Lillian shot a glance at Anouk, even though Anouk's teasing seemed harmless enough.
Still, it made Lillian super embarrassed, and she could sense some bad vibes.
Lillian bit her lip, thinking about the gossip Jackson had spilled earlier about Ambrose and Anouk. Ambrose was supposed to be Anouk's fiancé—was Anouk jealous or something?
Flora had just yanked Lillian down to sit next to her, all excited and chatty.
Lillian was busy talking to Flora and didn't really notice what was going on around her.
She only knew that Jackson was sitting across from her, staring her down, but after that forced kiss in the car, she really didn't want to deal with him.
Now, Lillian felt a bit uneasy. She didn't want to get caught up in someone else's drama. After a moment of hesitation, she said, "Maybe I should switch seats with Anouk."
Lillian didn't want to ask Ambrose to move.
As she spoke and started to get up, Flora grabbed her right arm.
"Where do you think you're going?"
And Ambrose reached out, pressing down on the back of Lillian's chair.
The chair didn't budge, and with Flora holding her, Lillian plopped back down.
Ambrose turned to Anouk and said, "Anouk, Grandma wants to sit with Lillian, so let's just go with it. Besides..."
Ambrose paused, glancing at Jackson.
"You might not know, but Lillian and Mr. Frane aren't living together anymore."
Anouk looked shocked and asked, "How could that be? Mrs. Frane's baby is due any day now."
Oberon was also visibly surprised, frowning at Jackson, his face darkening a bit.
He had always admired Jackson, a young guy with impressive achievements and skills.
Arguing while Lillian was pregnant? Pregnant women were already in a tough spot. If they were living apart now, Jackson must've done something really bad!
Oberon had always valued his wife and family and couldn't stand irresponsible men.
Flora, still holding Lillian, immediately glared at Jackson.
"I knew it, Oberon, he's bullying Ophelia! Kick him out!"
Flora, all worked up, turned to Oberon.
Oberon patted Flora's hand soothingly and said, "Don't worry, I'll have a good talk with him."
He looked at Jackson and said, "Mr. Frane, don't blame me for being blunt. Even though it's my first time meeting Lillian, I've heard from Ambrose that Lillian saved Anouk and helped Flora today. Just those two things show how gentle, kind, and soft-hearted Lillian is. Mr. Frane, you should appreciate what you have! If Lillian remarries in the future, you'll regret it!"
With Ambrose's words, Jackson became the target of everyone's criticism.
Lillian had just met Flora and Oberon today, but their protection and concern made her feel really warm inside.
Even though all this was because Flora was confused and mistook her.
But Lillian still felt close and grateful.
Jackson's personality was cold, and he had been in a high position for many years, always giving orders, never being taught by others.
Usually, only Lyra could scold him a bit. Lillian worried that Jackson's indifferent attitude would embarrass Flora and Oberon.
She immediately looked at Jackson, not expecting that instead of showing any impatience or indifference, Jackson had a respectful and polite smile on his handsome face, looking as if he was being taught.
