and asked, "Then explain why, the night I went to pick you up, you deliberately ran outside to get soaked in the rain?"

That night, if Star hadn't suddenly developed a high fever, he could have made it back in time for the wedding.

He had always thought Star's high fever was an accident, but after Lillian's incident, he thoroughly investigated again and found that Star had deliberately made herself sick to delay time.
