Chapter 210 Registering for Divorce
Lillian felt the silk tie slip through her fingers. She instinctively grasped but caught nothing.
Terry arrived promptly. After receiving the document, Jackson entered the hall with Lillian.
Aiden approached them and said, "Mr. Frane, I've taken a number in advance, and it's ready."
Terry followed, looking incredulously sympathetic towards Aiden.
He hadn't expected to be foolish enough today, and Aiden was even more foolish, which helped him out of the predicament.
With an expressionless face, Jackson took the paper from Aiden and led Lillian to the counter.
Aiden had been reassigned to a remote area by nightfall, but that was another story.
At this moment, a staff member at the divorce counter looked at the outstanding couple, Lillian and Jackson, in front of her with regret.
She thought they were too well-matched. They possessed such good genes, and their baby would be very good-looking.
The staff asked, "Have you both really thought this through? I can call the mediator over there for you..."
Before she could finish her words, Lillian and Jackson almost simultaneously spoke.
"Yes."
"Not necessary."
The staff sighed. Seeing the firmness in both of them, she knew it was not appropriate to say more.
They didn't have children and had signed the divorce papers.
However, as the staff glanced at the divorce papers, she was suddenly furious.
What were with the divorce papers? Not only did the man not give the woman any property, but the woman also had to pay the man five million in compensation.
The staff's gaze toward Jackson suddenly lost its admiration and regret, turning into disdain and sharpness.
Then she asked Lillian, "Ms. Young, did you really sign the papers voluntarily?"
Lillian nodded. "Yes, it was voluntary."
The staff didn't believe her, so she continued, "Don't be afraid. If he threatened or coerced you, you can speak up."
Jackson's handsome face turned sullen, and Lillian, who was a bit amused and helpless, waved her hand quickly. "No, really not."
No?
The staff suddenly realized. She couldn't believe that such a powerful man would actually take a large sum of money from a woman and leave with it after the divorce.
He was so shameless.
The staff's attitude changed drastically, and she immediately processed the paperwork for the two, adding, "There is a thirty-day cooling-off period. During this time, either party can withdraw the divorce application. After thirty days, you can come to collect the divorce decree,” the staff explained the process clearly and handed back the documents.
Lillian asked, "I'll be leaving the country in a couple of days. Do I need to come in person to collect the divorce decree, or can my friend do it on my behalf?"
As she finished her question, Jackson became more indifferent.
He looked down at her and said through gritted teeth, "Lillian, are you so casual about divorce?"
Lillian felt a bit guilty. She had actually checked online and found out that the divorce decree had to be collected in person.
On one hand, she would already be abroad by then, and coming back would be too much trouble.
On the other hand, she was also afraid that by then, her pregnancy would be obvious, and Jackson would find out.
Thus, she asked the question.
However, the staff shook her head and replied, "After the cooling-off period, it must be collected in person. No one else can do it."
Lillian was somewhat disappointed and nodded.
The staff then suddenly advised Lillian, "Ms. Young, you should be more vigilant when choosing a husband next time. Don't just look at appearances."
This man spent a woman's money and had such an attitude. His behavior was so bad.
Lillian fell silent.
Jackson sneered, then turned and left first, his departing figure making people feel fear.
Lillian awkwardly smiled and explained, "Thank you. Actually, I don't want anything, and he's not the kind of man who deceives women for money like you think. Please don't misunderstand him."
Even after divorce, she didn't want Jackson to be looked down upon.
She turned and hurried to catch up with him.
The staff stared at their backs, thinking that they were truly a strange couple.
Could it be that the woman had an affair?
Lillian felt responsible for Jackson being looked down upon by the staff and felt a bit guilty, so she caught up with him.
She said, "Jackson, don't be upset. I've explained this to that staff. I..."
But before she could finish speaking, she saw Daisy and Wendy approaching.
