Chapter 839

Lillian glanced at Anouk with a smirk. "Yeah, yeah, as long as you're happy."

Anouk was fuming inside.

Lillian closed her eyes. "Drive slow, I'm gonna take a nap."

Anouk was livid.

Kenneth's place in Miracalia and Mystic Meadows were on opposite ends of the city, and it was rush hour.

It took over an hour to get there, and Lillian managed to nap in the car.

By the time they arrived at the villa, Lillian looked refreshed, while Anouk had a stormy expression.

Lillian didn't care about Anouk's sour face. She stretched comfortably, pushed open the car door, and said, "Your driving's not bad, I had a good nap. But driving this far every day, you must really love your car to keep doing it. Props to you."

Lillian got out of the car, and Anouk's eyes flashed with anger.

They both entered the villa. Inside, Ruby and Kenneth were chatting on the couch, with two young men sitting nearby.

Seeing them come in, Ruby immediately stood up with a smile. "Lillian, you're here! Come sit, let me introduce you to some people."

Lillian glanced around and realized that Kenneth and Ruby hadn't just invited her over for dinner.

On the couch opposite, Ruby and Kenneth sat two young men.

Both were dressed sharply in suits, one in a silver-gray suit and the other in a light blue casual suit, looking every bit the professionals.

Hearing Ruby's words, both men stood up and looked at Lillian.

Lillian didn't stop walking; she went straight to the couch and sat down without even glancing at them.

She had a pretty good idea of what this family dinner was about.

Ruby noticed Lillian's cold demeanor but didn't show any change in her expression. Kenneth, however, frowned slightly and said, "Lillian, Ruby is talking to you, and the guests are still standing. How can you sit down first? That's rude."

Lillian looked at Kenneth, a slight smile on her lips. "Guests? I thought I was a guest here too."

Kenneth's frown deepened. "What are you talking about? This is your home. You're the one who refuses to come back. Your father and Ruby asked Anouk to bring you back, and you still have this attitude?"

Anouk stepped forward. "Lillian, if you don't want to see me at home, I can leave right now. Don't misunderstand Dad, he misses you every day."

Ruby gently persuaded, "Lillian, sit down. Lillian must be tired from work. Why get angry? It's hard enough to get her to come back."

Ruby nudged Kenneth, who softened his expression slightly. Lillian then spoke lightly, "Do you really want me back?"

Ruby was slightly taken aback and looked at Lillian. "Of course, Lillian. Even though I'm not your biological mother, I'm not Anouk's either. I treat you both the same."

Lillian's lips curled into a smirk. "So, I guess you've got a room ready for me. I'm gonna go take a shower and change."

She stood up and started heading upstairs.

Ruby frowned slightly and quickly stepped forward to stop her. "Lillian, hold on. We're about to eat. And I haven't introduced you to our guests. These are my nephews..."

Ruby pointed to her nephews, but Lillian cut her off. "You didn't prepare a room for me, did you?"

Ruby's smile faltered slightly. The man in the light blue suit quickly stepped forward. "Cousin, how can you misunderstand Aunt Ruby? Of course, she prepared a room for you. But we're about to eat, and then she'll show you to your room. I'm Gage Lawson. I've heard so much about you and have been wanting to meet you. You're as beautiful as they say."

Gage extended his hand to shake Lillian's. When she didn't move, he bent slightly, trying to force a handshake.

Lillian sneered and stepped back. "Who are you calling cousin? My mom was an only child. I don't have any cousins."

Gage looked embarrassed. Kenneth, unable to tolerate it any longer, said sternly, "Lillian, do you have to make everyone uncomfortable to be satisfied?"

Lillian looked at Kenneth, a cold smile on her lips. "So, if I make everyone happy while I'm unhappy, then you're satisfied?"

Kenneth, embarrassed by Lillian's defiance in front of the younger generation, was furious. "No one is making you unhappy. Everyone is trying to please you. What do you have to be unhappy about? Ruby spent all morning in the kitchen for you, and Anouk drove you here. Yet, you're still dissatisfied!"

Lillian found it amusing. She felt there was no reasoning with someone so biased.

No matter what she said, Kenneth would only see how wronged Anouk and Ruby were.

Ruby stood by, trying to calm Kenneth. "Enough, say no more. Lillian already feels distant from us. I just supervised the maids, it wasn't tiring."

Anouk was secretly pleased, hoping Lillian would argue with Kenneth more. It would only make her look more filial and considerate, the perfect daughter.

Anouk suppressed a smile and sat next to Kenneth, holding his arm. "Dad, don't be angry. Lillian didn't mean it. She was probably just groggy from her nap. I should have driven slower to let her sleep more."

Anouk's words only fueled Kenneth's anger. "You had a good nap while making all these guests wait and having Anouk drive you. And you're still unhappy?"

Lillian watched Anouk and Ruby play the good guys, fanning Kenneth's anger. She found it laughable and said, "Speaking of driving, Anouk mentioned that the Porsche outside was a gift from you for her new job. Since you miss me so much, I assume you have a gift for me too. Why don't you give it to me now? Then we can talk about everything else."
