Chapter 767
Lillian had just called out his name when Jackson suddenly looked up.
There was a hint of vulnerability in his eyes, but his voice was tense and questioning as he spoke in a deep tone.
"If you're not here to explain, then don't say anything. I'm afraid I'll get so angry that I'll want to tie you up and take you home!"
A shadow of gloom passed through Jackson's eyes.
He had spoken out of anger, but he noticed that Lillian, who was held in front of him, had a sudden change in her expression.
Lillian's face turned slightly pale, and she couldn't help but recall unpleasant memories from the past.
Lillian had intended to explain, but now her gaze turned indifferent.
"You've done it before." She curled her lips into a smile, but the smile was like a sharp knife stabbing straight into Jackson's heart.
Jackson's expression changed slightly, and a clear look of panic and unease flashed in his eyes.
Jackson tightened his grip on Lillian's hand and almost frantically spoke.
"No, I just said it without thinking. I didn't mean it, and I won't do it again. Lillian, believe me!"
Jackson felt Lillian's fingers growing cold in his palm, and he gently rubbed them, a look of regret crossing his face.
He really had spoken without thinking. How could he ever do that again?
But it seemed he had said the wrong thing, bringing up bad memories for Lillian and possibly scaring her.
Their relationship had just started to improve, so why did he bring up the past?
Seeing Lillian's slightly dazed expression and her silence, Jackson's regret deepened.
He pulled Lillian's hands to his lips again, his expression sincere as he explained once more.
"I'm really sorry. I didn't control my emotions well. You don't know how jealous and upset I get when I see you having dinner with another man, smiling at him, accepting his roses, and letting him hold your hand. It drives me crazy."
Jackson's voice was slightly hoarse, his emotions difficult to express.
In the past, others envied him for his ability to get whatever he wanted easily.
Even if something was hard to obtain, he had enough patience and confidence, certain that with enough time, he could get it.
But now, with Lillian, Jackson didn't dare to be overconfident, constantly worried.
Seeing the message from Mike, seeing her sitting with another man, talking happily as if they were on a successful date.
He worried that what Mike said was true, that Lillian agreed to give him a chance just to get back at him.
He feared it was all his wishful thinking, and on his way here, he had to use all his self-control not to run red lights.
With a strong pull, Jackson made Lillian fall into his arms.
He tightened his arms, wanting to hold her close, to merge her into his bones and blood, but he was also afraid of hurting her or making her unhappy.
His arms trembled slightly, and Jackson rested his chin on Lillian's shoulder, his voice even more hoarse.
"Lillian, I'm afraid you're just playing with me, that you have other plans in mind, just wanting to make me happy for nothing.
Thinking about that possibility, my rationality shatters like bubbles. I said those words out of anger, please don't be scared, okay?"
Lillian could feel the suppressed worry and tension in Jackson's emotions.
Lillian had indeed thought of the time when he forcibly controlled and imprisoned her.
Back then, Jackson's obsession and refusal to let go made her already wounded heart feel like it was being roasted over a fire, causing further trauma, eventually leading to her postpartum depression.
Thinking about these things, Lillian felt the wounds that had seemed to heal start to ache again.
Now, hearing Jackson's cautious, nervous voice, she felt her nose tingle with sadness.
"You were really too much back then. I really hated you and never wanted to forgive you."
Hearing her aggrieved accusations, Jackson's heart tightened with pain.
The look of heartache and regret on his handsome face pressed against Lillian's shoulder deepened.
If he could, he would go back in time and beat up his stubborn, foolish self.
He had wanted to protect and take care of Lillian, but he was always the one who hurt her the most.
Jackson held Lillian's hand, his large hand enveloping her small fist, pulling it to his chest and making her hit him several times, speaking softly.
"I know, it was all my fault. Even Grandma advised me to let go, but with Taylor gone, you were determined to leave, not wanting to see me. I was so afraid that if I let go, I would never find you again, that I would lose you forever.
"I desperately wanted to go back to the time when you relied on me, thinking that if I stayed by your side day and night, taking care of you, we could go back to the way things were." Jackson confessed and apologized in a low voice.
He looked up at her slightly red eyes, speaking seriously and solemnly. "Lillian, I really won't do anything against your will anymore. I'll respect your wishes. Please believe me, okay? I really spoke without thinking just now, and I didn't mean it. If I ever restrict your freedom again, let me..."
Jackson, afraid she still had psychological shadows, tirelessly explained and emphasized to her.
The care and caution in his deep eyes were easily felt.
As he spoke, worried she still didn't believe him, he even raised his right hand, wanting to swear.
Before he could finish, Lillian placed her hand on Jackson's thin lips, speaking with a hint of annoyance. "Alright, stop it. I didn't say I didn't believe you. Swearing, how childish are you?"
Her fingers, warm and soft, lightly pressed against his lips, like petals falling.
But it felt like an electric current, carrying immense power, making Jackson shudder, speechless and stunned.
He could feel his heart pounding uncontrollably in his chest.
Jackson's deep eyes seemed to ignite with two flames, growing hotter and brighter.
Lillian, feeling his intense, focused gaze, blushed. She instinctively wanted to withdraw her hand, but Jackson suddenly grabbed her wrist.
His thin lips curved into a joyful, gentle smile, and a low laugh escaped his lips.
The breath and warmth brushed against Lillian's fingertips, making her ears turn red.
"What are you laughing at!"
Hearing her slightly embarrassed and annoyed voice, Jackson stopped laughing. He gently kissed Lillian's fingertips a few more times before intertwining their fingers, holding her hand tightly, and raising his eyebrows slightly.
"Lillian, do you feel sorry for me, not wanting me to make any serious vows?"
Lillian's heart raced, feeling like her little thoughts and emotions were completely seen through by him.
She pretended to be calm, not wanting him to be so smug, about to retort when Jackson suddenly rested his head on her shoulder, speaking hoarsely.
"Lillian, don't argue. Give me a little sense of security."
Jackson tilted his head slightly, rubbing against her slender, soft neck, whispering in her ear, almost pleading. "Don't make me so anxious."
