Chapter 431
"Lillian, you're so silly. How did you not think of it?" Lillian chided herself.
She felt like she was sinking into a deep, lonely ocean, cut off from sound and warmth, until Shirley called her name loudly.
Lillian snapped out of her daze and instinctively touched her face.
She thought she'd be crying, but her face was dry.
Her eyes burned, and her heart felt hollow.
She realized true despair left you without tears.
"How could she drop the gift?" a guest commented.
"That's so rude," another remarked.
Lillian blinked and saw several guests glaring at her, with Wendy accusing her tearfully.
Lillian stopped Kevin from stepping forward to defend her and smiled.
"Sorry to disturb everyone, but if a guest has bad intentions, shouldn't we avoid treating them politely?" Lillian said nonchalantly.
"How could I have bad intentions?" Wendy tried to explain.
Lillian cut her off, "You're jealous of my relationship with my husband, often fantasizing about being a third wheel. You broke the gift you gave me and now you're blaming it on me?"
Everyone stared at Wendy and started condemning her instead.
Wendy didn't expect Lillian to stay calm and respond gracefully after hearing why Jackson was absent. She was speechless and stunned.
Her face changed, and she quickly left.
As the commotion died down, Lillian closed her eyes slightly.
Seeing her pale face, Kevin thought it was because Jackson was still missing. He said, "Lillian, don't worry. I'll go check if he's arriving soon."
He took out his phone and was about to leave when Lillian stopped him.
Kevin turned back to see Lillian flashing him a weak smile.
"Kevin, there's no need. Please apologize to Grandma and the guests. The wedding is canceled," Lillian said.
She then removed her veil forcefully.
Her golden hair fell over her shoulders, and the pearl tiara crashed to the ground.
The chain snapped, sending pearls scattering like mermaid tears.
Kevin stood in shock as Lillian walked towards the stairs.
"Lillian? What's going on? Let's think of a solution!" Kevin said urgently.
Kevin frowned at Shirley.
Shirley shrugged and sneered, "The groom is absent. Why stop Lillian?"
She was on the verge of breaking down and quickly followed Lillian.
Just then, there was a commotion in the banquet hall.
"What happened?"
"A big scandal! You better see for yourself."
Someone came out of the hall, leading to a flurry of discussions.
Kevin frowned, glanced at Lillian, hesitated for a moment, then turned towards the hall.
The people exiting cast him curious glances, adding to his sense that something unexpected had occurred. Something involving him.
He quickened his pace and saw Gemma walking out anxiously.
"Mom, what's going on inside?" Kevin asked.
"Kevin, where's Lillian? What's with her diary?" Gemma questioned as she grabbed Kevin's arm urgently.
At that moment, a black Maybach pulled up in front of the hotel.
