Chapter 464 Relieved

Jackson got hurt by a falling billboard frame, leaving wounds on his shoulder and back. The doctor bandaged him up and left some ointment for the bruises.

"Mrs. Frane, apply this to Mr. Frane's bruises and rub it in. I have other patients to see, so I'll be off now."

The doctor left before Lillian could say anything.

Jackson looked at Lillian, who didn't hesitate and stepped forward with the ointment.

Standing behind Jackson, she twisted open the tube and began applying the ointment to his back. The sight of his inflamed, bruised back was quite alarming.

As her fingers touched his skin, Jackson tensed up, making Lillian pause.

"Does it hurt? Haven't you used ointment before?"

Jackson relaxed his stiff shoulders slightly and turned to look at her with a faint smile. "You never cared for me before," he said with a hint of grievance.

Lillian's fingers trembled slightly, and she coldly replied, "You brought this on yourself! If you had listened to Grandma, none of this would have happened!"

Jackson suddenly turned and grabbed her wrist.

Looking up at her, he said, "Lilian, you still care about me, don't you?"

Lillian didn't answer. Her lashes fluttered briefly as she bit her lip and replied, "You just saved me. It's only right that I help you with the ointment. The doctor said it might sting a bit when I rub it in, so bear with it."

She pulled her hand free and motioned for him to turn around.

Jackson noticed the flustered look in her eyes, a trace of amusement flickering in his gaze.

Jackson turned around, straightening his back. "Thank you, Mrs. Frane."

Lillian pressed one hand on his shoulder and began to rub the bruised areas with the other.

The ointment felt cool at first, but as she rubbed it in, it gradually became hot.

Jackson didn't feel any pain; instead, he felt a deep warmth in his heart.

He sensed the hidden concern in Lillian's words; she was clearly being contradictory.

She still had feelings for him.

If she didn't care, she would have left immediately.

Jackson's frantic heart began to settle, and the smile on his face deepened.

"Lillian, can we start over?"

Lillian paused slightly behind him, remaining silent.

As Jackson was about to turn his head to look at her, she quickly said, "I don't want to talk about this right now. Can you stop pressuring me?"

Her tone turned cold, but Jackson's expression relaxed.

It was normal for her to still be angry; she wasn't as heartbroken as before.

"Okay, I won't pressure you. We'll take it slow. When you forgive me, we'll have an even grander wedding to cover up these bad memories."

Lillian pressed her lips tightly together, her eyes filled with sarcasm.

Covering bad memories with good ones was just self-deception.

She carefully applied the ointment, but in her heart, she felt relieved.

She thought, 'Fortunately, Jackson has used this tactic on me before.

'Last time, when he was stabbed, I cried a lot and fell into his trap again.

'As a result, I was left heartbroken. How can I be easily deceived by him again?'
