Chapter 399 Promise Her A Wedding
Jackson wrapped his arm around Lillian's waist, pulling her close. "The surgery went well, but Susan's still in the ICU."
Lillian let out a relieved sigh. "That's good. But look at you, your eyes are all bloodshot. You need some rest."
If Susan hadn't made it, Jackson would have been devastated. Even for an ordinary elder, Lillian didn't want anything bad to happen.
Lillian urged Jackson to rest, and when he kept staring at her, she placed her hand over his eyes.
Jackson smiled softly, pulling her hand away, his deep eyes locked on hers. "Did you hear everything yesterday?"
Lillian was stunned slightly. She thought he would pretend it was all in the past.
Her eyelashes fluttered as she said softly, "Yeah. I saw your phone in the car and worried you might miss something important, so I brought it up and overheard."
"Were you angry?" Jackson asked.
Lillian shook her head. "No. If I were angry, I wouldn't have come back. I get it. You had no choice."
Jackson's eyes narrowed slightly. "Then why did you hang up in a hurry without listening to my explanation?"
Lillian felt cornered by his questioning.
She sighed, hugging Jackson's waist and burying her face in his chest. "Rationally, I understand. But emotionally, it's hard. What woman wouldn't feel uncomfortable hearing her husband agree to marry another woman? Don't I have the right to feel upset?"
She knew Jackson felt guilty towards the Price family and understood his choice in that situation.
So, she couldn't be angry with him.
She just wished the person she loved would prioritize her feelings no matter the situation.
However, clearly, she wasn't that important in his heart.
Moreover, hearing Jackson agree to Susan's request made Lillian realize one thing.
Jackson carried a burden of guilt towards the Price family. If she loved him, she had to love all of him and accept his past, including this guilt.
This also meant that in future matters involving Star and the Price family, Lillian might never be his first choice.
Lillian wasn't ready to accept this yet, so she didn't want to deal with him at that moment. She couldn't control her disappointment and sadness, feeling very bitter inside.
But even understanding all this, she still couldn't stop loving Jackson.
So, she spent the whole night alone absorbing these emotions.
Even now, seeing how exhausted he looked, she couldn't bring herself to argue.
Jackson suddenly flipped over, pinning Lillian beneath him.
He propped himself up on his arms, not pressing down on her but still making her feel the weight of his presence.
He gazed at her, his deep eyes sparkling. "Husband? Since you acknowledge me as your husband, why don't you call me honey?"
Jackson had called Lillian Honey earlier, and she hadn't responded.
Jackson chuckled to himself, 'Is she still saying she wasn't angry?'
Lillian's cheeks flushed under his gaze. Embarrassed and annoyed, she pushed him hard and said, "You're still in your probation period. I'm not calling you honey yet."
Jackson, mindful of the baby in her belly, let her push him away easily.
Lillian sat up, intending to get out of bed, but Jackson wrapped his arm around her waist again, pulling her back into his embrace.
He kissed her forehead and said softly, "I'm sorry for making you feel wronged yesterday."
Lillian's eyes welled up at his words.
She pressed against his chest and asked, "What are you going to do about this when Susan wakes up?"
Jackson pinched Lillian's cheek and replied, "Don't worry. When Susan wakes up, I'll explain everything to her."
Lillian looked up at him and asked, "How will you explain it?"
She had seen the situation clearly yesterday. Susan was very stubborn and wouldn't be easily persuaded by Jackson.
Jackson raised an eyebrow and commented, "There's another way, but it requires your cooperation. I wonder if you are willing to help."
Lillian was surprised. "What way?"
Jackson didn't say anything. He suddenly turned over and opened the bedside drawer.
Lillian didn't know what he was doing.
Jackson took her hand, and Lillian felt a cool sensation on her finger. She looked down to see Jackson putting the wedding ring back on her finger.
Jackson smiled. "You'll come with me to see Susan and show her how much we love each other. She'll naturally give up."
Lillian doubted he was using this as another manipulation tactic.
She stared at the wedding ring back on her finger, feeling conflicted. "Will Susan really understand? What if it doesn't work?"
Jackson held Lillian's hand, bringing it to his lips and placing a gentle kiss on the wedding ring. He looked at Lillian and said gently, "Then it means we need a grand wedding."
Lillian's eyes widened in disbelief.
She wondered if she had misheard it.
She pondered, 'Did Jackson just say wedding? Is he going to give me a wedding that belongs to him and me?'
