Chapter 264 The Lady Went to the Airport
Jackson's piercing gaze gradually softened.
Wendy, sensing a glimmer of hope, knelt on the bed and pleaded, "I know I've done some irrational things lately. I realize my mistakes now, and I promise to correct them. If you want me to explain things to Lillian, I am ready to cooperate at any time. These past few days, my father has been furious with me and has slapped me several times. Everyone is avoiding him, and no one is willing to provide loans or investments to the Sivan Group. It is truly at a dead end. Mr. Frane, for the sake of the baby in my womb, please give the Sivan Group a way out. I promise to give birth to the baby safely, love and care for him, and raise him well. If you do care so much about the child, you surely wouldn't want him to be born without a mother."
Wendy's face was still swollen from a slap by Lillian, and there were faint marks on the other side, likely from Percy's hand. She appeared genuinely remorseful and pitiful.
Jackson's gaze fell on Wendy's belly, and he nodded, saying in a deep voice, "You'd better remember what you said today. My decision will not change. There will be no additional investment in the Sivan Group. However, I can give it a way out. Whether you can secure investment depends on your luck."
With that, Jackson turned and left.
Wendy clenched her fists tightly, looking up at his cold back with a mix of relief and resentment.
In recent days, the news of Star Group's investment and subsequent withdrawal from the Sivan Group had spread widely. This was confidential information of the Sivan Group and would never have leaked unless Jackson had authorized it. Jackson was letting everyone know that the Sivan family had offended him. Percy had been facing setbacks everywhere. Bank managers and CEOs were avoiding him, let alone providing investments. If Jackson didn't agree, the Sivan Group would be left to face bankruptcy. Moreover, her affair with her lover had been caught by Lillian. Jackson, upon seeing this, would only act more ruthlessly.
However, fortunately, today, she faced the situation head-on. Being treated this way by Lyra and Lillian had stirred Jackson's guilt.
Now that he was willing to let go, even though securing investment would be challenging, the Sivans had a chance to catch their breath.
Wendy wouldn't admit defeat so easily. Once she recovered, she would surely seek revenge on Lillian for today's humiliation!
The next day, Lillian had a flight in the evening. She got up in the morning and went into the kitchen to prepare some delicious food, which she packed into boxes. She then went to the hospital with Shirley. She first visited Jeffrey, brought him homemade cookies and jerky, and bid him farewell.
Jeffrey hugged her, shed rare tears, and finally said, "Lillian, don't worry. I'll listen to you and cooperate with the doctors. Once I get better, I'll ask my dad to send me to Phantom Kingdom to study. I'll protect you."
Lillian patted his soft hair, feeling a bit teary herself. She had indeed found much warmth in the Frane family.
After leaving Jeffrey's room, Lillian visited Max. She gave him a massage and talked to him for a long time.
By the time she and Shirley left the hospital, it was already noon. Shirley had to go to the set in the afternoon. At the hospital entrance, she said goodbye to Lillian. "I was supposed to see you off tonight, but Amelia said she wants to introduce me to Otis Patterson from that sci-fi show today. I don't know if I can make it back in time."
Lillian hugged her and said, "It's a rare opportunity, and you should seize it. I don't need to be seen off. My large luggage has already been sent ahead, and I only have some personal items with me. Besides, I have to come back next month to get the divorce certificate. We'll see each other soon. Just remember to visit Max for me while I'm away."
Reluctantly, Shirley nodded and got into her car.
Meanwhile, at the Frane Group office, Jackson had just finished a video conference. He was reviewing the branch offices' reports while listening to Terry, who stood by his desk, detailing the afternoon's schedule.
Terry said, "You have lunch with Mr. Gilbert from StarTech and a meeting with Mr. Alfonso and Mr. Alvin in the afternoon."
When Jackson didn't hear Terry continue, he looked up and asked, "That's it? The meeting shouldn't take more than an hour, right?"
Terry, who had been observing Jackson secretly, hesitated before speaking, "There were a few more appointments, but they aren't urgent and can be postponed until tomorrow."
"So?" Jackson asked coldly.
Terry bit his lip and continued, "Mr. Frane, Mrs. Frane's flight is at eight tonight. She will be heading to the airport soon. If you leave now, you can still make it. You won't catch up if a bit later."
