Chapter 494 Stay

"We found her, so there's no rush to bring her back," Jackson said, trying to keep his emotions in check.

Harry couldn't understand why Jackson was hesitating. He'd seen Jackson's struggle over the past two months—insomnia, depression, weight loss. Jackson barely spoke unless it was work-related. Harry worried that if they didn't find Lillian soon, Jackson might break.

Now, they'd finally found her. She was in the same room with Ambrose, who had been after her. Knowing Jackson, he should've already barged in, gun drawn, to get Lillian out. Instead, Jackson instructed Harry to avoid alerting anyone and find a place to stay, leaving one to wonder if he planned to observe from a distance tonight.

"Mr. Frane..." Harry started, wondering if Jackson was feverish or had misspoken.

"Hurry up," Jackson said, patting Harry's shoulder. Harry nodded and left quickly.

Jackson moved closer to the villa where Lillian was. The low wall didn't block his view. Through the snow, he could see the light from a floor-to-ceiling window. He spotted a vague shadow—Lillian in a bright yellow sweater. His eyes softened as he watched her.

Snow weighed down his shoulders and lashes, yet he stood still. Footsteps crunched in the snow as a figure drew near. It wasn't Harry; it looked like a woman. Jackson hid as she walked in and entered the villa. He sighed in relief, knowing Lillian and Ambrose weren't alone.

Inside, Lillian felt relieved when Seren returned. She felt uneasy around Ambrose, despite his help.

"Seren, look, Mr. Kelly brought us lots of treats. Come try some," Lillian said, waving.

Seren glanced at the desserts but didn't take any. "Mr. Kelly brought them for you. You two talk; I'll go to my room," she said, then turned to leave.

Lillian felt awkward. Seren paused and asked, "The snow's getting heavier. Is Mr. Kelly staying tonight? I can prepare a room."

Ambrose smiled at Lillian. "Is that convenient?"

Lillian couldn't make him leave on such a snowy night, considering Ambrose had set up the arrangement.
