Chapter 769
"Was it you who tipped off Gray?"
Jackson appeared, and Shirley was taken away by Gray. Lillian now looked at Jackson with immense suspicion.
Jackson clicked his tongue, raised his hand, and flicked Lillian's forehead.
"Are you out of your mind? If I knew it was Shirley on a blind date, why would I be in such a hurry just now?"
Right, Jackson didn't even know Shirley was here, so how could he tip off Gray?
Lillian felt her thoughts were getting muddled in her anxiety.
"Sorry..." She instinctively frowned and said.
However, before she finished speaking, the light in front of her dimmed, and a gentle breeze brushed past.
It was Jackson leaning in close for a moment, causing Lillian to instinctively close her eyes. He placed a tender kiss on her lips.
Jackson straightened up, and Lillian snapped out of her shock from the stolen kiss.
She glared at Jackson in annoyance. At a time like this, he still kissed her!
Jackson, however, had a slightly triumphant smile on his handsome face. "A kiss of apology to me."
Lillian wanted to roll her eyes. He had too many reasons for kissing.
"Don't worry, even if Gray took Shirley away, he wouldn't do anything to her. It's just a matter between the couple. Why are you so anxious?"
Jackson, afraid Lillian would get angry, suppressed his urge to kiss her again and tried to comfort her.
Lillian's brows still didn't relax. "But what if it wasn't Gray who took Shirley?"
Actually, Jackson was right. No matter how bad Gray was, he wouldn't resort to violence against women. Otherwise, Jackson wouldn't have been friends with him for so long.
If Shirley was taken by Gray, it was fine, at least she wasn't in danger.
But what if she wasn't?
Lillian hadn't forgotten that they had just made an enemy of Bianca, who seemed like a petty, vengeful, and ruthless woman.
Anyone who could hang out with Star wouldn't be a good person.
"It's broad daylight, and this restaurant is in a busy area. Even if someone wanted revenge, they wouldn't choose this place. Don't worry."
Jackson rubbed Lillian's head. Looking at her anxious expression, he couldn't help but wonder if she would be just as worried and uneasy if he were in danger.
Lillian didn't notice Jackson's jealousy. She speculated.
"Could it be that Mike also saw Shirley and sent a photo to Gray? I'll ask him."
Lillian said as she picked up her phone, intending to call Mike.
Jackson had already taken her phone away. "Don't call. I'll take you to check the surveillance footage. It might be faster."
Lillian nodded. With Jackson around, there was no need to worry about the restaurant brushing them off and not letting them check the surveillance footage.
Sure enough, Jackson made a call.
When he took Lillian to the surveillance room, not only were they served tea, but the footage of Lillian and her friends entering the restaurant had already been pulled up.
In the surveillance footage, Shirley walked into the restroom. Within five minutes, she came out, tidying her hair.
Then, near the hall, a private room door suddenly opened, and a large male hand and arm reached out, quickly pulling Shirley inside.
Lillian gasped slightly, and Jackson asked the manager beside him in a deep voice, "Who was in that private room? Are they still here?"
"Mr. Frane, it seems that private room was booked by a film crew. They left about ten minutes ago. There were quite a few people. I'll need to confirm who exactly was there."
The manager was about to turn away when Jackson asked. "Is Gray here?"
"Yes, yes, Mr. Flores seemed to be holding a woman when he left."
Jackson looked at Lillian beside him, raised an eyebrow, and asked. "Do you still want to watch the surveillance footage?"
It was clear that Shirley was indeed taken away by Gray.
Lillian nodded. "Yes, I want to watch it."
She needed to see Shirley's situation with her own eyes to be completely reassured.
Jackson signaled, and the manager quickly had the footage moved forward.
Sure enough, about ten minutes later, Gray came out of the private room with two assistants, and a petite figure was wrapped in his coat.
But Shirley seemed to be drunk, leaning entirely on Gray, her steps unsteady, supported by Gray.
After a few steps, she started to slip, and Gray bent down to pick her up, striding away.
They clearly didn't take the route through the hall, so Lillian hadn't seen them.
Lillian looked at the manager. "Is there another door?"
The manager nodded. "Yes, there's a back door, and there's a parking lot behind it."
Leaving the surveillance room, Lillian thought about Shirley's state in the footage and said to Jackson.
"Do you know where Gray took Shirley? I need to find her."
Jackson sighed. "Lillian, they might not want to be disturbed. You haven't eaten yet, and the teddy bear is still waiting for us. Let's go eat first."
Jackson held Lillian's hand, pulling her towards the hall.
Lillian pulled back on Jackson's hand. "What couple? Shirley has already broken up with Gray!"
Could Gray have drugged Shirley?
The more Lillian thought about it, the more likely it seemed. Shirley could hold her liquor reasonably well. How could she come out so weak after just a short while?
Thinking about the heavy thud she heard when she called Gray, Lillian became even more worried.
"Couples breaking up and getting back together isn't unusual. Gray doesn't want to break up. Shirley might just be acting out for a few days. They'll make up eventually. It's not good for you to interfere too much."
Jackson rubbed Lillian's small hand. "Be good. Having a meal with me is more important."
They hadn't had a meal alone together in a long time.
Even if it was just a Mexican meal, Jackson was looking forward to it.
He had been subconsciously adjusting his taste preferences recently, trying to get used to spicy food.
It was starting to work. He was ready to prove his efforts with a Mexican meal, to show Lillian that he could change for her.
It wasn't just Ambrose who could eat spicy food with her.
Lillian, however, was dissatisfied with Jackson's words. "Acting out for a few days? Do you men think we women don't deserve to have our own thoughts? That we can't really want to break up for good?
As long as you men don't let go, it doesn't matter if we break up or divorce. We'll come back eventually? Everything is under your control."
Jackson's sense of superiority and indifference in his words inexplicably touched a nerve in Lillian.
As she spoke, her face turned cold.
Jackson was stunned. He hadn't expected his casual words to touch a sore spot for Lillian.
He remembered when Lillian first mentioned divorce, he didn't take it seriously, thinking she was just acting out.
For a long time, he didn't take Lillian's feelings seriously, causing a growing rift between them.
Jackson's lips tightened, and he held Lillian's hand tighter, wanting to hold her more firmly.
Jackson suddenly fell silent, gripping her hand so tightly it hurt.
Was he angry, thinking she was being unreasonable again?
Lillian thought bitterly. Maybe this was why it was so hard to reconcile after a breakup. The cracks were there, and they would be touched inadvertently.
For both of them, it was pain and torment.
Lillian suddenly felt confused and hesitant, questioning whether she had been too hasty in agreeing earlier.
