Chapter 823

As soon as Logan entered the Peace Mansion, he was wide awake.

He lay on Jackson's shoulder, his big eyes curiously scanning the unfamiliar surroundings. Lillian had been worried that Logan might cry in this new environment, but he seemed quite happy.

Lillian asked Jackson, "Do you visit the Price Mansion often to see the kids? Logan seems very familiar with you."

Jackson didn't want her to misunderstand, so he quickly clarified, "Not at all. While you were away from Miracalia, I didn't visit the Price Mansion even once. Star called a few times, saying Logan was sick, so I went to see him twice, but it was at the hospital, and Terry was with me each time. I only stayed long enough to check on Logan and then left. You can ask Terry."

Lillian had asked casually, surprised by Logan's reaction. She hadn't expected Jackson to explain so thoroughly, as if he were afraid she might get upset.

Lillian glanced at him with a half-smile. "Terry is your spokesperson. Do you think I'd believe him?"

Jackson frowned slightly, trying to figure out how to convince Lillian, but then he noticed the teasing look in her eyes. Realizing she was deliberately trying to provoke him, Jackson felt both helpless and amused.

He placed Logan on the couch and said, "There was one time at the hospital when Star... never mind, let's not talk about it. You play with Logan for a bit, I'll get you a glass of water."

Jackson didn't finish his sentence and turned to walk towards the dining room. Just as he took a step, he felt a tug on his shirt. He turned around and saw Lillian's small hand tightly gripping his clothes.

Jackson's lips curved into a barely restrained smile. He turned back, looking down at Lillian with feigned confusion. "What's wrong?"

Lillian's face showed a hint of concealed indifference. She let go of Jackson's shirt, grabbed a pillow, and started playing hide-and-seek with Logan, casually asking, "Why didn't you finish what you were saying?"

Jackson didn't respond. Lillian waited for a moment, then turned to look at him. When she met Jackson's teasing, deep gaze, her cheeks warmed, realizing she had fallen for his trick.

Damn it, boyfriends are often not cute at all. Not cute at all.

"Lillian, you look pretty cute when you're jealous," Jackson said with a slight smile.

Lillian gritted her teeth and, unable to bear it, threw the pillow at Jackson. "Is teasing me that fun?"

Jackson caught the pillow and tossed it back to Lillian, laughing. "What could I possibly have with Star? Ever since I read those books Grandpa gave me, I haven't paid her any attention. Even when I meet her, Terry is always with me. Why are you so worried?"

Lillian caught the pillow, feeling increasingly annoyed by Jackson's teasing. She threw the pillow at him again. "How dare you say that? Grandpa said those books were wasted on you. If I had known you were going to hurt us, I would have had them taken back and burned. You don't deserve them as a gift."

Jackson caught the pillow, looking a bit aggrieved. "Why don't I deserve them? Have Grandpa come to Miracalia and evaluate me again. This time, I'll definitely make him proud."

Jackson tossed the pillow back to Lillian, but before she could catch it, Logan, lying on the couch, started laughing and kicking his little legs, thinking Lillian and Jackson were playing a game.

Logan's innocent laughter immediately caught Lillian and Jackson's attention. They stopped arguing, and Lillian picked up the pillow and lay beside Logan, poking his little face. "Is it funny? That guy is a big meanie. Logan, hurry up and grow up so you can help me teach him a lesson, okay?"

Logan waved his arms and legs in response, though it was unclear if he understood Lillian's words. Lillian laughed, holding Logan's little hand and kissing it. Logan laughed even louder, and the Peace Mansion, usually quiet, suddenly felt lively and warm.

Jackson stood with one hand in his pocket, watching Lillian and Logan play. His hand tightened in his pocket, his eyes stormy. This scene should have belonged to their family, but Taylor...

Jackson's eyes turned cold. He believed that no matter how difficult it was to find evidence, he would eventually succeed and avenge their child, making the culprit pay.

After playing with Logan for a while, Terry arrived, bringing a lot of children's items and placing them on the living room couch. Lillian stood up and said, "Perfect timing, Terry. Can you take me home?"

She reached for her bag, but Terry hesitated, glancing at Jackson, who gave him a cold look. Terry quickly pointed outside. "But Mrs. Frane, it looks like the weather is changing. It's going to rain."

Lillian looked outside. The night was dark, and the trees swayed ominously against the floor-to-ceiling windows. But...

Lillian raised an eyebrow. "It doesn't look like it's going to rain anytime soon. Terry, are you afraid of driving in the rain? I can drive."

Lillian didn't want to stay at the Peace Mansion. Although she had accidentally fallen asleep here during the day and rested in the master bedroom for a long time, nighttime was different. Plus, she felt that her relationship with Jackson was progressing too quickly. She wasn't ready to get back together with him so easily.

Terry looked troubled. "It's not that. I can drive, but I have a date arranged, and I'm running late. Mrs. Frane, I'm not getting any younger, and I can't afford to delay. This past year, work has been stressful, and my hairline is receding. If I don't find someone to marry soon, I might be single forever. I really like this girl."

Terry rambled on, pushing his hair back dramatically. Lillian couldn't see any issue with his hairline, but she felt guilty for potentially ruining his chance at love.

Lillian nodded. "Alright, I won't trouble you, Terry. I'll..."

Before she could finish, Terry said, "Great!" and disappeared out the door like a gust of wind.

Lillian, still holding her bag, looked at Jackson. Jackson walked to the couch, picked up Logan, and grabbed a bottle, looking every bit the doting dad, clearly not planning to drive her.

Lillian considered calling the Kelly family driver or taking Jackson's car herself, but then Jackson said, "It might thunder later."

Lillian immediately abandoned the idea of driving herself. She was afraid of losing control if it thundered while she was alone in the car.

That left calling a driver. As she reached for her phone, Jackson added, "And Lillian, I really don't know how to take care of a baby. If you leave, I can't keep Logan here tonight. Why don't we take Logan back to the Price Mansion together, and then I'll drive you to Mystic Meadows?"

Jackson stood up, holding Logan and looking for his blanket, ready to pack him up. Logan, perhaps understanding, started crying, reaching out to Lillian for comfort.

Seeing Logan cry, Lillian's heart ached. She instinctively took him into her arms, feeling conflicted. Star was likely still at the police station, and the Price family couldn't find a nanny quickly. Jackson would need time to arrange someone, and Lillian worried that Star might take out her frustrations on Logan.

These thoughts made it impossible for Lillian to agree. Seeing Jackson packing Logan's things, Lillian gritted her teeth and threw her bag back on the couch. "Fine, I won't leave. I'll stay and take care of Logan tonight."
